KOTA KINABALU (April 27): The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) will field several candidates in the upcoming Sabah state elections, though the exact number remains undisclosed.
Muda Sabah chairwoman Faezrah Rizalman hinted that the party would contest fewer than ten seats, citing its relatively small membership of 5,000 in the state. However, she expressed optimism about improved performance following years of groundwork, particularly in urban areas.
Faezrah emphasized Muda's openness to collaborating with both government and opposition parties, provided they share similar ideologies. She also noted shifting attitudes among Sabahan youth, who are increasingly focused on safeguarding their rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) rather than local party sentiments.
'The younger generation is evaluating parties based on policy, not rhetoric. Muda aims to set an example by prioritizing principled politics,' she said after launching the Teroka by Muda leadership program in Inanam on Sunday.
Acting Muda president and Puteri Wangsa assemblywoman Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz also attended the event.
The Teroka program is designed to train young leaders in democracy, governance, and community engagement.
