Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy targeted with antisemitic slur while filming video in Toronto
Dave Portnoy is seen outside a pizza spot on Harbord Street in this screen-grab from his video. A well-known media personality with millions of followers was targeted with an antisemitic slur from a passerby while filming a video in Toronto recently. Dave Portnoy is famous for his 'One Bite Pizza Reviews.' His YouTube channel, which features videos of him trying and rating pizza spots in cities all over the world, has nearly 1.5 million subscribers. He is also the founder of Barstool Sports. In one of his latest videos, posted online June 2, he visits Toronto to take a pizza tour. About halfway through the video, while sampling a slice from Terrazza on Harbord Street, someone off-camera yells F*** the Jews at Portnoy, who is Jewish. Several of the people watching the filming of the video start laughing, with Portnoy admonishing them for it before continuing on with the taste test. 'We won't let that get in the… what is that Toronto hospitality there?' he asks as the video continues. The incident comes amid a rising tide of antisemitic incidents, some of them violent, in Canada and around the world. Last month two young people were fatally gunned down while leaving a Jewish event at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. by a man who yelled 'Free Palestine,' according to court documents. The shooting left dead a young couple who were set to be engaged. Then on Sunday in Colorado, a man used an improvised flame thrower and threw Molotov cocktails at a group of people demonstrating for the return of Israeli hostages held by Hamas. Authorities said he told police he planned the attack for a year and wanted 'to kill all Zionist people.' The attack injured 15 people and a dog. Doug Ford says he has 'zero tolerance' for antisemitism According to the latest hate crimes report by Toronto police, Jews remain the most targeted group in Toronto when it comes to hate crimes. In 2024, Jews were targeted in 40 per cent of the city's 443 reported hate crimes, according to the report. Antisemitic incidents in the city have surged in the wake of the Israel-Hamas war. In an interview with CNN Wednesday, Ontario Premier Doug Ford was asked about the rise in antisemitism and said he has 'zero tolerance for hate and discrimination of any kind.' 'Everyone should be living peacefully and I am just tired of all these protests that are happening. I always say the antisemitic slurs and attacks are unacceptable. If you want to attack anyone within the community go back and start attacking within your own country, don't bring your problems over to Canada,' Ford said. 'I am just sick and tired of it. We have 110 nationalities and everyone needs to get along. I say that for, by the way, for any religion. Let's live peacefully together and I think we will all have a great life. But when it comes to racism, antisemitism, Islamophobia, anything, I don't stand for it.' CP24 reached out to Portnoy for comment but has not received a response.

Man yells 'F--- the Jews!' at Dave Portnoy reviewing pizza in Toronto
Dave Portnoy, creator of media company Barstool Sports, was in Toronto trying different pizza spots for his online series, One Bite Pizza Reviews. In a video posted online on June 2, he's guided around Toronto by a local called Bill the Greek. One of the places they visit is Terrazza, a restaurant in the Little Italy neighbourhood. Portnoy meets with Terrazza owner Frankie Lasagna and sees the inside of the restaurant before walking out with a fresh pie. A group of on-lookers watch, some filming, as Portnoy does his review on the street. Portnoy starts talking about Lasagna's story , when someone off-camera cuts him off by yelling, 'F— the Jews!' 'See? There we go,' says Portnoy, as he throws one arm up in the air. The group in the background bursts out into laughter. Portnoy whips his head around and says: 'What are you guys f—ing laughing about?' He stares at the group until they stop laughing. 'Exactly,' he says. 'There's old school and then there's no school,' says a voice off-camera. 'There's no school,' Portnoy agrees, before digging into the pizza. Portnoy ended up giving the Terrazza slice a rating of 7.4 out of 10. On Wednesday, the restaurant said in a statement to National Post that it was 'deeply saddened and angered by the hate that was directed at one of our guests from a passing car outside our restaurant.' The statement continued: 'These actions have no place in our community. Terrazza is a family-run restaurant, and our foundation is built on the values we live by every day: kindness, respect, inclusion, and the belief that everyone deserves to feel safe and welcome at our table.' Meanwhile, a clip of the review that included the antisemitic slur has been circulating online. It was shared by Jewish advocate, public speaker and author Jonny Daniels. He visited Toronto last year to help Canadian Holocaust survivors restore a Torah that was hidden in Poland during the Second World War. He shared the clip of Portnoy on Tuesday with his roughly 84,600 followers on Instagram. The captions reads: 'Toronto, 2025. Listen to what this man screams at Dave Portnoy.' In a statement to National Post on Wednesday, Daniels explained why he wanted to share the video on his account. 'With this unbelievable rise in antisemitism that we are seeing all around the world, I feel it's important that people see it and are aware of how normalized and accepted it's become,' he said. 'The video of Dave shook us up not just because of the nonchalant manner in which the abuse was screamed, but rather the way in which those around laughed at it.' He added that Toronto and Canada at large have become a 'hotbed of antisemitism with Jew hatred absolutely normalized.' He said his hope is that by sharing such videos, those in leadership positions can see and understand 'that something needs to be done, before it's too late.' This latest incident in Toronto comes a month after patrons at a Barstool Sports-owned bar in Philadelphia reportedly asked for a sign that read 'F— the Jews' to accompany their bottle service order. In a post online, advocacy group American Jewish Committee said : 'Video footage showed the group laughing, dancing, and singing along to music, quickly going viral on social media.' Two staff members from the bar were fired over the incident for complying with the customers' request. One of the two patrons believed to be involved was later identified as a Temple University student. He was placed on interim suspension, the university said . Antisemitic slur flung at Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy outside Toronto restaurant
Barstool Sports owner Dave Portnoy was subjected to an antisemitic slur while recording a video in Toronto on Monday. Portnoy visited an Italian restaurant called Terrazza to film one of his "One Bite Pizza Reviews" videos. Before he was about to take his one bite, an unseen man shouted "f--- the Jews" towards Portnoy, who is Jewish. "See? There we go," Portnoy remarked while some other young men behind him, none of whom made the remark, began snickering. Portnoy then turned back towards the men and chided, "What are you guys f---ing laughing about?" The young men immediately stopped laughing, with one of them replying, "terrible." Portnoy continued, saying that he would not let the slur get in the way. "What is that Toronto hospitality there?" Portnoy commented. "That's terrible, terrible," Portnoy's friend Bill the Greek remarked. "There's old school and then there's no school." "There's no school," Portnoy agreed. He went on to compliment the restaurant and gave the pizza a 7.4 score. Portnoy was wrapped up in another antisemitic incident last month when a sign that read "f--- the Jews" was spotted at one of Barstool Sports' bars in Philadelphia. Though he initially described feeling "f---ing mad" and itching to "ruin these people," Portnoy later announced that he was sending the alleged culprits responsible to visit Auschwitz in Poland to turn the incident into a teaching moment on the Holocaust. "These are young f---ing morons who did this. They're drunk. Do you really want to ruin somebody's life?" Portnoy said. "And let me be honest, I don't know what's going on in the world… I've been doing Barstool for 20 years, I've had more hate, more antisemitism in the last year, year and a half, than I've ever had doing it." However, he later revoked the offer to one of the accused men after he claimed the young man denied responsibility for what happened.
