A new trailer for The Conjuring: Last Rites has confirmed that the film will explore the Smurl Haunting . This case involved reported paranormal events at a family home in West Pittston, Pennsylvania, over a 15-year period. The film is expected to focus on the year 1986, when the Warrens became 1974 and 1989, Jack and Janet Smurl claimed that a demon haunted their home. They said it created loud sounds and strong odors. It was also accused of physical violence. The family reported their dog was thrown into a wall. Their mattress was said to shake. One of their daughters was allegedly pushed down stairs. Some family members said they were physically and sexually harmed by the 1986, Ed and Lorraine Warren joined the investigation. Ed said the demon was strong. He also described cold air and a dark shadow inside the house. At one point, a message appeared on a mirror telling him to leave.
