Toll rises for Tamar Bridge and Torpoint ferry

The Secretary of State for Transport has approved increased charges for the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry. Tolls will rise for all vehicles, with fares for cars and vans to go up from £2.60 to £3.00, and fares for Tamar Tag holders to rise from £1.30 to £1.50. The decision was reached after a public inquiry was held before an independent inspector on 15 October 2024 at The Copthorne Hotel, Armada Way, Plymouth. The Department for Transport said in a letter that the Secretary of State Heidi Alexander MP "is satisfied that the proposed toll revisions are justified". It added she agreed with the inspector's conclusions "that without a toll increase, the services would not be sustainable and that the proposed increases are necessary to ensure the continued operation of the crossings". It will still cost the same to use either the Tamar Bridge or the Torpoint Ferry except for solo motorcycles. Fares for these will rise from 50p to £1 on the Torpoint Ferry, but they will remain free on the Tamar Bridge. Follow BBC Cornwall on X, Facebook and Instagram.
