TAWAU: A 32-year-old man was killed when his Proton Satria crashed along Jalan Dr Yamamoto around 5am on Sunday. Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the victim was on his way home to Kampung Hilltop from Tawau town when the accident occurred. Initial investigations suggest that the victim was speeding, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The car skidded about 50 meters before slamming into an electricity pole and overturning. 'The impact trapped the man inside the vehicle, requiring rescue efforts by the Tawau Fire and Rescue team, who extricated him through the shattered rear windshield,' Jasmin said in a statement on Sunday. 'Medical officers from Tawau Hospital pronounced him dead at the scene,' he added. Meanwhile, Tawau Fire and Rescue Station Chief Jemishin Ujin said a team was dispatched to the location after receiving an emergency call at 5.13am. The victim was later handed over to the police for further action. The operation concluded at 5.54am after the team confirmed no additional hazards remained at the scene. * Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel(s) for the latest news you don't want to miss. * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
