Mobile County Public School Board approves 2025-2026 academic calendar options
MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Board members for the Mobile County Public School System have approved two options for the 2025-2026 school year calendar.

Both options have students returning to school on Monday, Aug. 11.
Holidays that are the same on both calendar options include:
Sept. 1 — Labor Day
Nov. 11 — Veterans Day
Nov. 24-28 — Thanksgiving Break
Feb. 16-18 — Presidents' Day/Fat Tuesday
April 13-17 — Spring Break
May 25 — Memorial Day
Although the main holidays are the same, there are many differences between the two calendars.
Option one has teachers returning to school for Teacher Work Days from Aug. 6-8, whereas, in option two, teachers return on Aug. 4 for Professional Development and Teacher Work Days all week.
The second quarter would begin on Oct. 14 in option one with a Teacher Work Day scheduled on Oct. 13. Option two has the second quarter starting on Oct. 13 with no Teacher Work Day scheduled.
As far as Christmas break goes, both options have the last day of school before the break on Dec. 19. Option one has students returning to the classroom on Jan. 7, with teachers returning on Jan. 5 for two Teacher Work Days.
In option two, students would return on Jan. 6, and teachers would have a Teacher Work Day on Jan. 5.
The end of the school year is also different on both calendar options. Option one has the last day of school for students on May 28, and option two has the last day of school on May 22.
Option two has multiple virtual days scattered throughout the school year as well.

Teacher Work Days — Feb. 19-20
Students return to class — Feb. 23
Virtual Learning Day — March 13
Teacher Work Day — March 16
Last Day of School — May 22
Teacher Work Days — May 26-28
MCPSS officials will provide voting/comment forms for those interested in leaving their feedback.
After receiving input from employees and parents, the Calendar Committee will provide the final calendar option for the board to approve.
