Last two FRU officers injured in Teluk Intan crash leave ICU
IPOH, May 31 — The last two members of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) who were warded at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Teluk Intan Hospital (HTI) were discharged and allowed to go home yesterday. Hilir Perak police chief ACP Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin said the last two patients who were at HTI, namely Sergeant Mazlan Mat, 50, and Corporal Mohd Izwan Ishak, 39, were discharged at about 6pm yesterday. 'Earlier two others, Corporal Haslizal Mohd Ali, 44, who was receiving treatment at HTI, was discharged on May 28, while Corporal Syed Isfan Syed Mohammad, 32, who was treated at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB), was discharged on Friday. 'All patients were discharged yesterday by 6pm. Everyone treated here has been allowed to leave. Thank you all for your support and assistance,' he said in a statement yesterday. Earlier, Bakri mentioned that the last four officers showed significant progress since their critical condition when the accident first occurred. On May 13, an accident at 8.50am claimed the lives of nine FRU personnel and injured nine others when their truck collided with a lorry loaded with gravel stones on Jalan Chikus–Sungai Lampam in Teluk Intan while they were returning to their base in Sungai Senam here. — Bernama

Lorry in FRU crash passed Puspakom inspection, says company owner

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : The owner of the lorry involved in the crash that killed nine Federal Reserve Unit personnel in Teluk Intan on Tuesday says the vehicle passed a Puspakom inspection just last month. The man, who only wished to be known as Ravi, 58, told Utusan Malaysia that the lorry also had all the necessary documents. On Tuesday, deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said while the preliminary findings into the crash suggested a steering issue, the accident could have been prevented if the vehicle had undergone a Puspakom inspection. 'Last month, I went to Puspakom and the lorry passed inspection. After that, I renewed the road tax,' said Ravi. Ravi added that the driver involved in the crash had only been working for about a month and a half. The driver, Rudi Zulkarnain Mat Radi, 45, was charged with causing death by reckless driving yesterday. The 8.40am crash, which also left two FRU officers critically injured, occurred when a gravel-laden lorry was involved in a collision with a FRU truck transporting personnel back to their base in Ipoh after they had provided security support at a festival in Teluk Intan. Ravi said he was deeply saddened by the incident and its impact on the victims' families. He said he was constantly thinking about the victims' families and hoped to meet them, if possible. 'Of course, I feel heartbroken,' he said. 'On behalf of the company, we apologise to the families of the victims, and I also extend my condolences to them. I would like to meet them to express my sympathies. 'I constantly think about how they must feel. They've lost family members, lost husbands — how will they go on with their lives? When the head of the family is gone, of course their lives will be difficult.'

6 FRU men still in hospital, 5 in ICU

(Bernama pic) TELUK INTAN : Six Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) members involved in the road crash here last Tuesday are still undergoing treatment while another was discharged yesterday. Perak health director Dr Feisul Idzwan Mustapha said of the six, five are being treated at Teluk Intan Hospital (HTI) and the other at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB), Ipoh. 'Of the five patients currently receiving treatment at HTI, four are in the ICU. The other is in the surgical ward, where his condition is improving and he may be discharged soon,' he said when met by reporters at HTI today. Feisul said those in the ICU are showing good progress, with one of them requiring close observation. Earlier, the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, met the family members of the FRU personnel at the hospital. Meanwhile, on the condition of the FRU officer in the ICU of HRPB, Feisul said he is beginning to regain consciousness and is showing good progress, despite suffering serious injuries. In the incident at 8.50am last Tuesday, nine FRU members were killed and nine others were injured after the truck they were in was involved in an accident with a gravel-laden lorry on Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam while on the way back from here to the base in Sungai Senam in Ipoh.

Land Public Transport Agency revokes lorry firm's licence over Teluk Intan crash that killed nine FRU personnel
PUTRAJAYA, May 30 — The Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) has revoked the licence of the operator of the stone-laden lorry company involved in an accident that claimed the lives of nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel on Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam, Teluk Intan, on May 13. The revocation of Tashveen Trading's operator license is effective May 29, 2025. 'With the revocation of the operator's license, the company is not permitted to operate or provide any services using any vehicles licensed under that operator's license,' APAD stated in a press release today. APAD's investigation also found that the company failed to comply with the Industrial Code of Practice (ICOP) safety requirements, failed to ensure the Global Positioning System (GPS) was functional and had expired, was carrying loads that violated the type of goods specified in the vehicle's permit, and did not prioritize the safety of other road users. APAD wants to emphasize its stance that it will never compromise on any dangerous driving offences by public land transport vehicles that cause accidents and can threaten the safety of road users. 'APAD also wishes to advise all licensed operators to comply with the license conditions set from time to time to avoid undesirable incidents, which could then lead to license revocation,' APAD said. In the incident at 8.50am on May 13, an FRU lorry carrying 18 personnel from Unit 5, based in Sungai Senam, Ipoh, was involved in a collision with a stone-laden lorry while on its way back after completing duties for the Chitrapournami celebration in Teluk Intan. The accident also resulted in two serious injuries and seven other injuries. — Bernama

Cops reveal attempts to exploit FRU victims' families

(Bernama pic) GERIK : Police say there have been attempts by unscrupulous parties to exploit the families of Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) victims in the recent fatal accident in Teluk Intan. Perak police chief Noor Hisam Nordin said a lawyer has been appointed to represent all affected personnel and their families, ensuring they are not exploited in matters involving compensation and contributions. He also advised them not to engage with unknown individuals, stressing that they must only communicate through the appointed lawyer. 'There are attempts to take advantage of the situation. We cannot go into specifics, but based on reports, it involves financial and legal matters. 'Raja Permaisuri of Perak (Tuanku Zara Salim) has expressed concern over the issue, so we are taking this matter seriously,' he told reporters after an event at the Gerik police headquarters here today. The crash on May 13 involved an FRU truck and a lorry carrying gravel. Nine FRU men were killed and nine more injured. Noor Hisam said the police's integrity and standards compliance department (JIPS) will continue to prioritise providing counselling services for the families of the victims and FRU personnel involved in the accident to help restore their emotional wellbeing. 'Under JIPS, there is the religious and counselling division with trained counsellors who continue to support the affected families and personnel. 'We will not neglect them and will continue to carefully look after every aspect of their wellbeing,' he added.
