Lisa Kudrow Met Her Future Husband, Michel Stern, When He Was Dating Her Roommate

Friends star Lisa Kudrow has been with her husband Michel Stern for 30 years, but they are very careful about what they share in public. The French advertising executive has mostly hung back and allowed his wife to take the spotlight, though he has been at her side during some key red carpet moments. They were photographed in 2005, at the premiere of her hit HBO's series The Comeback, at the 10th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, the 58th Emmy Awards, and other big events. Here's everything there is to know about Lisa Kudrow's husband, Michel Stern. Michel Stern is French and was born and raised there, per an interview Kudrow did with The New York Times in 1995. He worked in advertising and then expanded his career in the United States. Very little is known about him publicly, but he is apparently a fan of Friends, too. When the show had their reunion special in 2021, Kudrow said of seeing her old episodes with her husband: 'Michel and I started watching some of season 4, which I thought I had watched, it's as if I didn't. He enjoys them more than I do. Because I'm mortified with myself.' They first connected years before they started dating, as he was her roommate's boyfriend. 'I was living with [a] French girl, and he had just moved here, and they were dating when we first met. But I'm freakishly polite, so I saw him and went, 'Well, he's the perfect man, and it's all ruined because now they're together and I can't [make a play for him],'' said Kudrow, according to a 2015 report from The Daily Mail. 'I thought that that's not nice, to flirt. But the minute I saw him I went, 'Well, that's it, there he is.'' Stern and Kudrow's roommate broke up six months later, but she and Stern didn't reconnect for years. 'Six years later, I met him again at her birthday party, and we just never stopped [talking],' she explained. The couple got married in 1995. In May 2020, in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel Live, she explained they were celebrating their 25-year anniversary apart because of complications with lockdown. 'We were all together in the desert because we have a house there. And then there was the lock-in, so we just stayed put,' she shared. 'But that house needed then what happened was, it got to be hotter, as it does in the Palm Springs area, right? So, it was too hot for me.' She continued, 'We are so used to not actually being able to be together on our anniversary that we were like, 'Oh, well. Does it matter? I love you. You still love me? Yeah. Great. We're good.'' Stern and Kudrow have a son, Julian Murray, whom they welcomed in 1998. He graduated from the University of Southern California in 2021, which Kudrow celebrated online. She shared some adorable family snapshots on his most recent birthday, in which Stern can be seen holding him as a baby. Kudrow's pregnancy was famously written into the show, with her character Phoebe offering to be a surrogate for her brother Frank. In 2018, she told People that the cast was super supportive of her pregnancy. 'The six of us would do a huddle backstage and just say, 'All right, have a good show, love you love you love you love you,'' she said. 'And when I was pregnant, then they would say, 'Have a great show, love you love you love you, little Julian!' 'Cause we knew it was a boy, and that was his name.' Kudrow shared relationship advice with Glamour in a 2014 interview. 'When [Michel and I] decided to get married, we understood: We're not promising to love each other forever, because you can't do that, but we are promising to work on whatever problems come up,' she began. 'We're committed to our marriage working. It turns out, after you have a history, there's such a bond, and love takes another shape. But, oh, I don't want to jinx it—I'm superstitious!' She added, '[Michel and I] respect each other's independence, and I don't mean that as a euphemism. I don't mean relationship-wise outside the marriage. Clear? But I don't like to travel. So if he wants to go on a golf trip, he goes. I think people get in trouble [when they assume they're] supposed to be one unit, in sync about everything. [Marriage] is like being on a team. Each teammate is different, but you have the same goal.'

