‘Premalu 2' delayed: Dileesh Pothan CONFIRMS; hold on Naslen-Mamitha Baiju sequel

Fans of the rom-com 'Premalu' may have to wait longer than expected for its much-anticipated sequel. In a recent interview, actor-director and co-producer

confirmed that 'Premalu 2' is currently delayed.
While the sequel had been announced soon after the original film's theatrical success, Dileesh Pothan revealed that the team has not yet moved forward with its development, and there's no timeline in place for when production might resume.

Talking to The Cue, Dileesh Pothan said, 'Our next immediate project won't be 'Premalu 2', it's another directorial venture of Girish AD.'

While Premalu 2 had been announced with plans for a grander scale, Dileesh Pothan's comments indicate that the sequel will take longer to materialise. As of now, no shooting dates or casting confirmations have been made.
What 'Premalu' captured so well
Premalu told the story of Sachin, a young guy from Kerala who couldn't quite catch a break. After his plans to move abroad fall through, he ends up in Hyderabad—not really sure what he's chasing, but hoping things will turn around.
There, he meets Reenu, who works at an IT company. They're opposites in many ways, but as they keep bumping into each other, something starts to click—slowly, awkwardly, and sweetly.
The magic of the film wasn't just in the romance. It came from the little moments, the humour that felt real, and the people around them. Characters played by Sangeeth Prathap, Akhila Bhargavan, Mathew Thomas, Meenakshi Raveendran, and Shyam Mohan brought their own quirks and energy, making the story feel warm and familiar—like something you've lived through or wish you had.
What made Premalu stand out wasn't just the laughs or the chemistry—it was how grounded it all felt. No big drama, no over-the-top twists. Just a feel-good, charming slice of life that made audiences smile, and that's exactly why it became one of the biggest hits of the year.
Naslen's 'Alappuzha Gymkhana'
On the other hand, Naslen's previous outing was 'Alappuzha Gymkhana' which earned a solid 3.5 star rating from ETimes with our official review reading, 'The performances are uniformly stellar.
Naslen brings a restless energy to Jojo, part clueless, part charming, all heart. Lukman as Antony Joshuva is a quiet storm, carrying his role with understated brilliance. Baby Jean's David John is endearing, while Anagha Ravi's Natasha has quiet confidence and surprising grit.
Alappuzha Jimkhana may not offer the highs of Thallumaala, nor does it aim to. This is a slice-of-life narrative about kids who dream in fragments and grow up learning that sometimes the greatest win is just to stay on your feet. More than a sports drama, it's a ringside seat to youth, chaos, and coming of age. Messy, minimal, but meaningful.'
