The Dukes of Hazzard Star Rick Hurst Passes Away at 79
Noted TV actor Rick Hurst has reportedly passed away. Hurst had an extensive career predominantly on television, though he did appear in several movies. He is best known for playing Deputy Cletus Hogg in the CBS show The Dukes of Hazzard and other associated projects. Rick Hurst passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2025, in Los Angeles, California, at 79. His first wife, Candace Kaniecki, confirmed the news to TMZ and told the outlet that the death was unexpected. The cause of his death remains unknown. Hurst is survived by his sons Ryan, who is also an actor, and Colin. Hurst earlier canceled a scheduled appearance at the Cooter's Place museum in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. After his passing, the establishment put out a post on Facebook, which reads, 'Our hearts are broken!!! You will be missed!!!' Messages of condolences have poured in for Hurst's loved one. His former The Dukes of Hazzard co-star, Ben Jones, said in a statement, 'It doesn't seem right that Rick Hurst passed away this afternoon. When something so unexpected happens, it is 'harder to process,' as the current expression goes.' Jones noted that he and Hurst had known each other for 45 years and that 'there wasn't a minute of that time that he didn't leave me smiling or laughing.' He added, 'Sure he was a professional comedian, but mostly he just had a heart as big as Texas. He was a fine actor, a splendid comic, and a wonderfully supportive colleague.' Hurst's portrayal of Deputy Cletus Hogg in The Dukes of Hazzard received critical acclaim. He also played the role in The Dukes of Hazzard: Reunion! (1997) and The Dukes of Hazzard: Hazzard in Hollywood (2000). His other notable TV credits include Amanda's, Highway to Heaven, The Wonder Years, and more. Time after time we've seen builds christened with the iconic orange and infamous flag. The number 01 has graced the doors of many a Charger in the past. However, never have we seen a build with such attention to detail as this vehicle. With a slew of cool features including a signature from one of the original cast members from the original 1976 Television show The Dukes Of Hazzard. Watch the latest Motorious Podcast here. First up is the engine, under the hood of this wicked orange demon is the famous Mopar 440ci V8. This engine was pushing somewhere in the realm of 390 horsepower brand new. Needless to say, this was an incredible amount in 1969 when the car was built. However, this was not good enough for the current owner and he rebuilt the old 440 and upgraded the camshaft. What was once a 390 horsepower engine is now an absolute powerhouse that rips the back tires with the force of 500 ponies! One five-speed manual transmission companies that engine, as it should, and sends the power straight to the 8-¾ rear end with 3.55 gears. All of that horsepower is made usable with the help of a fully revamped suspension. Some of the aforementioned suspension modifications include a new front suspension courtesy of Firm Feel, stiffeners, and a rear sway bar from Hotchkis Suspension. Another awesome aspect of this 1969 Dodge Charger is the fact that it is signed by John Schneider who played the original 'Bo Duke' in The Dukes Of Hazzard. After seeing this car our jaws dropped with excitement. While the car is quite expensive with the asking price sitting at $100,000, it is still a pretty sweet ride.
