Old vs new: Row over Telangana Thalli statue
Jangaon:The installation of the Telangana Thalli statue in Palakurthi snowballed into a major controversy with both the BRS and the Congress cadres hellbent on installing the earlier and the new version of the statue of Telangana Thalli. It may be recalled here that the Revanth Reddy Government unveiled a newly designed Telangana Thalli statue, replacing the previous one that the BRS Government designed. The Congress cadre removed the old Telugu Thalli statue and installed the newly designed statue, despite stern opposition from the BRS cadre. Congress cadre added more fuel to the controversy by throwing the old statue into nearby thorny bushes. In this regard, BRS leader Errabelli Usha Dayakar Rao, wife of former minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao, who represented the Palakurthi constituency thrice before losing in the 2023 election, led a rally with the cadre to the police station on Sunday. But the police stopped their rally and tried to disperse the BRS workers. Fury over the development, Usha Dayakar Rao found fault with the police for giving undue importance to Jhansi Reddy, the mother-in-law of local MLA Yashaswini Reddy. 'Even though Jhansi Reddy didn't have Indian citizenship, the police were giving high priority. Jhansi is behaving like a de facto MLA. Why aren't the police allowing me to the police station to register a complaint against the Congress workers' attacks on BRS cadre?' Usha Dayakar Rao questioned. Referring to the illegal arrests and attacks on BRS workers, she said that they have been counting the mistakes of the police and will pay back after returning to power.

Kavitha explodes, alleges BRS-BJP merger bid, slams party leadership and ‘coverts'
Hyderabad: In a dramatic escalation of intra-party squabbling, BRS MLC and former MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha, daughter of party supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao, on Thursday accused senior leaders within her own party of attempting to merge the Bharat Rashtra Samithi with the BJP—a move she says she vehemently opposed even while incarcerated in the Delhi liquor policy scam case last year. In an informal but politically loaded media interaction at her Banjara Hills residence, Kavitha tore into the party leadership, indirectly targeting working president and her brother KT Rama Rao for failing to act against 'internal coverts,' not responding to attacks from the Congress, and remaining silent during a coordinated smear campaign against her. "When I was in jail, there was talk of merging BRS with BJP. I told my father KCR clearly: Let the party remain independent, even if it meant I stayed in jail for six months or another year," Kavitha said. The MLC said her actions were aimed only at strengthening the party, and backstabbing was not in her DNA. 'Backstabbed from within' Kavitha said there was a deliberate internal conspiracy to sideline her and sever her influence with KCR. Referring to the leak of a private feedback letter she had written to her father earlier this month, she accused party insiders—"coverts," as she put it—of attempting to discredit her and questioned why the party leadership failed to identify or act against those responsible. Despite the fallout, she said she stood by her letter, which highlighted the lack of aggressive opposition to the Congress, the need for BC reservations, and the declining accessibility of party leaders. "I have written hundreds of letters over 25 years. This was not new. After reading the letters, KCR tears them. The only difference is—this one wasn't torn up by KCR, and it was leaked to the media by some coverts," she remarked. Without naming him directly, Kavitha repeatedly criticised KTR's passive approach to major political developments, including the Congress-led probe into the Kaleshwaram project and the symbolic BRS protest over the Telangana Thalli statue. She mocked the leadership's decision to celebrate the party's silver jubilee abroad while ignoring issues at home. She said the silver jubilee public meeting in Warangal was a huge success because of KCR. "When Congress changed the Telangana Thalli statue, we wore black for one day and moved on. But we had more outrage over Adani?" she asked, questioning the party's priorities. 'Won't work under anyone' She also hit out at the party's failure to support local BRS leaders whose institutions faced demolition, saying the leadership remained 'mute spectators.' Declaring that she would never leave BRS unless pushed, Kavitha made it clear she would not work under anyone but KCR (who she called her boss), while still respecting the position of the working president. "Some people who preach morals today never ran the show themselves. They always stood behind KCR's shadow," she claimed. Kavitha avoided giving a direct answer about floating a new political party. However, she reiterated that her fight was for transparency and reform within BRS. "My only demand right now is to expose the moles within the party. That's the starting point," she said. She distanced herself from rumours about joining the Congress, describing it as a 'sinking ship' and affirming that she hadn't been in contact with any Congress leaders since 2013, during the Telangana statehood agitation. "Back then, it was KCR and I who met Sonia Gandhi through Oscar Fernandes," she recalled. Ironically, she alleged that some BRS leaders were currently hobnobbing with both Congress and BJP—one even attending a BJP leader's hospital inauguration while the party remained unaware or indifferent. 'Not after power or posts' Kavitha also revealed that she offered to resign from her MLC post after her arrest, but KCR discouraged it. She clarified that her nomination to the legislative council after her 2019 Lok Sabha defeat was more for 'protocol reasons,' and due to lack of local support from BRS MLAs in her constituency. "I wasn't given the MLC for power. It was so I could have a platform in Nizamabad," she said, suggesting she was still paying the price for internal sabotage in 2019. She further emphasised that her Telangana Jagruthi initiatives, including caste census and BC reservations, were never meant to challenge the BRS, but to strengthen its social justice plank.

