Man killed in shooting at Federal Way, WA apartment complex

The Brief A 20-year-old man was fatally shot at a Federal Way apartment complex on Thursday afternoon. Police are investigating the incident and seeking information from the public. Updates on the investigation will be provided as the story develops. FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Federal Way police say a Seattle man is dead after he was shot in the parking lot of a large apartment complex. It happened at around 3:30 in the afternoon at The Cove Apartments, near Southwest 330th Street. A neighbor who was working from home said he heard one shot and called for help after seeing the victim on the ground. Neighbors also reported seeing a car speeding away following the shooting. "I was just sitting there I heard a pop. Took my headphones off. My cat ran into the back room," said Giovanni Shull, a neighbor who lives at The Cove Apartments. Shull was working from home Thursday when the victim was shot and killed in the middle of the afternoon, right outside his window. "I looked out my window. There was a car, a black car, that was just sitting there, it pulled away and there was a guy just laying there," said Shull. When he realized that somebody was hurt, he sprang into action. "I opened up my door and yelled out, 'Hey, somebody call 911,' and I called them myself," said Shull. Other neighbors also reported hearing a boom or pop around the same time, and also called police. Shull ran outside and tried to check on the victim, but it didn't look good. "I asked if he was ok, but he was not responsive," said Shull. Though neighbors say police and medics were on the scene quickly, a spokesperson for the department says they could not save his life. "He didn't look very good when I saw him and I don't think anyone knew him, I've never seen him before," said Shull. Shull believes overall the area is safe, adding that he's never seen anything like that happen before at The Cove Apartments complex. "It was a little fast, I was a little shaken up I guess," he said. Federal Way Police say the victim was a Hispanic man in his 20s. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Federal Way Police at 253-835-2121, or submit an anonymous tip via Crime Stoppers.
