Celeb Traitors star Tom Daley reveals surprising amount he earned as a professional Team GB diver

OLYMPIC champion Tom Daley opened up on what he was paid while representing Team GB at international competitions. The retired diver, 31, has won five Olympic medals, including one gold, for Britain but earned below £30,000 for his efforts. 4 GB diver Tom Daley spoke about his earnings while competing Credit: Radio X 4 He made the revelations on Chris Moyles' radio show Credit: Radio X 4 Tom won five Olympic medal for Team GB Credit: Getty Tom, who is starring in the upcoming series of Celebrity Traitors revealed his Olympic salary during an interview on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X. Chris put the question to him about his wages and Tom explained there was a specific structure. "Well, kind of but it depends on how good you are. There are tiers so if you qualify for the major of the year then you get a certain amount and if you come in the top eight you get more," he said. "Then if you win an Olympic medal you get to the top tier which I think is twenty-seven a year." Chris reacted to the amount saying: "That's all you get for being a gold medallist, that's rubbish." The dad-of-two explained that he was able to earn a decent living thanks to sponsorship and endorsements, adding that athletes who don't have the same opportunities needed more support. "I'm really fortunate to have had the sponsors and that kind of stuff," he said. "But that's kind of part of the reason why you see athletes doing brand partnerships for that reason." Tom went on: " But not everyone gets the opportunity to do that which is why athletes probably need more support in that sense." The radio hosts argued "it was not a lohit of money for being best in the world." Michael Gunning talks to Tom Daley on the online abuse he faced in Jamaica "It's not a lot of money at all. Because you became famous fairly quickly, as in you were obviously diving since you were three years old or something crazy, but you've got all that fame, and you are earning twenty-seven grand a year," Chris said. "Which ain't shabby but you must have been the poorest famous person in Britain for a while." In another interview on Heart radio, Tom revealed he had done no diving since his retirement last year and can't even sit by a pool when he's on holiday with husband, Oscar-winner Dustin Lance-Black and their kids. "You know what I spent my whole life in a pool, so my idea of going on holiday and sitting in a pool is just, it's not the same. It's not the same," he told hosts Jamie Theakston and Zoe Hardman. Richard Ashcroft told Noel Gallagher he was the 'only person' who could open for Oasis

Richard Ashcroft told Noel Gallagher he was the "only person" who could open for Oasis on their reunion tour. Gallagher is reuniting with his estranged brother Liam and their bandmates to get the group back on the road this summer for series of sell-out stadium shows on the 'Oasis Live '25 Tour' and The Verve star Ashcroft will be supporting them on all of their UK and Ireland shows - and he's convinced he was the right choice because of his long history with Oasis. In an interview on 'The Chris Moyles Show' on Radio X, Ashcroft explained: "I see it as I've got a very important part to play in this. "You know, back in the day Oasis supported The Verve and then it flipped around and we supported Oasis at Earls Court, then I as a solo artist have played with Oasis. "I said to Noel: 'You know, I think I'm the only person who could go in this slot. Especially for a huge outdoor show, because everyone wants your lot. And unless you're coming with something, unless you've got something to offer, I don't know what's gonna happen'." Oasis previously opened for The Verve back in 1993 before the release of their 1994 debut album 'Definitely Maybe' and Ashcroft's band went on to support the brothers' group at The Bataclan venue in Paris, France in 1995. Ashcroft went on to perform with Oasis at gigs in Scotland in 1995 and he also sang on their track 'All Around The World' which featured on the 1997 record 'Be Here Now'. He added: "I think it's great that we're still around. I've been there almost in that whole story together with them. Right from the day one. "Before their album came out, first album [1994's 'Definitely Maybe'], seen that. They were kind of like mega successful before I was. They were on [TV show] 'Top Of The Pops'. By the time it was my turn, it was like they'd been all over it. "They sold millions of albums, blah, blah, blah, but the rarity of that, that you could have two bands, both in transits off playing to 300 people. "Both saying: 'We're gonna do this.' 'No, no we're gonna do that'. And for that to happen is incredible." Cast will also be opening for the band on the 'Oasis Live '25 Tour', which kicks off in Cardiff, Wales on July 4.

