No move to shut down theatres ahead of Pawan Kalyan's movie release, says Dil Raju
Well-known Tollywood producer and exhibitor Dil Raju on Monday denied any move to shut down theatres in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana ahead of Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan 's movie release. He told reporters here that no one has the guts to stop the release of Pawan Kalyan's film 'Hari Hara Veera Mallu', scheduled to hit the screens on June 12. Dil Raju, who is also the chairman of Telangana State Film Development Corporation, alleged that some vested interests were spreading false rumours. He clarified that he was not part of any meeting which decided to shut down theatres or the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce gave any such signal. "Why would anyone think of stopping Pawan Kalyan movie, who is a big star with a huge following," he asked. It was on April 19 that exhibitors and distributors from the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh resolved to shut down theatres in their region if their demands were not met. Dil Raju claimed that they softened their stand later as producers understood the problems faced by exhibitors. The producer also stated that exhibitors in other parts of Andhra Pradesh and in Telangana also made a few demands, like the percentage system. He, however, claimed that the theatre shutdown was never on the agenda in any meeting. Rumours have been doing the rounds for the last few days that theatres would shut down for Pawan Kalyan's movie. Films like Bhairaavam, Thug Life and Kubera are also slated for release in June. Dil Raju said the rumours created confusion and annoyed the Andhra Pradesh government. Andhra Pradesh's Tourism and Cinematography Minister Kandula Durgesh, who is a leader of Pawan Kalyan-led Jana Sena, alleged a conspiracy behind the call to close theatres. He even called for a probe to find out who gave the shutdown call. Pawan Kalyan himself issued a statement, slamming Tollywood for lacking minimum respect towards the TDP-led NDA government when it is contemplating to accord industry status and develop it further. The Deputy Chief Minister stated that representatives from Tollywood have not met Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu even a year after the formation of the coalition government. The actor-politician remarked that filmmakers come to the government only during the release of their movies. He said the film industry forgot the alleged humiliation meted out to them by the previous government of YSR Congress. 18 years for Johnny: Power Star Pawan Kalyan's directorial debut touched a million hearts with its emotional story He declared that henceforth, no individual meetings would be entertained with producers or directors regarding matters such as ticket pricing or film releases. Instead, all communication must go through recognised film associations. The statement also criticised the industry's silence on several pressing issues, including a lack of transparency in theatre revenues, tax compliance, subpar infrastructure in both single-screen and multiplex cinemas, and confusion over ticket pricing regulations. Following Pawan Kalyan's outbursts, eminent filmmaker Allu Aravind distanced himself from the group accused of monopolising theatrical business decisions. Denying that he is part of the group of four industry bigwigs allegedly influencing theatre policies, Aravind stated that his company does not own a single theatre in Telangana except AAA. Aravind, who is the brother-in-law of Pawan Kalyan's elder brother and megastar Chiranjeevi, also clarified that out of the 1500 theatres in the Telugu states, his company operates only about 15 theatres, which are also going to be handed over to someone else soon. The veteran producer supported Pawan Kalyan and found fault with the reported move to shut down theatres. Allu Aravind Supports Pawan Kalyan, Questions Theatre Bandh Amid HHVM Release; Dil Raju Calls It ‘Miscommunication'
The controversy over a possible theatre bandh in Telugu states has stirred strong reactions from industry leaders ahead of the release of actor-politician Pawan Kalyan's film Hari Hara Veera Mallu (HHVM), scheduled for June 12. Pawan Kalyan recently criticized the Telugu film industry for showing a lack of respect toward the Andhra Pradesh government, prompting support from producer Allu Aravind and clarifications from Telangana Film Development Corporation Chairman Dil Raju. Pawan Kalyan's Remarks: Pawan Kalyan called out the film industry for not showing gratitude or respect to the Andhra Pradesh government. He highlighted that despite the government's efforts to grant industry status and develop the film sector, the film chamber had yet to meet AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu since he took office. While not mentioning the bandh explicitly, his film HHVM was at risk of being affected by the ongoing disputes. Allu Aravind's Stand: Backing Pawan Kalyan, Allu Aravind questioned the rationale behind a theatre bandh just before HHVM's release. He praised Pawan's contributions to the industry since assuming office and revealed that when they approached Pawan about ticket price hikes, he directed them to meet the AP CM through the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce. Aravind criticized the industry bigwigs for ignoring this advice and questioned their respect toward the government, especially since they had previously met with the former CM. Dil Raju's Clarification: At a press conference in Hyderabad, Dil Raju called the bandh controversy a result of 'miscommunication.' He acknowledged Pawan Kalyan's justified frustration but insisted that no one intended to block the film's release. Raju blamed sensational media coverage and said the theatre bandh talks began after East Godavari exhibitors raised concerns over the revenue model in April. He emphasized that the HHVM release date wasn't finalized when discussions started and denied encouraging any shutdowns. Raju also criticized the lack of unity in the Telugu film industry and blamed the film chamber for failing to address the issue promptly. The controversy highlights ongoing tensions between the Telugu film industry and the Andhra Pradesh government as they navigate demands around revenue sharing and industry development, with the HHVM release hanging in the balance.

