Pupils go green at Kerry school with new water system

Installed as part of a wider initiative to support children's health and wellbeing as well as maintaining a Sustainable School Community, the new system ensures high-quality; filtered water is readily available throughout the school day for all the boys and girls. The new system eliminates the need for the children to purchase bottled water and eliminating the hassle of storing and disposing of empty bottles. This will also prove cost saving in the long run where there will be no need to purchase bottled water for the school and making us more sustainable. "As a school we recognise the importance of clean water and want to ensure that all children and staff will have access to filtered water reducing the risk of waterborne illnesses, promoting better overall health and protecting the environment,' said principal Catherine O'Shea As part of our Science, SPHE and Well-Being curriculum this will promote sustainable practices in our school, teaching students about the importance of using water filters and reducing plastic waste promotes sustainable and responsible behaviour from an early age. A grant was provided through Education for Sustainable \development (ESD). Staff and students further celebrated the initiative by launching their very own Ballyfinane NS re-usable bottles and new school yard games this week. These bottles sport the school's trademark blue and white along with the school logo. With the glorious weather at the moment and the new playground games Ballyfinane N.S. is committed to enhancing our schools sustainable footprint. The school is to host an Open Day on Saturday, May 17 where prospective new students for September 2025-2028 are invited to enjoy a 'Teddy Bear's Picnic', view the school and our new upgraded yard facilities as well.

Children at Sunderland nursery thrilled by surprise visit from Pudsey Bear

Children at a nursery in Sunderland were thrilled by a surprise visit from Pudsey Bear. Busy Bees at Sunderland Ryhope Village welcomed the nation's favourite bear on Friday, April 11, to help the children and nursery team celebrate their recent fundraising achievements. The nursery, as part of a charity partnership launched last year, has been helping BBC Children in Need in their mission to help every child in the UK thrive. The Sunderland Ryhope nursery contributed to this nationwide effort by participating in The Big Trike Ride, where children collectively triked, biked, or scooted 874 miles - the distance from Land's End to John O'Groats. The nursery raised more than £1,200 in the process. "Seeing the children's faces light up when Pudsey arrived was priceless. "It was such a rewarding way to mark this special moment." The children enjoyed a Teddy Bear's Picnic and participated in a variety of activities with Pudsey, including ring-themed activities and classic songs such as Ring o' Roses. Ms Miller added: "We know the funds raised will help so many children across the UK, and we can't thank everyone enough for their amazing support."
