Volusia deputies: Overnight shootings send teen to hospital

Volusia deputies are investigating two late night shootings, one of which sent a 16-year-old to the hospital, authorities said Sunday. The first shooting took place just before midnight Saturday at a house on Kings Ridge Terrace in Deltona, deputies stated. According to a sheriff's office Facebook post, a resident said he was outside his house when he was approached by a subject with a gun. The resident fled into the house and locked the door. The Facebook posts states a second subject reportedly fired at least one shot at the residence from the street before both suspects left the scene. No injuries were reported, deputies stated. The second shooting occurred around 12:30 a.m. Sunday in the 1700 block of North Woodland Boulevard in DeLand, according to the Facebook post. A passing driver reported hearing several gunshots, followed by the shattering of his vehicle's rear window. A 16-year-old passenger in the back seat realized he had been grazed in the head and was transported to the hospital, where he was later listed in stable condition with minor injuries, according to deputies. An initial investigation by deputies indicates that the shot came from two people on foot in a nearby parking lot along North Woodland. The Facebook post goes on to say that deputies are pursuing leads. This article originally appeared on The Daytona Beach News-Journal: Deputies say separate shootings in Deltona, DeLand injure teen

Arrest made in shooting of teen who was headed home after a graduation party

A DeLand man accused of shooting into a car and grazing a 16-year-old boy in the head while he was heading home from a graduation party was arrested Wednesday, according to the Volusia Sheriff's Office. Travis Fowler, 25, who was tracked down through a food stamp card he used at a gas station, was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail on charges of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, shooting into an occupied vehicle, and providing false information to law enforcement. He was being held on Thursday without bail. The injured teen was struck in the head by the stray bullet after midnight on Sunday. He is continuing to recover from his injury, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said. Court records show Fowler has been arrested for burglaries at apartment complexes in Daytona Beach. He served four years' probation for the burglaries, which he completed in July 2024. Volusia County deputies said Fowler was arguing with a group at an apartment complex in the 1700 block of North Woodland Boulevard and fired a gun. The bullet, in addition to striking the teen, also shattered the rear window of the vehicle. The boy's family was also in the car, according to deputies. Deputies used video surveillance recordings from near the scene and canvassed the area. Investigators found more surveillance camera recordings of Fowler at a nearby gas station where he used his EBT card, the sheriff's office said. Fowler, who was arrested after deputies spotted him leaving his apartment complex, had a suspended driver's license and was driving a car with an incorrect tag, investigators said. Fowler said he was in Orlando the night of the shooting, but deputies showed him the video footage placing him at the gas station just before the shooting, the Facebook post said. Palm Coast man hiding in attic crashes through ceiling in K-9 closes in

A wanted man literally dropped in on a group of Flagler County Sheriff's Office deputies Monday, May 26: He crashed through the ceiling of a home. Deputies were searching a house when they discovered the man hiding in the attic. As a K-9 climbed into the attic, the man took a wrong step and crashed through the ceiling, leaving a ragged hole. "Hey, you should've just come out, man — that would have been easier," a deputy told the man as he was led away in handcuffs. And it would have saved the cost of repairing the ceiling. Tarod Lovell Weaver, 37, was charged with obstruction without violence and false name/ID given to a law enforcement officer, according to a charging affidavit. He was released on $2,000 bond. On Monday, deputies went to the duplex on Pine Haven Drive with an out-of-county warrant for Weaver. A woman at the door asked why they wanted to talk to her son, according to a charging affidavit. She closed the front door, saying she would get him. Shortly after, deputies found a man with the woman at the rear of the residence. The man gave them a name, but deputies later discovered it was a false identity. Deputies surrounded the house to prevent Weaver from fleeing. Subsequently, the woman and a couple of others walked out the front door. They all claimed not to know where Weaver was, the affidavit stated. The woman consented to deputies searching the house. During the search, deputies found Weaver hiding in the attic, the affidavit stated, and sent a K-9 up to into the attic. "Let me see your hands (and) you won't get bit," a deputy said. Another warns Weaver that the dog is about to drag him out of the attic. But before the dog reached Weaver, he stepped in the wrong spot, according to a body camera video. Weaver then crashed through the ceiling to the floor of the porch, the affidavit stated. A jagged hole was left in the ceiling. A woman, apparently a resident, asked "Who's going to fix that?" Said a deputy: "Not us." This article originally appeared on The Daytona Beach News-Journal: Palm Coast man falls through ceiling as sheriff's K-9 nears

Washington state man locked up without bail for threatening to kill Sheriff Mike Chitwood

A Washington State man who doesn't approve of Sheriff Mike Chitwood's public shaming of children arrested for making threats against schools was arrested after sending a letter saying he was going to kill him, an arrest report shows. "Do you know what the Internet does with children you expose?" Matthew Moulton, 45, of College Place, Washington, wrote to the sheriff. "They put them in AI and make child porn with them." Moulton was extradited to Volusia County and booked into the jail on Wednesday on a charge of written threat to kill or do bodily injury. He was locked up on Thursday without bail. Chitwood was at the airport to greet Moulton on his arrival in Florida in handcuffs. According to investigators, Moulton sent the threatening letter to Chitwood on March 20. In his letter, Moulton also accused Chitwood of threatening his First Amendment rights. "I am going to have to threaten you with death. It's coming," Moulton told Chitwood in the letter. "There is nothing you can do to stop it." Moulton, who called himself a Patriot, included a YouTube link in the letter that showed a collection of video footage where Chitwood is shown taking a stand against Neo-Nazis, publicly talking about death threats he had received, and threatening parents with perp-walking their children for making bogus school shooting threats. Volusia County deputies, assisted by the College Place Police Department, located Moulton at his mother's home in Washington, the report said. NASCAR Driver Power Rankings: No. 1 is obvious. Who fills out Top 10 before All-Star Race?

The top of this list is a pretty easy slot to fill. The rest? Not so much. Let's take a look at our updated NASCAR Power Rankings as we head into All-Star weekend with one-third of the 2025 Cup Series season behind us. 1. Kyle Larson Kyle Larson will spend much of the next two weekends charming the locals in Indy. Kind of a no-brainer, wouldn't you say? About all he can't do right now is control the Indy weather, and boy does he wish he could. 2. Christopher Bell A strong second at Kansas, but second. Don't count the superspeedways, and a 29th at Homestead is his only misstep of the year. 3. Ryan Blaney . Gaining on a trophy. Had back-to-back podium finishes at Texas and Kansas. 4. William Byron Had a rare bad finish last week. Lost official points lead to Larson. 5. Chase Elliott Might win All-Star Race. Might not. Billy Clyde needs to win somewhere, though. 6. Joey Logano We're not banking on an All-Star repeat. Won last year's All-Star Race. He won't repeat. 7. Denny Hamlin Last three finishes: 21st, 38th, 36th. 8. Ross Chastain Middle name is Lee. Some literally think it's "The Boss". 9. Chase Briscoe Not a name dropper, but a name collector. Here's a guy with TWO middle names: Chase David Wayne Briscoe. 10. Chris Buescher After three weeks in the wilderness, returned to top 10 at Kansas. This article originally appeared on The Daytona Beach News-Journal: NASCAR driver rankings: Guess who tops our list. Yes, Kyle Larson
