K'taka govt to celebrate two years in office tomorrow, to distribute 1 crore land ownership documents

The Karnataka government is all set to host the mega event to celebrate the completion of two years in office in the state by distributing land ownership records to over 1 crore people. The mega event is scheduled to be held at Hospet town in Vijayanagara district, located in the north Karnataka region, on Tuesday (May 20). The event is called the 'Sadhana Samavesha'. The party will also unveil the statue of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will attend the event. Speaking to the media after reviewing preparations for the upcoming progress convention in Hosapet, Vijayanagara, being held to mark the Congress government's two-year milestone, Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar said: 'The state government is not merely celebrating two years in office. Through the 'Land Guarantee' scheme, we are working to repay our debt to the people by providing land ownership documents to over one crore citizens.' Shivakumar said that Opposition MLAs have also been invited respectfully. The Chief Minister has personally invited opposition leaders. Indira Gandhi once gave a speech on this sacred land, and now a statue of hers, built by our district in-charge minister, will also be unveiled. 'Every individual wishes to own the land they reside on. For years, many Scheduled Castes, backward classes, and landless people have built homes on unregistered land and faced hardships. Our government has provided a solution to this. The BJP government once organised a programme in Kalaburagi claiming they would provide land documents after spending Rs 20 crore, but failed to implement it due to the lack of planning,' he claimed. Shivakumar emphasised that the land under revenue or private ownership, up to 4,000 feet, where people have been residing for years, has now been taken over by the government. The Tehsildar will become the legal owner, and through the sub-registrar's office, this land will be transferred to the people free of cost. "A total of 1.11 crore property records have been prepared, and the respective Tehsildars will distribute them. This land cannot be sold for 15 years after registration. The Tehsildars will register the property and hand over the ownership to the beneficiaries. The accounts will also be updated in coordination with the PDO department, and the required fees have been deferred,' Shivakumar announced. Vijayanagara district has been made free of land disputes, and 79,000 farmers have been issued podi (land survey) records. This is a new model for the entire country. Our government is not hosting these events just to celebrate two years, he added.

Punjab to procure its own anti-drone systems for border security

CHANDIGARH: In a significant move amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday announced that the state government would procure its own anti-drone systems for surveillance and defence along the international border. After a cabinet meeting, Mann said nine anti-drone systems would be deployed across the 532-km-long border stretch from Pathankot to Abohar. 'We will buy our own anti-drone system as we have six border districts. Anti-drone systems are designed to detect, track, and neutralise unauthorised drones. We are already in the process of purchasing such systems. The BSF has already got some anti-drone systems,' he said. However, he did not disclose the amount sanctioned for the procurement. Mann further stated that cabinet ministers from the border districts would remain stationed in their respective areas to ensure there was no hoarding or black-marketing of essential commodities. 'They will ensure that no hoarding or black-marketing takes place. I want to tell people that there is no shortage of LPG, petrol and diesel in the state. If anyone is black-marketing, you can complain to the deputy commissioner of your area,' he said. Ministers from the border districts, including Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, Lal Chand Kataruchak and Laljit Bhullar, would stay put along with other cabinet colleagues to monitor and review the situation. 'We are in regular touch with our DCs in the six border districts. The posts of Tehsildars and Kanungos in all border districts have been filled. They need to be in regular touch with the armed forces,' he added, reiterating that the situation was under control and there was no need for the public to panic.

Ambulances to be moved to border districts being shelled by Pakistan, Rs 5 crore to each DC for ‘exigencies'

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Wednesday chaired an emergency meeting with Deputy Commissioners of all border districts through video conferencing to assess the situation in the wake of intense cross-border shelling by Pakistan. 'The situation and preparedness to deal with exigencies was reviewed in view of the current developments and escalating tension, particularly along the LOC and districts close to the international border,' a government statement said. Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Divisional Commissioners of Kashmir and Jammu, Commissioner Secretary Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Secretary Health and Medical Education and Deputy Commissioners of Jammu, Poonch, Rajouri, Kathua, Samba, Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora districts attended the meeting. The Chief Minister issued directions to 'immediately release contingency funds of Rs 5 crore to each border district and Rs 2 crore each to other districts so that District Collectors are equipped to deal with the exigencies arising and requiring availability of adequate resources'. He 'directed that frontier districts be accorded special priority in the disbursement of these funds.' Highlighting the importance of safeguarding civilian lives, the CM called for strengthening infrastructure with regard to providing shelters and bunkers for public in border areas, keeping evacuation plans ready, and ensuring sufficient stock of food supplies. In respect of medical assistance, Omar directed the UT's Health Department to maintain sufficient stock of essential medical supplies, ensuring availability of doctors and paramedics, and keeping blood supply ready in case of any depletion in hospitals, especially in vulnerable areas. He also directed to move ambulances to the border districts witnessing cross-border shelling so that in case of any casualty, the injured are rushed to the hospitals. The Chief Minister expressed grief on the loss of lives and injuries to several civilians living along the LoC and directed DCs to provide all assistance to the affected families. 'He gave directions to the administration to immediately fill up vacant posts of Tehsildars and other officers in the districts so that government machinery is fully functional and responds to the situation swiftly,' the J&K administration said. The CM also instructed all officers to actively counter misinformation and rumour-mongering, urging the public to rely solely on verified official sources of information.