Going down the road less travelled

How many of us ever get a chance to follow our dreams? Even rarer, to double back on life, to go back to square one, and follow a passion rather than a profession. In an India where an emphasis on bland academics, on being an engineer-doctor-lawyer-banker-civil servant still holds sway, a profession in the arts is often frowned upon. Worse still would be a profession in the performing arts: nautanki is a pejorative. In such a situation, for a banker to go back to his passion—theatre—and that too in a small town is a novel, daring idea. Annie Zaidi's The Comeback: A Novel is a story about such a person: Asghar, nearing 40, a married man, father of two daughters, and a banker in Lucknow. 'Successful' in the conventional way of middle-class India, Asghar's life receives a jolt when his best friend, the now well-known film actor John K, gives an interview. Reminiscing about college life and college theatre, John talks about Asghar doing stage productions in college, at the expense of studying for his exams. John laughingly confesses that he helped Asghar in the exams by standing outside the window and telling him the answers. And just because of that, Asghar's bank now fires him, claiming that his graduate degree is invalid. Told from the point of view of John (who is actually Jaun Kazim; 'John K' is his stage name), The Comeback takes off from this point. Asghar goes back to his hometown, the fictitious Baansa, not too far from Lucknow. Far away in Mumbai, John tries to deal with the guilt of having wrecked his friend's career. John's desperation builds when he realises how badly his carelessness has affected Asghar: not merely in a practical sense, but emotionally. John's increasingly wild attempts to get through to Asghar, to apologise, to find out what Asghar is doing (setting up a theatre company in Baansa) and to revive that old friendship play out against a backdrop of show business in Mumbai and in Baansa.

Veteran stock trader has surprising Nvidia take ahead of earnings

Business Veteran stock trader has surprising Nvidia take ahead of earnings The game is forever known as "The Comeback" and it's easy to see why. Return with us now to that thrilling day of yesteryear better known as Jan. 3, 1993. Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter U.S. President George H.W. Bush, who had just lost the White House to Bill Clinton, was in Moscow to sign the second Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty with Russian leader Boris Yeltsin. Meanwhile, the Buffalo Bills overcame a 35-3 deficit to defeat the visiting Houston Oilers 41-38 in overtime and set what then was the record for the largest comeback in National Football League history. The 32-point deficit in the game - also known as "The Choke" depending on which side of the field you were on - was surpassed by the Minnesota Vikings' 33-point run over the Indianapolis Colts during the 2022 regular season. But the Bills still hold the record for the largest comeback in postseason history and the second largest including the regular season. It was also the first time an NFL team with a lead of at least 30 points lost the game. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said it would be a 'tremendous loss' to be blocked from China's AI CEO Huang: 'We just have to stay agile' Veteran trader Ed Ponsi sees a potential comeback scenario for Nvidia (NVDA) , which is scheduled to report earnings on May 28. Analysts are looking for earnings of 83 cents a share on $43.28 billion in revenue. Not too long ago, Nvidia was riding so high it looked like nothing could stop the AI-chip steamroller. The Santa Clara, Calif., company's stock more than tripled (up 238%) in 2023, followed by a 171% rally in 2024. "Those massive gains made the stock immensely popular, leading to an intense focus by investors," Ponsi said in his TheStreet Pro column. This year "has been less kind to the AI-chip maker. Nvidia shares are down 17.71% year to date. The stock is underperforming all of the major U.S. stock indexes." Nvidia's troubles started in January with the arrival of a cost-effective artificial-intelligence model from the Chinese startup DeepSeek, which sparked concerns about big tech companies overspending on data centers and Nvidia chips. More Nvidia: Then tech conglomerate Huawei said it planned to start testing a highly anticipated AI chip that it touted as a rival to Nvidia's H100, a graphics processing unit used by companies such as Tesla (TSLA) and Meta Platforms (META) . Nvidia also got caught up in President Donald Trump's global tariff net. The company's reliance on Taiwan for chip manufacturing makes it vulnerable to geopolitical tensions and potential retaliation from China. The Trump administration restricted the shipment of Nvidia's H20 chips to China without a license last month, leading the company to plan a $5.5 billion quarterly charge. However, the White House is expected to reveal its new AI diffusion rule on May 15, and will likely outline AI-policy changes that favor Nvidia and its peers "Looking at the stock's chart, one question emerges," Ponsi said. "Is Nvidia about to regain its crown as the most coveted stock in the market?" Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said in a May 6 interview with CNBC that it would be a "tremendous loss" to be blocked from China's AI market. Veteran trader sees signs of Nvidia comeback "We just have to stay agile," Huang said. "Whatever the policies are of the government, whatever is in the best interest of our country, we'll support." Nvidia's co-founder was in Las Vegas for software company ServiceNow's NOW 2025 conference. The companies said they'd expand their partnership, which includes the debut of the ServiceNow reasoning model, Apriel Nemotron 15B, developed with Nvidia. Huang said China's artificial intelligence market will likely reach about $50 billion in the next two to three years Being able to sell into China would bring back revenue and taxes, and would "create lots of jobs here in the United States," Huang said. Piper Sandler warned that Nvidia could lose up to 6.45% of its important data-center revenue if companies cut back on spending, according to TipRanks. This could mean about $9.8 billion in lost revenue if corporate capital expenditures shrink and demand from China stays weak. In the worst-case scenario, the investment firm said, Nvidia's share price could drop to about $76.25 if the revenue loss happens. Related: Nvidia CEO sounds the alarm on Chinese rival If, however, corporate spending returns to normal and China demand picks up, the shares could rise to around $126. Piper Sandler affirmed its overweight rating on Nvidia with a $150 price target. Ponsi said that signs of an Nvidia comeback are beginning to emerge. "Since the April 7 opening bell, Nvidia has gained 23%," he said. "The stock is trading above its 50-day moving average for the first time since late February." Semiconductor stocks in general are on the rebound, he said, with the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index, like Nvidia, climbing above its 50-day moving average for the first time since February. Ponsi said Nvidia would face obstacles along the way. Nvidia's 200-day moving average currently lies in wait near $125 and there's a bearish trendline also residing in that vicinity. "If Nvidia can demonstrate the necessary strength to break through that area, the door is open to $140 - and possibly higher," he said. "Nvidia's all-time closing high is $149, set on Jan. 6." Messi, Mascherano draw on historic Barcelona comeback as Inter Miami faces Vancouver

Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano is well aware that his star-studded team, led by Lionel Messi, finds itself in a seemingly insurmountable situation heading into the second leg of the Champions Cup semifinal against the Vancouver Whitecaps on Wednesday night. Miami lost the first leg 2-0 on the road last week and must win by three goals in regulation to advance to the championship game. A 2-0 Miami win would send the match to extra time and potentially penalties. If Vancouver scores even one goal in regulation, a Miami winning margin of two or less would not be enough. Vancouver would get the edge because away goals are the tiebreaker (Note: that rule does not apply in extra time). History is on Vancouver's side. Inter Miami is the fourth MLS team to lose a semifinal first leg by a 2-0 score on the road and none of the other three overcame the deficit. Despite all the odds stacked against Miami, Mascherano insisted he was highly confident his team could pull off the comeback as he fielded questions from the media on the eve of the 8 p.m. match (FS1, TUDN). He reminded reporters that Miami mounted a dramatic three-goal comeback against LAFC to escape the quarterfinals. 'Against LAFC, we scored three goals in the final 60 minutes, this time we have 90 minutes to score three goals,' Mascherano said. 'Obviously, we'd rather be in another situation, but it's futbol. 'Look at what happened to us [Sunday] against Dallas. We had it 3-1, there was no sign that the game would get away from us, and in five minutes they tied it and then they win and we ended up with nothing. Anything is possible.' Nobody knows that better than Mascherano, Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, who were part of one of the greatest comebacks in modern soccer history as FC Barcelona teammates. On Mar. 8, 2017, Barcelona overcame a four-goal deficit in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 against Paris Saint-Germain to win 6-5 on aggregate, the largest comeback in Champions League history. PSG won the first leg 4-0 in Paris and seemed a lock to advance. But with a Camp Nou crowd of 96,290 looking on, Suarez scored in the third minute to give Barcelona the lead. A PSG own goal doubled Barca's lead. Messi scored on a PK at the 50-minute mark to make it 3-0. Edison Cavani closed the gap to 3-1, but then Barcelona scored three unanswered goals. Neymar scored on a free kick in the 88th minute and a made it 5-1 on a controversial penalty kick when Suarez fell in the first minute of added time. That still would not have been enough, but in the waning seconds of the match, Sergi Roberto scored the sixth goal to push Barcelona through. The miraculous result became known as 'La Remontada' (The Comeback). 'That night I learned that nothing is impossible,' Mascherano said. 'Anything can happen. Absolutely anything. We were losing 4-0…until the referee blows the whistle, anything can happen. I can try to relay that as a coach, but I had four teammates who are on this team now and they can, better than anyone, relay that to the rest of the players.' He said elite athletes live for these types of high-pressure games. 'If there is anything athletes like, it's living with this kind of pressure,' Mascherano said. 'It's the reason we play, for the chance to compete and face adversity and try to turn things around. Yes, there is pressure and responsibility, but real pressure is other things in life. This type of pressure, if you know how to manage it, can be positive for us. I am fully convinced we have a chance to advance.' Center back Maxi Falcon echoed his coach's sentiments. 'We are confident we can reverse the result of the first leg,' he said. 'It will be difficult, and there is no margin for error. But if we do a good job, we can move on. In futbol we have short memories. We lost the last match, but we're at home now. It's about making plays for 90 minutes.' The Whitecaps enter Wednesday's game with momentum after going unbeaten in their last four matches with two wins and two ties. Inter Miami, over that same stretch, tied Chicago 0-0, beat Columbus 1-0, and suffered back-to-back losses against Vancouver and Dallas by a combined score of 6-3. Messi, Suarez, Busquets and Alba sat out the Dallas game to rest for Wednesday, as did several other regular starters. Vancouver manager Jesper Sorensen also made eight changes to his starting XI in Sunday's match at Minnesota. Asked whether Busquets would play a more offensive role against Vancouver in an effort to create more scoring chances for Messi, Mascherano replied: 'Busi will play like Busi. He has complete freedom. Nobody knows better how to play center midfield. We don't have to do anything crazy. Nothing unusual. The fridge is in the kitchen and the sofa in the living room. There is no need to invent things. One or two losses won't change my perspective. I believe in what we do.' Callender injury update Goalkeeper Drake Callender, who started against Dallas after missing much of the season with an adductor injury, felt discomfort in that same area after the match and will not be available Wednesday. Mascherano said Callender will see a specialist. Gressel signed by Minnesota United Inter Miami midfielder Julian Gressel was acquired by Minnesota United off waivers, both clubs announced Tuesday. Gressel is under contract through December of 2026, with a club option for 2027. 'I'm really excited to be here at Minnesota United and to get integrated into the group,' Gressel said. 'I can't wait to get started with the guys and continue the momentum that has been established within the team.' 'We welcome Julian and his family to Minnesota and are excited for him to join our team,' said MNUFC Chief Soccer Officer Khaled El-Ahmad. 'Julian brings an impressive depth of MLS experience and championship pedigree to Minnesota. He is a proven winner and competitor and our hope is that he will contribute those qualities to our team and continue to push our club forward throughout the rest of this season and beyond.' Gressel joined Inter Miami in 2024, played 32 games and nine assists. He played a vital role with the Miami squad that won the 2024 MLS Supporters' Shield trophy, but had not played in any of the league games this season.

