The Eagles' NFC East rivals still have huge lingering contract issues as training camp approaches

Offseason contract negotiations aren't always smooth, not even if you have Howie Roseman as your general manager, but two NFC East teams — not named the Philadelphia Eagles — are facing huge hurdles as they try to re-sign their biggest stars. Washington Commanders WR Terry McLaurin The Commanders have admittedly made fewer bad decisions since Dan Snyder left town, but sometimes it's nice to see not everything has changed in Washington. As mandatory minicamp came and went, Terry McLaurin was notably absent in an effort to send a message to the team about his contract. As the offseason continues on, a new report by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler suggests McLaurin is still not happy with where things stand in terms of getting an extension done. Both sides have a few weeks left to get something done before training camp begins, or Washington risks their veteran WR sitting out. McLaurin is a team and fan favorite, is a huge help for a young QB, and is one of the top wide receivers in the NFL — a feat he's accomplished with some pretty trash QBs over the years. The Commanders would be wise to pay McLaurin before he misses any more time away from the team, but we all know they don't always make the smart decisions. Micah Parsons As for Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys, they've had years to sign Micah Parsons to a new deal, and yet they've pushed things to the last minute and have made mistake-after-mistake in their handling of the situation — which should be a surprise to no one. If the Cowboys would have re-signed Parsons last year, they wouldn't have to top Myles Garrett new deal (4 years, $160 million with $132 million guaranteed), and Parsons has even expressed surprise that Jones would let the price keep going up. Jones might be waiting to see what happens with T.J. Watt or Trey Hendrickson, but if he was a smart man, he'd get a deal done with Parsons before any other market-setters agree to terms. Jones tried to circumvent Parson's agent earlier in the offseason, but the edge defender refused to make a deal without their input. It's been a lot of Jerry Jones saying things to reporters and Micah Parsons addressing it online, with not much movement between the two to actually get a deal done. Unlike McLaurin, however, Parsons attended offseason activities but stopped short of revealing whether he would show up to training camp without a new deal. Commanders' Top Offensive Trio Given So-So Ranking

Commanders' Top Offensive Trio Given So-So Ranking originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Washington Commanders' offense under Kliff Kingsbury is expected to be one of the better units in football this upcoming season. With Jayden Daniels orchestrating it, and Terry McLaurin, Deebo Samuel, Zach Ertz and Brian Robinson Jr. as the top weapons, the Commanders do have a lot going for them offensively. But what about their top three weapons against the rest of the league? CBS Sports' Jared Dubin named "triplets" for each team and ranked them accordingly. For Washington, it was Daniels, McLaurin and Robinson Jr., with the trio coming in at No. 12. "The biggest risers from year to year, Washington leaps from 25th a year ago to just a smidge outside the top 10," Dubin writes. "That's obviously on the strength of Daniels' all-time great rookie season, and of us finally getting to see what it looks like when McLaurin plays with a real live NFL quarterback. "Robinson probably holds this group back, though, as a straight-line runner with no real passing game production. If Washington had added an explosive rookie back, I think the Commies might have jumped into the next group." Daniels will be the straw that stirs the offense's drink in 2025, but he'll have help in McLaurin and Samuel in the passing game, and Robinson Jr. and Austin Ekeler in the run game. Some think a regression is coming for Washington after a 12-5 regular season and an NFC Championship Game appearance, while others think Daniels will only continue his ascension to becoming one of the NFL's best. There's pressure on the Commanders in 2025, but with an offensive trio that could be seen as better than its No. 12 ranking, expect head coach Dan Quinn and his team to continue building something special in the nation's capital. Commanders' Biggest Training Camp Storyline Centered Around 1 Thing