Join immediately or face action, Punjab govt warns transferred Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars

A day after transferring 56 Tehsildars and 166 Naib Tehsildars across the state and asking them to join their posting immediately, the Punjab government on Tuesday warned of 'strict action' against those who failed to report to their new postings in time. Cabinet Minister for Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management, Water Supply & Sanitation and Housing and Urban Development Hardeep Singh Mundian said, 'Many officials have not joined their new postings. They should immediately report to their new postings, or else strict action will be taken against them.' Sources said Mundian issued warnings after receiving phone calls from a few Cabinet colleagues, informing him that several Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars were not willing to join their new postings. He said Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars were transferred in the wake of ongoing reforms in the revenue department. 'I will check revenue offices from tomorrow, and if anyone is found absent from duty during the surprise checking, strict action will be taken against the officer/employee concerned,' the minister warned, 'Indiscipline will not be tolerated at any cost.' Ensuring faster registration of sale deeds at district headquarters, registering over 50 sale deeds every day, the government posted two Joint Sub Registrars in 12 Sub Registrar offices in several districts. Also, the state government is undertaking to reform the revenue department as Sub Registrar offices are considered 'dens of corruption'. The AAP-led government, in its fresh crusade against corruption after the party lost the Delhi Assembly elections, had transferred 58 tehsildars and 177 naib tehsildars and divested them of registration work on March 5. Another massive rejig was done on Monday. 'The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is committed to providing better administrative services to the people. There will be no compromise on administrative services being provided to the people. Hence, undue harassment of people at revenue department offices will not be tolerated,' Mundian warned officials. A revenue department officer said a confusion was created after two revenue officials were posted at one place with no addition infrastructure to accommodate the second one. 'For instance, in Ludhiana, there is an office for only one Sub Registrar, but two officials have been posted as Sub Registrar and Joint Sub Registrar. In Ludhiana East, Ankush Singh has been posted as Joint Sub Registrar-I, Ludhiana East, and Arshpreet Kaur has been posted as Joint Sub Registrar-2 in Ludhiana East. There is confusion, as there is only one place for posting. How will these two officials join when there is no infrastructure and there are no separate offices? The work of a Sub Registrar means creating an ID online, which is a huge responsibility. These problems are being faced, and the minister is saying they should join immediately,' the officer said. However, a senior government officer said most of the transferred officers joined their new postings. 'Those who do not have an office have been asked to report to the Deputy Commissioner concerned about their postings. If there is a problem, the DC is responsible for providing infrastructure to them,' he said. The officer added that in Ludhiana alone, at least 120 sale deeds were registered every day. 'The work is being streamlined in such offices. Similar is the case in Kharar, Mohali, Zirakpur, Ludhiana West, Ludhiana East, Ludhiana Central, Amritsar I and Amritsar II, Jalandhar I and Jalandhar II, Patiala and Bathinda offices. All these offices see more than 50 sale deeds being registered every day. Hence, two Joint Sub Registrars have been posted in all these places.'

Ludhiana: Report immediately or face action, Mundian to transferred revenue officials

Punjab Revenue Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian has issued a stern directive to 56 Tehsildars and 166 Naib Tehsildars, recently transferred on April 21, to report to their new postings immediately or face strict disciplinary action. Expressing concern over the failure of many officials to assume their new roles, Mundian called the delay gross negligence. He announced that he, along with the Financial Commissioner (Revenue), will inspect the offices of Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars on Wednesday, April 23, to verify compliance. Absenteeism or failure to join duties will result in swift action, he warned. Mundian clarified that the transfers are part of ongoing reforms in the Revenue Department, aimed at enhancing efficiency and transparency. He emphasized the Punjab government's zero-tolerance policy toward corruption and public inconvenience, underscoring the commitment of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann's administration to delivering responsive and accountable governance.
