Mike Trout's Super Bowl bat message becomes a baseball card

The NFL has infiltrated the world of baseball cards, in one very specific way. Via Angels outfielder Mike Trout's inscription of the Super Bowl LIX final score on the bottom of his bat has become a baseball card. The card shows this writing from Trout: 'Eagles 40, Chiefs 22" and 'Fly Eagles Fly!' It will be included in Topps' upcoming Tier One set. Bat knob cards have become a thing in the collector industry. Which reminds us of the most popular and notorious bat-knob image of all time, when a Billy Ripken card included a glimpse of a bat knob that had two words written on it: 'Fuck Face.' And, yes, the tiebreaker when deciding whether to post a blurb about the Super Bowl bat knob message from Trout was the ability to type the phrase 'Fuck Face' for the first time ever in a PFT item.

Dolphins' Jaelan Phillips experienced "depressing and horrible feeling"

Dolphins linebacker Jaelan Phillips has had a rough couple of years: His 2023 season was cut short by a torn Achilles, and his 2024 season was cut short by a torn ACL. He says that was hard on him, not only physically but also mentally. Phillips told Dan Pompei of that talking with a therapist about his feelings has been an important part of his growth as a person during a time when he was missing more games than he played. Advertisement 'I'm an entertainer and my profession is performance-based, and it's so publicly performance-based,' Phillips said. 'It's a really depressing and horrible feeling to be hurt.' Phillips is heading into the fifth and final season of his rookie contract as a first-round pick in 2021, and he says he's hoping to earn a second contract with the Dolphins and would like to sign it before testing free agency next year. He also has goals including winning Comeback Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Walter Payton Man of the Year. And staying healthy to banish that depressing and horrible feeling of being hurt.

Dion Dawkins: Creation of award for offensive linemen part of my legacy

The NFL announced the creation of a new award during last week's league meetings. NFL executive vice president Troy Vincent announced that a panel of retired offensive linemen will determine which current offensive lineman is named the Protector of the Year each season. During the announcement, Vincent credited Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins with getting the ball rolling by noting that there was no postseason award honoring offensive linemen and Dawkins shared his pride in having a hand in making sure his fellow blockers will be getting a little more recognition in the years to come. 'It's very cool that my domino piece makes noise when it falls,' Dawkins said, via Tim Graham of 'Just to be a regular kid from Jersey, go to Temple, be a second-round pick to Buffalo, to having a voice so big that it reaches all 32 teams and then some. This is a part of my legacy now, and I stand on it.' Dawkins is a four-time Pro Bowler and he'll take his first swing at winning the award he helped create during the 2025 season.

Jordan Love: Matthew Golden looks like a very polished receiver

Wide receiver Matthew Golden has made a good early impression on Packers quarterback Jordan Love. The Packers snapped a streak of more than two decades when they selected Golden in the first round in April and Love said he was "glad to be wrong" about the direction the team would take in the draft after his early practices with the rookie wideout. Golden ran the fastest 40 at this year's Scouting Combine and Love noted his teammate's "blazing speed," but said that Golden is bringing a lot more to the table. Advertisement 'He's a great dude,' Love said, via Matt Schneidman of . 'I'm excited to see just his potential on the football field. But just the start we've had, doing routes on air and things like that, he looks like a stud, looks like a very polished receiver, so I'm excited to see just how far he can take it.' The Packers have downplayed the need for a No. 1 receiver while stockpiling wideouts over the last few years. It remains to be seen if the move for Golden changes that approach, but winning the favor of the quarterback is a step toward the top of the depth chart for the first-round pick.
