Create Account How do we know this? For starters, those who fancy child pornography and sex with children are barely interrupted from their perverse hobbies. Soft sentences and second, third, fourth, fifth and tenth chances are the norm. Take, say, British Columbia's very own Taylor Dueck. Cops call him a 'dangerous sex offender' and now say he's out of prison and in Kamloops. '(Dueck) represents a serious and imminent risk to persons under the age of 16, including children,' the most recent RCMP notification reads. But someone, somewhere in the system, LOVES Dueck. On Feb. 9, 2024, one of the old softies thought it would be a smashing idea for Dueck, 30, to work with young equestrians — rehab and all, you know, offender-centred therapy. A psychic was not necessary to predict the inevitable. Your noon-hour look at what's happening in Toronto and beyond. Someone thought horseback lessons with kids was a good idea for Tyler Dueck. ABBOTSFORD POLICE In the bathroom of a Kelowna, B.C., equestrian facility, he sexually assaulted an 11-year-old girl. He later pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two years less a day. Toss in some time served, and he's back in town. It emerged that, at the time, he was under court-ordered supervision by a subcontractor from Community Living B.C. The supervisor sat in a car while the sexual assault unfolded. Dueck's 2024 escapade was not preceded by a public warning that the pedophile was about to be sprung on Kelowna. The victim's father — whose name is protected by a publication ban — called the hush-hush approach 'mind-boggling.' It wasn't like the cops didn't want to issue a public warning — they did, but soft-headed bureaucrats torpedoed the idea. Now, a child will have to live with this horror for the rest of her life. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. For anyone familiar with these kinds of outrages, it may have been shocking but not a surprise. Why would anyone in their right mind think releasing Dueck was a grand idea? His criminal history is a dreary catalogue of sexual assaults, sexual assaults with a weapon/threat/bodily harm, and sexual interference of a person under 16. He is a hard-wired pedophile. Taylor Dueck has been charged with sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching and breach of probation. Photo by Handout / Abbotsford Police Even in the far-left B.C. legislature there was outrage. At the time, the then-opposition BC United slammed the NDP government over the case. The government ordered an investigation into how something so outrageous could happen. Dueck on Easy Street was called a 'despicable failure.' And it's not like there haven't been precedents. In 2022, he was denied parole over worries he'd reoffend. Still, he was released at the end of his sentence in 2023. There were also public warnings in 2020 when the powers that be set him loose in the Fraser Valley. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. There was no such warning in 2023, and then he attacked the little girl at the equestrian centre. Cops say there are several conditions for Dueck on probation — there always are. As we've seen in the past, Dueck's twisted compulsions are overwhelming, and we know that a breach is a live-and-let-live matter in this kinda country. RECOMMENDED VIDEO Back in 2023, the owner of the equestrian centre was told that Dueck was 'developmentally delayed.' When she inquired as to the nature of his crimes, she was essentially told to piss off. His privacy rights and all that. The thing about pedophiles like Taylor Dueck is that they don't change. They can't be cured. No amount of hugs and understanding will stop their sick compulsions. A third-year criminology class might be convinced by Dr. Hippie that these losers can be fixed, but reality tells us something else altogether different. bhunter@ @HunterTOSun Olympics Canada Sunshine Girls Ontario Golf

At the time, he was on parole for another previous sexual misconduct conviction. His counsel claimed that Dueck was 'mentally handicapped' and was a failure of the system. Kamloops RCMP issues public notification as sex offender set to be released under house arrest

