The British skaters bringing some Beyonce flair to the ice
Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson have made history by becoming the first British figure skating world medallists since 1984! The pair picked up a bronze medal on Saturday at the World Championships in hit the ice with thier Beyonce-medley free routine and the crowd in the arena were loving it. Former Olympic champions and Dancing on Ice judges Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean were the last British pair to claim a World Championship medal back in the 80s. They have described the pair as "taking ice dancing in Great Britain to another level".So have they inspired you to give the high-octane, high-risk sport a go? Ice dancing routines are often performed to classical music but a rule change in 2014 has meant competitors can now use music with lyrics. Lilah and Lewis have taken full advantage of the move and included Madonna, Chic and Lady Gaga in their list of music choices. They've even became known as "The Disco Brits" in the skating community! Lewis Gibson said: "A lot of the routines of recent times have been very slow and lyrical, but we wanted to do something fun and something that would stand out to help us make a name for ourselves."It's so much easier to skate with a smile on your face to that kind of music. There is a show side to it, just like Dancing On Ice."And that is exactly where Lewis first discovered the sport at the age of 11. "They just looked to be having so much fun," he told BBC Sport previously. "I knew it was something I wanted to do."