Commanders' Biggest Training Camp Storyline Centered Around 1 Thing originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Training camp is now under a week away for the Washington Commanders, and we are still no closer to a resolution for star receiver Terry McLaurin and his desire for a new contract. We aren't exactly sure what the holdup is, but one thing is for certain: McLaurin isn't in a good mood about it. McLaurin has said he wants to remain a Commander, and the front office and Adam Peters don't appear to be in any hurry to tie down their star receiver to a new deal, which makes training camp a must-watch for McLaurin. Having already skipped OTAs and minicamp, training camp looms as the last arrow in McLaurin's quiver. And for the contract watch is Washington's biggest training camp storyline. 'Will Terry McLaurin show up? All is well in the nation's capital after the Commanders' surprising 2024 campaign -- that is despite McLaurin's contract kerfuffle with management," digital content editor Jeremy Bergmanwrote on Tuesday. "McLaurin could probably wait until the 11th hour before Week 1 to sign and be good to go out of the gate. But after the good vibes of the '24 season, the last thing the Commanders want is their upstanding star WR spending any time away from the team entering 2025.' Everything Peters and head coach Dan Quinn have touched since arriving last season has turned to gold, but this situation is getting messy now. McLaurin's clear frustration in speaking about his status midweek wouldn't have pleased the front office, but it needs to get on the front foot and pay a player many deem, including us, to be perhaps one of Washington's best offensive weapons. Given how good things have been aside from McLaurin's contract saga, it looms as the final piece of business the Commanders have to get done before the decks are cleared for a Super Bowl assault. But until McLaurin's future is sorted, in the form of a deal that pays him over $30 million APY, there will be a dark cloud (once again) hanging over Washington. 'Cooler Heads Should Prevail' In Commanders' Terry McLaurin Contract Saga

'Cooler Heads Should Prevail' In Commanders' Terry McLaurin Contract Saga originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Washington Commanders appear to be just fine with letting Terry McLaurin's contract situation dominate the headlines when it has no reason to. With McLaurin publicly stating how frustrated he was with negotiations with the franchise, McLaurin has already held out of OTAs and minicamp as he searches for a new deal. Some think he could be traded away (we don't see it), and with training camp just around the corner this week, it looms as a line-in-the-sand moment for Terry, considering he'll be fined for not attending. For ESPN's Jeremy Fowler on "SportsCenter" on Saturday, McLaurin won't be anywhere other than Washington in 2025. "The wide receiver market has jumped into that $30 million range," Fowler said. "My sense is McLaurin feels Washington hasn't really been willing to acknowledge that. So if they're not, it's almost like he's taking a pay decrease because he's a year from free agency. Cooler heads should prevail. They want McLaurin there. They're not trading McLaurin. That was made clear to me from a source of the team." Hmm. They want McLaurin, but only want him on their terms. Sounds about right. For a player who has given everything to the franchise in its darkest times and was the ultimate professional and has established himself as a star in the league, it seems more than reasonable for McLaurin to ask for what he's reportedly asking for. A deal worth roughly $30 million APY is more than fair, yet the Commanders seem content to let this thing play out. Washington has a little over $21 million in cap space, so a few restructures are all it would take to get a deal done. The longer this goes on, the more sour it becomes, and for a team that has Super Bowl ambitions, not having its No. 1 weapon for a full preseason is problematic. But the Commanders only have themselves to blame. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 20, 2025, where it first appeared.

Terry McLaurin Considering Holdout or Trade Request From Washington Commanders

Terry McLaurin and the Washington Commanders are set to embark on what should be a thrilling season. While they have sky-high expectations after reaching the NFC Championship Game last season, that means each individual will have to give a maximum effort to accomplish their goals. Unfortunately, things are getting off to a bit of a rocky start as Commanders training camp kicks off. According to Fox Sports' Henry McKenna, McLaurin is keeping all of his options open when it comes to his future in Washington. The two-time Pro Bowl receiver rightfully wants a new deal since he's heading into a contract year. He'd prefer to get that contract from the Commanders so he can continue being Jayden Daniels' top target. However, as McKenna tells it, McLaurin really just wants to get paid. As a result, McLaurin is reportedly even willing to consider holding out from training camp in an effort to gain more leverage during contract negotiations. Otherwise, he may be prepared to demand a trade out of D.C. 'If necessary, McLaurin will explore every option, including a holdout, a hold-in and a trade request, per the source. 'Everything will be on the table,' the source told me. But McLaurin is taking things day-by-day in hopes of hearing more from the Commanders, who have not talked to him about his contract in weeks — even after he spoke out about his dissatisfaction.' McKenna on McLaurin While the Commanders acquired Deebo Samuel this offseason, he was intended to be a complementary weapon that helps take attention away from McLaurin, not replace him. Yet, when Commanders training camp kicks off, it's possible Samuel will be the top target on the field.
