TAWAU: Police arrested a man suspected of having threatened to stab and burn down his family member's house here around 1am Wednesday. Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the suspect, a 39-year-old unemployed local was arrested following a police report lodged by his younger sibling. 'The victim filed a report at Tawau Police Station at approximately 12.08am on May 7,' he said in a statement. Jasmin said police managed to detain the suspect after locating him on the five-foot way of a shop premises at Jalan Haji Karim. He said, according to the victim's report, the suspect had gone on a rampage at about 3.30pm on May 6 due to dissatisfaction over the amount of money given to him. 'The suspect also issued threats to stab family members in the house while brandishing a knife and later contacted his mother again with threats to set his sibling's house on fire,' he said. Advertisement A background check revealed the suspect has six previous criminal records involving drug abuse, fraud and had previously been wanted by the police under Section 420 of the Penal Code. The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, which carries a penalty of up to seven years' imprisonment, or a fine, or both, upon conviction. Jasmin also advised the public to promptly report any such event of threats or aggressive behaviour, especially in matters concerning personal safety. 'Never take criminal threats lightly, even if they come from a family member, as the safety and lives of all parties must always be prioritised.