Social Sharing RCMP in Kamloops, B.C., have released a public notification as a man with a history of sexual offences against children is set to be released on probation. Taylor Dueck pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a person under 16 years of age at an equestrian facility in Kelowna, B.C., on Feb. 9, 2024. Now, he is set to be released into house arrest in Kamloops, and RCMP are warning that the "dangerous sex offender" represents a serious risk to children under 16. Following a prison sentence for the Kelowna assault, Dueck was ordered to be under 24/7 house arrest as part of a three-year probation period, and he will be on the sex offenders' registry for life. Police say that he is forbidden from being in any public areas — including parks, swimming pools, community centres and playgrounds — where kids under 16 are reasonably expected to be present. He is also barred from contacting, or being in the presence of, anyone under 16 years old. "Taylor Dueck will be subject to monitoring in order to ensure compliance with his conditions," reads an RCMP statement. "Anyone who sees or knows of Taylor Dueck violating any of these conditions is asked to call 911 immediately." CBC News has reached out to RCMP to find out when exactly Dueck will be released into house arrest. Furor over lack of previous notification Parole board documents show Dueck has a history of sexual offences against children, and other police forces have released public notifications over his risk of reoffending. Following the sexual assault at the Kelowna equestrian facility last year, there was uproar from politicians in B.C.'s governing and opposition parties over why Kelowna RCMP did not issue a public notification that a high-risk sex offender was living in the area. WATCH | Uproar over lack of public notification: MLA demands accountability after sex offender released into Kelowna without warning 1 year ago Duration 5:02 Renee Merrifield, B.C. United MLA for Kelowna-Mission, said news that a repeat sex offender was released with no public warning and then arrested in Kelowna has traumatized the community. Taylor Dueck was arrested on Feb. 9 on allegations he sexually assaulted a youth at an equestrian school in Kelowna. The details shared by Merrifield have not been proven in court or confirmed by RCMP. Following the assault, then-public safety minister Mike Farnworth ordered an investigation into why the public wasn't notified. In a written statement, the Kelowna RCMP said at the time that it sought a public disclosure order prior to Dueck's release, but "the threshold was not met in this case based on the totality of the circumstances." In a statement issued this January, Public Safety Minister Garry Begg said the Investigation and Standards Office (ISO) found no evidence of systemic issues with B.C. Corrections and policing procedures, but the policy "had not been properly adhered to" in Dueck's case. The ISO is an independent body established by the Corrections Act that provides oversight to B.C. Corrections. The province did not make Begg available for an interview at the time, and, citing privacy concerns, did not clarify what policy was not followed. Recommendations from the ISO investigation include establishing a template for public notifications for police agencies to follow, exploring the feasibility of a public website for such notifications and strengthening language in training materials around the importance of seeking clarity on court-ordered decisions. The ministry said a working group is being established with the goal of having the recommendations fulfilled within the next six months.

Sex offender who sparked outrage in B.C. legislature last year released on probation, again, RCMP warn

'Dangerous sex offender' Taylor Dueck is seen in this photo shared with a public notification about his latest release from prison. (Kamloops RCMP) Police in Kamloops are warning the public about a 'dangerous sex offender' who will be residing in the community. Taylor Dueck – who has been convicted of offences including sexual assault, sexual assault with a weapon/threat/bodily harm and sexual interference of a person under 16 – will be released on probation after completing his latest provincial sentence, Kamloops RCMP said in a public interest notification issued Saturday. Dueck 'represents a serious and imminent risk to persons under the age of 16, including children,' the notification reads. No notification on previous release The 30-year-old was the subject of outrage in the B.C. legislature last year after he was charged with several offences against an 11-year-old girl in the bathroom of an equestrian centre in Kelowna. He was denied parole in 2022 over concerns he'd reoffend, but was released into the community at the end of his sentence in 2023. Dueck was the subject of police public warnings in 2020, when he was released in the Fraser Valley, after serving time for sex crimes. But in 2023, there was no such warning. The equestrian centre charges were laid in March 2024. The father of the girl – whose name is protected by a publication ban – told CTV News at the time that it was 'mind boggling' that the community wasn't warned about Dueck's release. The then-Official Opposition BC United slammed the NDP government over the case, prompting then-Solicitor General Mike Farnworth to order an investigation into what happened. Conditions of latest release Dueck's latest probation comes with several conditions, according to police. He is required to remain under house arrest – inside his home or on its property – 24 hours a day. Dueck may not go to any public park, swimming area, community centre, theatre, daycare centre, school ground or playground where people under age 16 are present or can reasonably be expected to be present, and he must not have any contact or communication with or be in the presence of anyone under the age of 16. 'Taylor Dueck will be subject to monitoring in order to ensure compliance with his conditions,' the RCMP release reads. 'Anyone who sees or knows of Taylor Dueck violating any of these conditions is asked to call 911 immediately.' Police described Dueck as a balding man with 'medium complexion,' brown hair and blue eyes. He stands 5′9″ and weighs approximately 175 pounds. A recent photo was published with the RCMP release.
