East Bengal appoints Thangboi Singto as Head of Football
Thangboi Singto has been appointed as East Bengal's Head of Football, the Kolkata-based side announced on Wednesday.
The 50-year-old's most recent stint in Indian Football was as Hyderabad FC's (HFC) head coach, a role from which he mutually parted ways in the middle of the 2024-25 Indian Super Leagues season. This decision came almost a week after the Nizams stumbled to its eighth loss in 11 league games away at Chennaiyin FC.
Singto took over the reins of HFC in July 2023 after serving the team as an assistant coach and Technical Director (Youth) for almost a decade.
Prior to joining HFC, Singto worked as an Assistant Manager at Odisha FC and Kerala Blasters after spending four years as the Manager of Shillong Lajong.
The East Bengal men's team's season was far from ideal. It failed to make the ISL Playoffs and finished in ninth place with 28 points from 24 matches. Oscar Bruzon's side also saw its Super Cup title defence cut short after being knocked out by Kerala Blasters in its campaign opener.
On the other hand, East Bengal's women's team clinched its maiden Indian Women's League title under new head coach Anthony Andrews, and will be involved in the next edition of the AFC Women's Champions League.
