KUWAIT CITY, May 19: The Kuwait Basketball Federation Cup for the 2024-2025 sports season officially kicks off today, with nine local clubs vying for the title in a knockout-style tournament that runs through May 29. The first round opens with two matches featuring Al-Arabi vs. Al-Tadamon and Al-Nasr vs. Al-Sulaibikhat. Action continues the following day with three more matchups involving Kuwait Club, Yarmouk, Al-Qurain, and Kazma. Defending champion Al-Qadsia received a bye to the second round, as per the tournament draw, in recognition of its title win in the previous edition. Thamer Al-Shanfa, Secretary General of the Kuwait Basketball Federation, announced that all technical and organizational preparations have been finalized at the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Sports Complex. He anticipates strong competition, noting the intensity typically seen in single-elimination formats, especially with this being the final tournament of the season. Historically, the Federation Cup has seen seven different champions. Al-Qadsia Club leads the pack with a record 26 titles, followed by Kuwait Club with 16. Al-Arabi has claimed the cup nine times, Kazma three times, Al-Jahra twice, while Al-Sahel and Al-Nasr have each won it once.

Kuwait and Saudi Arabia friendly clashes set for February 16 & 18

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 13: Kuwait's national basketball team will play two friendly matches against Saudi Arabia on February 16 and 18 at the Basketball Federation Hall in Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Complex, as part of its preparations for upcoming competitions. Thamer Al-Shanfa, Secretary of the Basketball Federation and Head of the Training and Teams Committee confirmed that Saudi Arabia's national team (the Green Falcons) will hold a one-week training camp in Kuwait, during which it will face the Blues in two friendly encounters. Al-Shanfa also announced that Serbian head coach Oliver Kostic has selected 14 players for the two matches, including: Kuwait Club: Alexander Al-Ghais, Turki Al-Shammari, Imran Jawhar, Hamad Adnan, Musaed Al-Otaibi, Yousef Al-Hamdan Kazma: Abdulrahman Al-Sahou, Ahmed Al-Balushi Al-Qurain: Mustafa Al-Rifai, Adel Al-Saeed Al-Qadsiya: Saleh Yousef, Abdulaziz Al-Humaidi, Abdulmohsen Al-Moussawi Al-Sulaibikhat: Basil Al-Muzayel He further explained that the national team's preparation program, approved by the Training Committee, focuses on friendly matches during international breaks and extended training camps in the summer ahead of the Asian Cup qualifiers. Al-Shanfa expressed his satisfaction with the steady progress of the training plan, emphasizing that it will enhance the team's readiness for upcoming tournaments. It is worth noting that the team resumed training at the Basketball Federation Hall.
