₹500 crore railway station upgradation project likely to resume soon, says Visakhapatnam MP

Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat has announced that the ₹500 crore railway station upgradation project, which was stalled for the past eight months due to a court stay, is expected to resume soon. He confirmed that railway authorities have received directives to restart the work, which is projected to be completed within 18 to 21 months. As part of the development, six additional railway lines will be added, increasing the total to 14. Addressing a press conference here at the party office on Saturday, Mr. Sribharat also noted that the Union government has appointed a General Manager for the South Coast Railway Zone, who will be assuming charge shortly. He expressed optimism that this move would accelerate development of both headquarters and other pending railway projects in the region. Soon, a gazette notification may also be issued, he said. He also announced that the government would soon launch the 'Thalli Ki Vandanam' scheme, offering free bus transportation for women. JSP celebrates NDA's one year in office as YSRCP observes ‘Vennupotu Dinam' in Vizag

Celebrations organised by the ruling Jana Sena Party (JSP), marking the completion of one year of the NDA government in office, and protest rallies, abuzz with anti-government slogans by the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), raised the political heat in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday. The city thoroughfares were torn between the bursting of firecrackers and other celebrations by the JSP cadre and the protest rallies taken out by the YSRCP as part of the 'Vennupotu Dinam'. Led by YSRCP district president K.K. Raju, a massive rally was taken out from the party office to the collectorate. YSRCP leaders, including Rajya Sabha MP Golla Babu Rao, former MLA Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar, Kola Guruvulu, MLC Varudu Kalyani, YSRCP corporators and cadres took part in the rally. Addressing the media, Mr. Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar stated that a large number of youth, women, and elderly people participated voluntarily in the protest rally to express their dissent against the NDA government. 'The coalition government has failed in meeting the expectations of the people. The ruling parties have reneged on all the promises made to women in the run-up to the elections. Schemes like Maha Shakthi, Thalli Ki Vandanam, and free bus travel are still on paper. Students were deceived as the government failed to reimburse their fees. With no steps to create employment, youth were cheated,' MLC Varudu Kalyani alleged. The YSRCP leaders also alleged that the NDA government was borrowing crores of rupees, but not using it for welfare schemes. On the other hand, the JSP North Constituency cadre organised rangoli competitions for the locals, as part of their celebrations. The JSP leaders stated that the end of the YSRCP government marked a new beginning for the State, paving the way for development under the NDA rule. They said that the people of the State had rejected the YSRCP as it could manage to win only 11 of the total 175 Assembly seats in the State. Under the leadership of JSP Visakhapatnam South MLA Ch. Vamsikrishna Srinivas, the JSP leaders burst firecrackers in the city.

TDP MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao ridicules ‘Vennupotu Dinam', he says Jagan has not learnt a lesson yet

Ridiculing the YSR Congress Party's (YSRCP) idea of observing 'Vennupotu Dinam' to mark the formation of one year of the NDA government, Bheemunipatnam MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao stated that the YSRCP president, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, appears to have learned nothing from the party's recent electoral defeat. Addressing a press conference at his residence in the city on Wednesday (May 4, 2025), Mr Ganta Srinivasa Rao said that typically, when a political party loses an election, their leader assesses the reasons behind the loss, conducts meetings with the cadre, and prepares strategies to rebuild public trust. However, in the case of Mr. Reddy, it seems like he believes the people committed a mistake by not voting for him. The former CM is unable to accept the fact that people have rejected him, he added. Mr. Srinivasa Rao alleged that over the past week, the YSRCP leaders have been staging unnecessary drama in the name of 'Vennupotu Dinam'. He also questioned the YSRCP leaders, what exactly is the purpose behind 'Vennupotu Dinam'. 'Is it to restart the Amaravati capital works that the YSRCP halted in the name of three capitals? Is it to secure funds for the Polavaram project or to bring the Prime Minister to Andhra Pradesh to lay the foundation for development projects worth thousands of crores?', he questioned. He further asked, 'Is it to revive the long-pending Metro Rail project or establish the Railway Zone which the YSRCP neglected? Is it to arrange a ₹12,000 crore financial package for the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), to which the former CM did not make a single attempt to protect it from privatisation?' The Bheemunipatnam MLA also dared the YSRCP leaders to come for a constructive debate on the implementation of promises made in their manifesto, instead of organising events like 'Vennupotu Dinam,' which he opined as meaningless. The MLA also criticised former CM Mr. Reddy, stating that the previous government took five years to raise pensions by just ₹1,000. He also accused the YSRCP of failing to fulfil major promises, such as liquor prohibition, the release of a job calendar, and a few others. He also stated that in the last one year, under the NDA government, several important assurances have already been implemented, including the Mega DSC recruitment drive, the revival of Anna Canteens, abolition of Land Titling Act, distribution of free LPG cylinders through the Deepam scheme, increase in pensions. He also reiterated that Chief Minister has already announced that the government will launch the 'Thalli Ki Vandanam' scheme on June 12, before the reopening of schools and also offer free bus travel for women starting August 15.

YSRCP to observe June 4 as ‘Vennupotu Dinam', highlight govt. failures

The YSRCP on Sunday (June 1) announced plans to observe June 4 as 'Vennupotu Dinam' to mark one year of the formation of the NDA government in Andhra Pradesh. As part of this, the party will hold protests various locations to highlight the government's failure over the past year. A meeting to discuss the preparations was held at the YSRCP office in Visakhapatnam, led by Visakhapatnam district YSRCP president K.K. Raju and attended by senior leaders, including former Minister and MLC Botcha Satyanarayana, Rajya Sabha MP Golla Babu Rao, MLC Varudu Kalyani and former MLA T. Nagi Reddy. During the meeting, the leaders unveiled the official poster of 'Vennupotu Dinam'. Mr. Botcha Satyanarayana urged party workers to take the NDA government's failures to the public notice. He alleged that the government completely failed to keep promises made during the elections, except for a marginal increase in pensions. 'Schemes like Thalli Ki Vandanam, Rythu Bharosa and free bus travel for women remain unfulfilled,' he said, accusing the NDA of neglecting welfare and development initiatives and instead focusing on targeting YSRCP leaders. Other party leaders echoed the statements and claimed that the public has been expressing dissatisfaction on the current government. They also said that that people are feeling deceived by the alliance parties and are beginning to regret their electoral choice.
