The Bella Project aims to make prom affordable for every high school student
HONOLULU (KHON2) — Brittany Montilliano, Marketing and Communications Director at YWCA Oahu, shares more information on The Bella Project and how community members can donate for the cause.'The Bella Project is a collaboration between Dress for Success Honolulu and the Patsy Center for Business and Leadership at YWCA Oʻahu. The Bella Project breaks downfinancial barriers for youth to participate in proms, winter balls, and other formal events byproviding formal attire free of charge. Throughout the year the Bella Project collects gentlyused prom attire from the community and in the spring high schoolers are invited to join usfor a special Bella Boutique Styling event where they can peruse racks of formalwear to findthe prom attire of their dreams.'
How to access Hawaiʻi's Shangri La
Hosted by the YWCA of Oahu, the organization has 125 years of experience serving community organizations in Hawaii. With The Bella Project this year, the styling event is happening this weekend – Friday, 1/31 from 3:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. and Saturday, 2/1 from 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. and will be hosted at YWCA Oahu in Downtown Honolulu across from Iolani Palace.
At the Bella Boutique, each participating high school student will be paired with a personal stylist who will assist them in browsing through a wide selection of new and very gently used dresses (or pantsuits and tuxedos) and selecting one they love and feel confident in.

'The event is open to all high school students with a valid high school ID. If interested inparticipating, they can sign up on our website at Again, weʻre soappreciative of our community's support to offer programs like the Bella Project for usyouth. Formals, like prom are milestone events for many youth. Providing them withmemories to last a lifetime. However, every year the cost to attend these events Bella Project gives young adults a boost of confidence by giving them the ability toparticipate in these special events without having to worry about the financial burden it maycause their families.'
