Buffalo, habanero, sriracha sauce sold in Ohio, other states recalled: FDA

WINSTON SALEM, N.C. (WKBN) – Six different types of sauces are being recalled. According to an alert from the Food & Drug Administration (FDA), T.W. Garner Food Company is recalling some bottles of Texas Pete® Habanero Buffalo Sauce because they may contain Sriracha Sauce. In addition to this, the company said that some Texas Pete® Sweet CHAbanero Sauce bottles are being recalled because the bottles failed to contain the labeled ingredient aged peppers (Red Habanero Peppers, Salt, Vinegar). The FDA said the Sriracha Sauce contains sulfites that are not declared on the product label. The agency said that people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the sauces. After the labels on the bottles were reviewed, it was determined that the Habanero Buffalo Sauce may contain undeclared sulfites, since the Sriracha Sauce contains sodium bisulfite as a preservative. No illnesses have been reported, according to the FDA. The bottles were distributed between February 5 and March 26 to distribution centers and retail stores located in Ohio and nine other states. Customers who have purchased any of these bottles are urged to dispose of them or return them to their place of purchase for a full refund.