Inside Inter Miami: Messi sparks comeback; another MLS draw; long travel week ahead

Inter Miami promotional material called it 'The Comeback.' The team then backed it up, rallying for a dramatic 3-1 victory over LAFC in the Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinals last Wednesday, which helped the club advance on aggregate score, 3-2. Lionel Messi scored twice to lead the effort, which moved Inter Miami into the semifinals and into another two-game set April 24 and 30 against the Western Conference-leading Vancouver Whitecaps. But…the team didn't look nearly as sharp four days later during its game at Chicago, in which Messi, Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets all started with Jordi Alba entering off the bench. The result was a scoreless draw, and the second consecutive draw in league play for Miami, which meant it has now slipped to fourth place in the East. We have reactions from goalkeeper Oscar Ustari and coach Javier Mascherano following those games. Hosts Michelle Kaufman and Andre Fernandez discuss these two results and the big picture of where the team stands as they prepare to take on the leaders of each MLS Conference over the next week and a half. Because, oh yeah, Inter Miami also has a trip this Saturday to face Eastern Conference-leading Columbus in Cleveland before an expected crowd of 67,000. This before the trip to Vancouver on April 24 against a team that's off to its best start in club history at 6-1-1 with one of MLS' top scorers in Brian White, who is coming off a four-goal game. The Whitecaps have scored a league-high 17 goals in league play and 26 across all competitions. ▪ Also, why were Julian Gressel and Robert Taylor left off the game roster for the Chicago trip? ▪ And Messi recently bought four units in an 80-story downtown Miami condo due to open in 2028. It looks like he's here for the long haul. We discuss. ▪ Remember, you can watch this show on YouTube and on our site at The podcast is available on Spotify, Apple podcasts, and most other platforms where you listen to your pods.
