Asean All-Stars assemble! Harimau Malaya's Aguero leads the charge against Man United on May 28

KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 — Harimau Malaya naturalised striker Sergio Aguero has described his selection for the Asean All-Stars squad as a significant milestone in his football career ahead of their clash against English giants Manchester United in the Maybank Challenge Cup on Wednesday here. The Sri Pahang FC forward said the opportunity to represent Malaysia on such a prominent stage, even in an exhibition match, is a great honour and a proud moment for him. 'It's an incredible honour to be selected for such a historic match. Playing against one of the biggest clubs in the world, alongside some of the best players from this region, is truly a dream come true. 'What makes it even more special is the chance to represent Malaysia at this stage, carrying the flag in front of our home fans means everything to me,' said the 31-year-old Argentine-born in a statement. The match against United is set to take place at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil, here. Besides Aguero, four other national players selected are Terengganu FC defender Muhammad Azam Azmi Murad, Penang FC winger Muhammad Adib Abdul Ra'op, Perak FC goalkeeper Muhammad Haziq Nazdli and Kuala Lumpur City FC defender Declan Lambert. The last time The Red Devils played in Malaysia was during their 2009 pre-season tour, beating Malaysia XI twice, 3-2 and 2-0, respectively on July 18 and 20 at the National Stadium. The 13-time EPL champions are also scheduled to travel to Hong Kong as part of their pre-season tour to play against the Hong Kong national team on May 30. Meanwhile, according to the statement, the organisers have informed that ticket sales have been brisk with several categories already sold out. #SHOWBIZ: Eyka Farhana's source of strength

ACTRESS Eyka Farhana described her marriage to national and Terengganu FC (TFC) footballer Akhyar Rashid as a testament to patience and trust. Eyka said after a seven-year courtship marked by its share of challenges, their union was a matter of divine timing, noting the meaningful coincidence of their wedding date falling a day after Akhyar's birthday. "Praise be to God, after seven years... our marriage is finally strong. We can only plan, God determines everything," said Eyka. Reflecting on Akhyar's qualities, Eyka spoke of his ability to bring joy and strength to her life. "He always makes me laugh, and he always provides support and joy," she said, adding that Akhyar's devotion to his family was a key factor in her love for him. "The way to see how a man will take care of us is by seeing him take care of his family. Akhyar is also responsible, a gentleman and a good son," Eyka said. Akhyar, in turn, cited Eyka's personality as the primary reason for his affection, praising her politeness and care for his family. "What I like most is that Eyka is good at cooking," Akhyar shared. The couple tied the knot last Friday at Boathouse By The Lake Ampang. Eyka, whose full name is Wan Atiqa Farhana Wan Sarmizi, was married in a ceremony officiated by her father, Wan Sarmizi Wan Ibrahim, and witnessed by a representative from the Gombak Islamic Religious Office. The groom presented five trays of gifts, and the bride reciprocated with seven. Eyka received a dowry of RM3,200.

Terengganu FC hit back at 'damaging' Mamut salary claims

KUALA LUMPUR: Terengganu FC have denied claims they owe former import Ivan Mamut up to nine months' salary, describing the accusations as inaccurate and damaging. In a statement on the club's official Facebook page on Monday, Terengganu said the allegations were not based on official information and warned those responsible not to spread falsehoods. "How can such an issue be sensationalised when it is not even accurate news? The source of this information did not come from the club." Mamut signed a contract extension with Terengganu for the 2024-2025 season in December last year but suffered a serious Achilles tendon injury in March. The club explained they supported the Croatian striker's recovery between April and May, but Mamut requested to return to his home country for rehabilitation, believing it would be more effective. "Both parties agreed to the terms and conditions of this arrangement. However, once his rehabilitation in Croatia ended, our medical team found there was no improvement in his condition." In July, Mamut again asked to remain in Croatia to undergo surgery and complete his recovery until December. The club once again agreed. The striker returned in January hoping to rejoin the squad for the rest of the season, but Terengganu said he was not in the right physical condition to contribute. "His physical readiness was not up to the expected level." Terengganu stressed that they have always prioritised player welfare and welcomed open dialogue to resolve issues. "Terengganu always provide opportunities for discussion to find the best solution for the well-being of the team." They reminded all parties that unresolved matters, including salary disputes, should be handled through proper channels. "The correct channels are clearly stated in the contract that has been mutually agreed upon.

#SHOWBIZ: Eyka Farhana keeps mum about possible marriage on May 2

KUALA LUMPUR: The manager of actress Eyka Farhana, Dyba Farhana, is keeping mum about reports of her sister's upcoming wedding, purportedly set for May 2. Dyba explained that this cautious approach is to "avoid anything untoward from happening." Dyba indicated that Eyka and her fiancé, Terengganu FC winger Akhyar Rashid, will personally announce their nuptials once they are officially husband and wife. "At this time, as Eyka's younger sister, I am unable to confirm the news that has surfaced, primarily to avoid 'penyakit ain' (the evil eye)," Dyba told Kosmo! Online. "We hope everyone understands this situation. God willing, they will share any further developments themselves." Dyba also declined to comment on the reported wedding date of May 2, or the alleged subsequent ceremonies in Kedah on May 11. Sources claiming to have received invitation cards suggest a series of events are planned, including a henna ceremony, and reception celebrations in Kuala Lumpur (May 5), Kelantan (May 12), and Langkawi (May 16). The 30-year-old artiste, whose full name is Wan Atiqa Farhana Wan Sarmizi, has neither confirmed nor denied the distribution of these invitation cards. Akhyar, when approached during the final Super League match against Kedah Darul Aman FC last Sunday, mirrored his fiancée's reticence, remaining tight-lipped on the matter. The couple became engaged on Aug 4 last year.
