Clear guidelines needed for book vouchers, says PM

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the government will continue to give book vouchers to university students, with some changes to the initiative's implementation. (Facebook pic) KUALA LUMPUR : Clear guidelines on the distribution of book vouchers are needed to avoid funds being used for low-quality books, says Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. 'Not all books are of quality and encourage knowledge,' he said at the closing ceremony of the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair at the World Trade Centre today. Anwar had announced that more than 400,000 teachers nationwide will receive book vouchers as part of the government's efforts to encourage reading. 'We'll see first (what we can do about book vouchers) next year because we're currently contending with the US tariffs,' he said. He said the government will continue to give book vouchers to university students, with some changes to the initiative's implementation. MORE TO COME

Andrew has previously revealed how he was told to ditch his family name by his first agent, because it made him "sound like a hobbit". Taking to Reddit to discuss, one fan said: "it means 's**t shoveler'. "His agent said changing it would greatly benefit his career and he was not wrong!" Doctors are threatening fresh strike action after the Government today offered a 'woefully inadequate' pay rise of 4 per cent. Despite ministers accepting a series of recommendations by public sector pay review bodies, trade union bosses put Labour on notice of a possible 'summer of discontent'. Among the pay offers announced this afternoon, teachers and school leaders in England will also receive a 4 per cent pay rise. Most members of the Armed Forces will be given a 4.5 per cent pay hike, while nurses, midwives and physiotherapists will see their salaries boosted by 3.6 per cent.
