WATCH: Taylorville Police Dept. shares close call with Scott's Law violation
TAYLORVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — The Taylorville Police Department is alerting drivers to follow Scott's Law after an intoxicated driver nearly hit two of their officers, and it was caught on camera. During a DUI stop over the weekend, two officers were speaking when one noticed a pickup truck approaching in that lane. They had to quickly move out of the way. Two patrol cars stopped the driver of the pickup truck later. Officers determined that driver was also intoxicated. Taylorville teens nearly derail train hauling hazardous materials by putting plates on tracks
TAYLORVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — One train conductor said if he hadn't slowed down in Taylorville, his train, carrying hazardous materials, would have derailed after a group of teens placed tie plates on the tracks. UPDATE: Four cadets charged in connection to Lincoln's ChalleNGe fight On Thursday at approximately 10:15 p.m., Taylorville Police Department officers were dispatched to Macon Metals in response to a train incident requiring assistance. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the train conductor, who said that a group of unknown teenagers were seen placing tie plates on the rails near the baseball diamonds on South Webster St. Photos courtesy of the Taylorville Police Department Facebook page As a result, the train struck the tie plates, causing severe damage and the train company lost tens of thousands of dollars due to time restrictions. The conductor also said that had he been traveling at the normal 50 MPH speed, the train would have derailed. The conductor also emphasized that the train was carrying hazardous materials. He ended up reducing his speed due to another train he saw ahead, preventing a more severe incident. 'This is an extremely serious matter that could have had catastrophic consequences,' the Taylorville Police Department said in their Facebook post. 'We urge anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the Taylorville Police Department immediately.' Taylorville Police Dept. announces home seizure policy for drug crimes
TAYLORVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — The Taylorville Police Department is pursuing a new policy in combatting drugs: seizing the properties where they are found. Chief Dwayne Wheeler said in a Facebook post that his department would be applying for the forfeiture of such properties whenever people are convicted and sent to prison. Police will be responsible for submitting the necessary paperwork, which will then be reviewed by the State's Attorney's Office and the Illinois State Police Asset Forfeiture Unit. Springfield man sentenced 10 years for heroin, gun charge The mayor and city council will then determine the property's further use upon its seizure. 'Let this serve as a clear warning — if you engage in drug-related activities in this community, you risk losing your home,' Wheeler said. 'TPD and the State's Attorney's Office will aggressively pursue property forfeitures against those who choose to use their residences for illegal drug activity. Take your drug dealing elsewhere or face the consequences.' Wheeler added that the same day he announced the new policy, a person was sentenced in Christian County court on drug charges and the presiding judge approved the forfeiture of their home.
