North Brentwood Drive in Lufkin facing repairs
LUFKIN, Texas (KETK) – The Lufkin street department will close North Brentwood Drive for a few weeks to conduct repairs. Former City of Quitman employee pays $23K restitution
QUITMAN, Texas (KETK) – Former Quitman water clerk accused of stealing money from the city back in 2021, has repaid the full amount. UPDATE: Suspect arrested in Smith County fatal shooting Amber Raelynn Highnote of Alba was accused of stealing $23,250.00 from February 2018 to July 2021 while she was working at the city of Quitman's water department, according to the Wood County Criminal District Attorney's Office. Judicial records show she pleaded guilty on April 4, 2025. About a month after Highnote resigned from the water department, another city of Quitman employee discovered that some customer payments were disappearing from the company's bank deposits. A financial audit revealed the money reports had several holes and missing money. After Highnote's arrest, former Quitman finance director Sheryl Laudenslager and Mayor Randy Dunn actively worked with Wood County Criminal District Attorney's Office prosecutors to find a solution for the stolen funds. Eventually the full restitution was paid back to the citizens. Frosty Pines celebrates Texas Food Truck Showdown victory in Troup The press release states 'Highnote paid in full the restitution owed. Additionally, Highnote complied with terms and conditions of her pre-trial release bond.' 'I am proud of the cooperation between Mayor Dunn, former Finance Director Sheryl Laudenslager, utility clerk Raylene Green and the prosecutors from the Wood County Criminal District Attorney's Office,' Wood County Criminal District Attorney Angela Albers said. 'The repayment of this money satisfies the desire of the City of Quitman leadership to obtain the return of the stolen money for our citizens and it accomplishes justice consistent with the facts of this case.' Volunteers needed for 2025 Texas Food Truck Showdown
WACO, Texas (FOX 44) – One of Waco's biggest springtime events is getting close, and volunteers are needed! The Texas Food Truck Showdown is coming back to Heritage Square in downtown Waco on Saturday, April 5! There are several different volunteer jobs and time slots available. According to the event's official website, the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce introduced the very first state-wide food truck competition, the Texas Food Truck Showdown, in 2015. The Chamber's special events team anticipated around 5,000 people to be in attendance for the inaugural event, and hoped to secure 20 food trucks from around the state to compete. The first Showdown blew the team's goals out of the water, boasting an impressive 35 food trucks traveling to Waco from all over the state to compete while serving upwards of 15,000 people who attended. The Texas Food Truck Showdown has since become a regular spring event for Waco, welcoming up to 40 food trucks from around the country and over 25,000 people each year!