Wrexham chief sets the record straight on Tom Cairney and Jamie Vardy transfers

A senior figure at Wrexham has poured cold water on rumours linking the Hollywood-owned club with sensational moves for Premier League stars Tom Cairney and Jamie Vardy Wrexham director Humphrey Ker has set the record straight on the club's transfer business after being linked with several high-profile stars. The Red Dragons, owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, are expected to spend big in the summer transfer window after securing promotion to the Championship last month. Fulham captain Tom Cairney, Leicester striker Jamie Vardy and Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford are among the names the club is rumoured to be pursuing. Ker was quizzed specifically about the three players while appearing on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X. ‌ However, the comedian and writer appeared to pour cold water on fans' hopes of seeing them join Wrexham. Ker emphatically answered "no" when asked by Moyles if there was any truth in reports linking them to Vardy and Bamford. ‌ He then added: "Actually, I should stop doing this, because eventually you might say someone where I have to be like, 'Yes.' I will say that one of the things is that – much like Ryan Reynolds – the name Wrexham generates clicks, so we are starting now to get linked with absolutely everybody. "I'm like, 'Who?' I saw our fans getting absolutely incandescent on Twitter about it. 'What on Earth are they doing trying to sign this guy?' when none of us have heard of him before." Former BBC Radio 1 DJ Moyles then read out a message from a Fulham fan called Daniel, requesting for Ker and Wrexham to steer clear of Cairney. Ker replied: "Daniel, you got it," before adding: "I mean, he's a brilliant player, Tom Cairney, and I'm sure we'd be very grateful to have him. "But he is the very specific instance where our fans were like, 'I'm not sure about this, I don't know what they're doing. What does this mean about our transfer thing?' Like, we haven't had that conversation yet." Ker later said: "I will also say I'm a bit of a Grinch about that, because actually one most fun things about being a football fan is speculation about transfers. Why do I want to be out here crushing everyone else's good times?" ‌ Other names Wrexham have been linked with include Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O'Brien and Swansea City defender Harry Darling. As far as outgoings are concerned, star striker Paul Mullin has been linked with a shock move away from the Racecourse Ground following reported interest from Wigan Athletic. Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson announced his retained list last week, which saw the departures of veteran forward Steven Fletcher, stalwart goalkeeper Mark Howard and homegrown talent Jordan Davies. ‌ The Welsh side are preparing for life in the second tier after achieving an historic third successive promotion. Reynolds and McElhenney have previously made their goal of one day reaching the Premier League very clear. Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that the pair have taken a backseat on transfer business, with prospective players now more eager to join Wrexham than when they first took over. Wrexham chief delivers major transfer update on Jamie Vardy, Tom Cairney and Patrick Bamford The club has just achieved promotion to the Championship and have already been linked with three big transfers Jamie Vardy of Leicester City (Image: Getty Images ) Wrexham director Humphrey Ker has addressed growing speculation linking the newly-promoted club with a string of high-profile signings ahead of their return to the Championship. Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are doubtless still basking in the glow of promotion to the second tier, however they have a huge task ahead of them this summer as they try to ready the squad for a big leap up from League One. ‌ Speaking on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X, Ker firmly denied that Wrexham were targeting Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy, Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford, or Fulham captain Tom Cairney in the upcoming summer transfer window. ‌ 'Have Wrexham signed Jamie Vardy?' asked presenter Chris Moyles, reading out a fan question. Ker responded without hesitation: 'No.' Moyles followed up by asking if the club was considering a move for the former England striker, to which Ker repeated: 'No.' Article continues below When Bamford's name was brought up, Ker's response was equally direct: 'No.' Ker then joked about the barrage of transfer rumours Wrexham now attract, stating that the club's increased global visibility means they are being linked with players they've never even discussed internally. 'One of the things is that – much like Ryan Reynolds – the name Wrexham generates clicks,' Ker explained. 'We are starting now to get linked with absolutely everybody.' ‌ He added that even the club's supporters are reacting emotionally to some of the speculation, often questioning the direction of the club based on completely unfounded reports. 'I saw our fans getting absolutely incandescent on Twitter about it,' he said. 'Saying things like, 'What on Earth are they doing trying to sign this guy?!' when none of us have heard of him before!' Co-host Dominic Byrne noted that Ker would likely face a whole summer of similar speculation, to which Ker responded: 'Yes.' ‌ Later in the interview, another fan named Daniel asked the Wrexham director to 'stay away' from Fulham's Tom Cairney. Ker reassured the concerned supporter: 'Daniel, you got it.' He went on to praise Cairney as 'a brilliant player,' but admitted that the club hadn't even held internal talks about the Fulham captain. Article continues below 'He is the very specific instance where our fans were like, 'I'm not sure about this, I don't know what they're doing,'' Ker said. He made it clear that no such move was in the pipeline, saying, 'We haven't had that conversation yet.' As Wrexham prepare for life in the second tier for the first time in 19 years, Ker's comments underline the club's commitment to realistic and strategic planning — not getting swept up in transfer hype.

Wrexham rule out Jamie Vardy, Bamford & Tom Cairney signings

The Reds finished runners-up in League One this season, securing an historic third successive promotion. Back in the Championship for the first time in 43 years, Reds' boss Phil Parkinson is looking to strengthen his squad and has been linked with a host of players including experienced striker Vardy, who is leaving Leicester City where the former England international has spent the last 13 years. Speaking on the The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X alongside Dominic Byrne, community director Ker was quick to dampen speculation. Moyles: 'Can I ask you some questions from our lovely listeners?' Ker: 'Please.' Moyles: 'Alright. Alan says, 'Have Wrexham signed Jamie Vardy?'' Ker: 'No.' Moyles: 'Okay. Are you looking at Jamie Vardy?' Ker: 'No.' Moyles: 'Patrick Bamford?' Ker: 'No.' Moyles: 'Oh, okay.' Ker: 'Actually, I should stop doing this, because eventually you might say someone where I have to be like, 'Yes.' "No, I will say that obviously one of the things is that – much like Ryan Reynolds – the name Wrexham generates clicks, so we are starting now to get linked with absolutely everybody. "I'm like, 'Who?' I see people, I saw our fans getting absolutely incandescent on Twitter about it. 'What on Earth are they doing trying to sign this guy?!' when none of us have heard of him before!' Byrne: 'And you're going to get a whole summer of this, aren't you?' Ker: 'Yes.' Moyles: 'Here's another one for you. Daniel says, 'Chris, what a phenomenal story the Wrexham one is, but can you please ask Humphrey, with peace and love, to stay away from the Fulham captain Tom Cairney please.' And that's from Daniel who is a Fulham fan.' Ker: 'Daniel, you got it.' Moyles: 'Oh, okay! Jees, they're not signing anybody!' Ker: 'Well, I mean, he's a brilliant player, Tom Cairney, and I'm sure we'd be very grateful to have him. "But he is the very specific instance where our fans were like, 'I'm not sure about this, I don't know what they're doing. What does this mean about our transfer thing?'