Pageant queens gobsmacked as drone show lights up sky
Hyderabad: Spectacular drone show showcasing the popular schemes the Telangana government enthralled the contestants of 72nd Miss World at the Dr BR Ambedkar Secretariat on Sunday. The Miss World contestant came to the Secretariat at 6 pm. The contestants were seen showering flowers on the statue of 'Telangana Thalli' in the premises while the song 'Jaya Jaya He Telangana.' The contestants from ten countries including Miss India Nandini Gupta were seen showering petals. Some of the contestants were seen taking selfies. The participants maintained silence for a few minutes to pay tribute to the 17 persons who died in the fire accident at Gulzar Houz in the early hours on Sunday. The drone show was the special attraction of the night. The drone show had picutres of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Telangana Skill University, Revanth Anna sanna biyam, gas cylinder for Rs 500 and others of the 'Praja Palana.' Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao said that Telangana was a land of youthful, energy and dynamic growth. 'Telangana is one of the fastest growing in the country and we will continue to move forward with determination and hope. Know that you are more than contestants, you are ambassadors of goodwill and you carry with you the hopes and pride of many nations. When you return home, you carry with you not only memories of this event, but also a little piece of Telangana's heart. Be our ambassadors of Telangana for promotion of Tourism, culture, quisine,' said Krishna Rao, urging the contestants to visit Telangana. Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao said that this event gives an opportunity to showcase the food, the tourist places the State has, historical places, the culture of the place and much more. 'As many participants have spoken to me and expressed their deep pleasure and also the happiness with which this event has been conducted. They have participated in the events enthusiastically, they mingled with our local people, visited our temples, seen Charminar, Lad Bazar,' said Ramakrishna Rao. He also explained about the structure of the administrations.

Miss World contestants to visit Police command control center in Hyderabad on May 18
(Credit-X) NEW DELHI: Miss World contestants will visit Telangana police's Integrated Command Control Center in Hyderabad on Sunday as part of the ' Secure Hyderabad , Safe Tourism' initiative, aimed at showcasing the state's law enforcement capabilities and promoting tourism. The program will feature demonstrations by various police units including the Mounted Police, Dog Squad, and OCTOPUS elite commando unit, highlighting the strength of Telangana's police forces. The contestants will later visit the State Secretariat and pay floral tributes at the Telangana Thalli statue. A 3D mapping and drone show will demonstrate the implementation of government schemes. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy , cabinet members, advisors, MLAs, MLCs, and secretariat officials are expected to attend the event. The Miss World 2025 contest, which began in Hyderabad on May 10, will continue until May 3. The Telangana government is using this platform to promote the state as a global tourist and investment destination. On Saturday, the contestants participated in sports activities and visited Ramoji Film City , recognized as the world's largest film city. The state government has developed a comprehensive action plan to leverage the Miss World event for promoting Telangana's tourism potential and investment opportunities.
