Child killed by falling boulder at Tahoe-area ski resort identified
( — The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner's office identified the child who died after being hit by a falling boulder on Saturday at Diamond Peak Ski Resort.
The medical examiner identified the 7-year-old as Adelyn Grimes of Reno.
The resort said their Diamond Peak Ski Patrol was first to respond to the scene around 3:38 p.m. on Saturday and immediately attended to the child. The Washoe County Sheriff's Office and North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection also responded to the accident.
The child was pronounced dead at the resort due to 'blunt force injuries of the neck and chest,' according to the medical examiner. The death was deemed accidental, officials family of Adelyn Grimes created a GoFundMe and is seeking the public's help.
'There was no foul play involved and the Sheriff's office extends our deepest condolences to all involved,' the Washoe County Sheriff's office said.
Diamond Peak Ski Resort provided Fox40 with the following statement:
The entire Diamond Peak Ski Resort family has been deeply affected by a tragedy that occurred Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the resort. We would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the child involved, to the members of the Sugar Bowl race team, and to the entire Lake Tahoe ski racing community, all of whom have been profoundly saddened by the accident.

The Far West U-12 Championship ski races took place this weekend at Diamond Peak Ski Resort. Sugar Bowl ski team among other local ski teams competed in the races.
Counseling and support resources are being made available to affected staff.
The Washoe County Sheriff's office will investigate.
