Train disruption as 'all services' at a standstill on major Welsh line

Commuters are facing disruption on Thursday morning as services on two south Wales lines are "at a stand". Traffic monitoring system Inrix reports that Transport for Wales services on the Barry and Bridgend lines are at a stand due to track safety checks. Network Rail have said that disruption is expected until 8.30am at the earliest. Services are affected between Bargoed / Rhymney / Cardiff Central and Barry Island, and also between Cardiff Central and Bridgend. Network Rail added: "There is a points failure between Barry and Bridgend, closing the line running between these stations. As a result, trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 15 minutes or revised." These will be provided by Teulu Coaches. People are being advised that road transport will take longer than rail services. Please allow extra time to complete your journey. You may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey. Network Rail advise passengers to keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim. This is a breaking news story and will be updated.
