MetMalaysia warns of frequent rain, thunderstorms in Terengganu til next weekend

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has advised the public to always check weather conditions before engaging in maritime activities. Its director Rosli Zakaria said that frequent rain and thunderstorms can be expected in the afternoon and at night from Sunday (June 29) until next Saturday. "We are currently in the Southwest Monsoon season, which is expected to last until September or October. However, for East Coast states, including Terengganu, this week's weather conditions are expected to be rainy with thunderstorms. "Strong winds and high waves along coastal areas will accompany the thunderstorms. I'd like to advise everyone to be cautious, especially now during the peak of the squid jiggling season, as the weather has been unpredictable," he said on Sunday. He urged the public to refer to weather forecasts through various platforms, including the MetMalaysia website, the myCuaca mobile application and the MetMalaysia hotline at 1-300-22-1638, before carrying out any activities. In a 10.30pm incident on Saturday, three people, including two girls aged 10 and three, were killed when a boat capsized off Pulau Perhentian. The incident occurred during a storm, with heavy rain and rough seas causing the boat, which was carrying 15 passengers aged between three and 40, to sink. - Bernama