Allu Aravind backs Pawan Kalyan and questions theatre bandh during HHVM release; Dil Raju claims ‘miscommunication'
Ever since news came out two weeks ago that the exhibitors in the Telugu states are debating calling for a theatre bandh from 1 June, should their demands not be met, allegations have been thrown around. Actor and Deputy CM of Andhra Pradesh, Pawan Kalyan, whose film Hari Hara Veera Mallu (HHVM) was in the line of fire, also called out the Telugu film industry for lacking respect for the government. Since then, the bigwigs in the film industry have scrambled to make things right, at least publicly. (Also Read: Telugu film industry doesn't have 'minimum respect or gratitude towards Andhra Pradesh govt', says Pawan Kalyan) On Saturday, the actor-politician called out the film industry's lack of respect, pointing out that the film chamber has yet to meet AP CM N Chandrababu Naidu since he came into power. Pawan said, 'At a time when the government is thinking of giving industry status and developing the film industry, including ensuring that their (film makers) respect is not lowered, they do not have even a minimum respect or gratitude towards the Andhra Pradesh government.' While he did not bring up the bandh, his film HHVM, which was supposed to be released on 12 June, would've been affected. On Sunday, producer Allu Aravind, who is also Pawan's brother, Chiranjeevi's brother-in-law, backed the actor-politician and questioned the bandh. 'When Pawan Kalyan's film is about to release, how do you call for a theatre bandh? He has helped the industry so much since he came into power. When we went to meet him for ticket hikes once, he asked us to meet CM Chandrababu Naidu with the chamber (Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce).' However, Aravind claims that no one bothered to meet the CM despite Pawan asking them to, saying, 'But no one bothered to meet the CM till date. Someone even questioned what our private business has to do with the government. If that's true, why did the bigwigs of the film industry go to meet the former CM? Don't we owe them more respect than this?' Producer Naga Vamsi also posted a cryptic post on X (formerly Twitter) that read, 'Unnecessary issues created at times when focus was needed elsewhere have led to much bigger problems, ones that could have been easily avoided if common sense had taken the driver's seat.' Telangana Film Development Corporation Chairman Dil Raju held a press meet in Hyderabad on Monday to chalk it all down to nothing but 'miscommunication'. 'Kalyan garu is angry today; he has the right to scold us. We will bear it. His anger is justified, but it's not true that his film was targeted. It happened because you also printed such headlines,' he said, also blaming the media, adding, 'No one has the audacity to stop his film from releasing. This was also miscommunicated to the governments. As a film industry, the chamber should've met the AP CM. Don't ask me questions on why we need to meet the government in the first place.' Raju also claimed that the theatre bandh was 'blown out of proportion' after the East Godavari exhibitors kicked off the conversation around the revenue system on 19 April. He also claimed that not all films follow the rental-based model, but most follow the percentage model. 'More than anything, when this conversation began, the HHVM release date was not locked. I never encouraged the exhibitors to shut down theatres,' he claimed, adding, 'Ideally, Allu Aravind and I should've held a press meet together. But there's no unity in the film industry among anyone.' He also blamed the chamber for not speaking up about the issue as soon as the news came out.

Pawan Kalyan fans threaten action in case of disruption to screening of his movie ‘Hari Hara Veera Mallu'
Ahead of the release of the Pawan Kalyan movie 'Hari Hara Veera Mallu' and the rumblings in the film industry, his fans have threatened to jump into action if the 'industry stalwarts' did anything that disrupted the screening of the film. Jana Sena Party's Tirupati constituency in-charge K. Kiran Rayal appealed to the governments in the two Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to bring the warring groups to the negotiating table and amicably settle the issue. He was referring to the call given by the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce (TFCC) to stall screening of films from June 1, a decision that however hangs in balance. Addressing a media conference here on Saturday, he made it clear that he was speaking as a fan and not on behalf of the party. 'Pawan Kalyan is known to serve people with the money earned through films. He doesn't keep anything for himself. If the current crisis results in any form of disruption to the film, we will not tolerate it,' Mr. Kiran Rayal warned. Pawan Kalyan fans are reportedly suspecting a foul play to hinder the successful run of the film.

Poonam Kaur Seeks Action Against Trivikram Srinivas, Slams Industry Silence
Last Updated: Poonam Kaur accused filmmaker Trivikram Srinivas of wrongdoing and criticised Jhansi for not acting on her complaint. Poonam Kaur has consistently accused filmmaker Trivikram Srinivas of wrongdoing, although she has not provided many details. Recently, she took to Instagram stories to accuse Jhansi of not acting on her complaint against Trivikram. Poonam shared a post on Instagram, criticising Jhansi for her lack of action. 'I have told this earlier and telling this again – I have filed a complaint via email, spoke to Jhansi garu, who suddenly after telling me that we will have meeting has delayed and asked me not to disturb her, people say that I have not named any one, I am clearly saying I have a complaint on Trivikram Srinivas who is protected by political corrie and many people in industry – I will speak to women's group as I have written an email (sic)." Though Poonam did not specify whether her complaint against Trivikram was filed with the Movie Artistes Association (MAA) or the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce, she included a screenshot of her communication with Jhansi. In a message dated 18 September 2024, 'Team Jhansi' responded, 'Hi Poonam. We have initiated a process to set up a committee to listen to you. Kindly share all that you want to before that committee. Request you not to share any matter to me before that. We are waiting for a female lawyer to come on board. Appreciate your patience. (sic)" Poonam added, 'Proof of me getting in touch with team – thanks." The specific nature of Poonam's accusations against Trivikram remains unclear as she has not disclosed them publicly. In 2024, when Jani Master faced allegations of raping a minor, Poonam criticised MAA for their inaction, stating, 'Had MAA association taken complaints on Trivikram Srinivas, I and many wouldn't have had the political suffering. I was rather silently ignored. I had given a call and then complained to the heads. I want industry big wigs to question Director Trivikram." Poonam has previously posted vague tweets accusing Trivikram of wrongdoing without providing details. First Published: May 21, 2025, 19:31 IST
