NCC unveils new Westboro Beach area now open to the public
The NCC unveiled the new Westboro Beach pavilion on Sunday, June 1, 2025 (Josh Marano/CTV News Ottawa) The National Capital Commission has reopened Westboro Beach as part of a multi-million-dollar redevelopment project. On Sunday, the NCC officially unveiled its new year-round pavilion, restaurant and café. The new Westboro Beach area also features a scenic lookout of the Ottawa River, picnic and volleyball spaces, accessible washrooms/change rooms and outdoor showers. The pavilion and café are now open to the public but certain amenities remain closed. Ottawa pizzeria The Grand with a location in the ByWard Market is slated to open once final construction work finishes. (Josh Marano/CTV News Ottawa) 'The NCC's design excellence and innovation are on full display at Westboro Beach, where nature, community and history come together,' said NCC CEO Tobi Nussbaum in a news release. 'With the community's engagement and support, we were able to deliver a project that enhances the shoreline in the west end, and is emblematic of our commitment to creating sustainable, accessible and vibrant public spaces in the National Capital Region.' The beach closed to the public in 2022 but was open to unsupervised swimming as construction took place. The project is projected to cost $21 million, including a $13 million contribution from the City of Ottawa, the NCC says. The redevelopment was part of a 2015 agreement between the NCC and the city for the western extension of the LRT Confederation Line and the creation of a new waterfront park.

New Delhi: The Miss Universe India 2025 pageant is now in full swing, with state-level competitions taking place across India. Known as one of the biggest and most respected beauty pageants in the country, this year's event has attracted over 50,000 participants. Finalists from more than 30 cities are competing in over 25 state contests. A total of 51 finalists will be chosen to compete in the grand finale, which will be held in July. The winner will represent India at the Miss Universe global event. The pageant includes auditions, grooming sessions, talent rounds, and panel talks on social issues. Contestants will also take part in various challenges before the final round. Here are some of the upcoming key events: June 2: Miss Universe Madhya Pradesh at Empire Hotel, Bhopal (7 PM onwards) June 4: Joint finale for Miss Universe Delhi, Haryana, and Uttarakhand at The Grand, Vasant Kunj, Delhi (8 PM onwards) June 7: Miss Universe Himachal Pradesh at Baantalai Resort, Hamirpur (6 PM onwards) Each participant is being trained by a team of stylists, makeup artists, choreographers, and designers to help them prepare for the big stage. Miss Universe India has a history of producing international winners. Sushmita Sen made history in 1994 as the first Indian to win Miss Universe, and Harnaaz Sandhu brought the crown home again in 2021. Sushmita Sen recently celebrated the 31st anniversary of her win on Instagram. She shared, "21st May 1994 #Manila. A historical win that introduced an 18yr old Indian girl to the Universe!!! Warehouse by Mudita announces first ever 'Pret Edit' fashion exhibition
Fashion exhibition platform Warehouse by Mudita will host its first ever edition of 'The Pret Edit ' in Delhi on May 16. The business to customer event will bring together over 40 designer labels with all collections priced under Rs 30,000. The one-day showcase will be held at The Grand in Delhi's Vasant Kunj and aims to make premium prêt-à-porter fashion more accessible, the event organiser announced in a press release. Shoppers can browse pieces from designers such as Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna, Masaba, Ranna Gill, S&N by Shantnu Nikhil, Payal Pratap, Tasva by Tarun Tahiliani, Nitin Bal Chauhan, and Rococo by Raghvi, with discounts of up to 70% on retail prices. As temperatures rise, it's not just a hint you might need to up your deodorant game — it's also a sign that concert season will take center stage for the months ahead. Here are some 11 hot and sweaty concerts in Delaware folks are looking forward to in May. Best known as a drummer for the 1960s pop icons The Monkees, veteran artist Micky Dolenz will swing into Wilmington to headline a solo show. More than just a drummer and singer, Dolenz is also an actor ("General Hospital," "The Drew Carey Show" and Days of Our Lives") and director ("Boy Meets World"), per his bio. The Grand (818 N. Clifford Brown Jazz Festival 2025: Adds legendary family band with beast bassist Only a few tickets are left for this concert with iconic Yes frontman Jon Anderson. The singer will bring his Rock & Roll Hall of Fame pedigree to Small Wonder where he'll team up with The Band Geeks, as part of their "Yes, Epics, Classics and More" tour. Their sound garden will host over 20 acts across three days, including performances by notables like Emerson Hart of Tonic, Johnny Phat from Mr. Greengeenes, Nine Days and Dylan Schneider, plus Sug Daniels and Olivia Rubini of "The Voice," both of whom hail from the First State. The band's fans adore these Amish rebels, especially when they play Paradise Grill. For newcomers, the Outlaws are a cover band that wears Amish outfits. There's also the legendary Ladybug Music Festival, offering 30-plus performers including headliner Margaret Glaspy. The singer-songwriter has drawn attraction from The New York Times and Rolling Stone, NPR and others. Other standout acts on the festival's ticket include Martha Wash, Koser, AE The Cool, Wendy Logan Band, Eljuri, Chelsea Reed and the Fair Weather Band, The Wild Hymns and more. Multiple stages will be held in downtown Wilmington on Market Street like Main Stage and the 5th Street Stage. There will be other stages at locations such as The Queen, Willingtown Square, The Quoin, Merchant Bar, Hulex and Hiro. Launched in 2012, Ladybug Festival has been branded as the country's largest free celebration of women in music. The festival has built a unique reputation for featuring 100% female-fronted acts.
