Watch: Vipul Rikhi brings Kabir's teachings amid India-Pakistan tensions

On the second and final day of The Hindu Huddle held at Taj West End, Bengaluru, on Saturday, the air was heavy with discussions of the pressing India-Pakistan military conflict. Across multiple sessions, prominent speakers dissected political strategies, diplomatic manoeuvres, and the national mood in the face of escalating tensions. Yet amidst these high-stakes conversations, a different session stood out; not because it ignored the central issue, but because it offered a parallel, wider lens to look at it. In 'Beyond Love and Hate: Kabir's Message of Non-Duality,' poet, translator, singer, and storyteller Vipul Rikhi brought the 15th-century mystic Kabir into the heart of contemporary geopolitical anxieties. Vipul acknowledged upfront the importance of addressing the political realities of today. However, he gently urged the audience to also 'zoom out', to hold both the immediacy of current events and the timeless perspective that great poetry and wisdom traditions offer. Read more

Watch: The new forces shaping subcontinental geopolitics

Former president and prime minister of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe has mooted the idea of India taking a lead in ensuring the emergence of South Asia as the 'most powerful region'. Participating in a session titled 'In the hood: The new forces shaping subcontinental geopolitics' at the fifth edition of The Hindu Huddle organised by The Hindu Group, in Bengaluru, Mr. Wickremesinghe observed that the South Asian region would account for a population size of 2.7 billion in the total world population of 9.8 billion while its combined economy would be around 43 billion dollars. T. S. Tirumurti, former permanent representative of India to the United Nations, said India should take a geopolitical role that goes beyond the sub-continent. The sooner we do it, he said, the more important it will be. The session was hosted by Suhasini Haidar, The Hindu's Diplomatic Affairs editor. Watch: Revanth Reddy highlights Centre-State disparity, seeks equity in resources

At The Hindu Huddle in Bengaluru, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy raised strong concerns about the ongoing delimitation exercise, warning that it could disadvantage southern States that implemented population control measures. In a conversation with Ravikanth Reddy, Political Editor, Telangana, The Hindu, the CM proposed a 33% seat allocation for the South and questioned the Centre's approach to federal equity. Mr. Reddy also discussed Telangana's caste census model, reforms in residential schooling, and the state's proactive approach to agriculture, women's welfare, and foreign investments. He outlined plans for a fourth city around Hyderabad and infrastructure developments aimed at making Telangana globally competitive. 'We still have to fight' - Shantha Rangaswamy, Mithali Raj and Shreyanka Patil on women's cricket at The Hindu Huddle

Stars from three generations — Shantha Rangaswamy, Mithali Raj, and Shreyanka Patil — engaged in a lively discussion at The Hindu Huddle on Friday on the growth of women's cricket in India. Shantha, the first Indian women's team captain, spoke about her pioneering role. 'We laid the foundation. We may not have seen the likes of Mithali and Shreyanka if we had faltered in the initial stages. What drove us was the passion for the game,' Shantha said in a session titled 'No Boundaries: Growth of Women's Cricket in India', moderated by K.C. Vijaya Kumar, Sports Editor, The Hindu. In a glittering international career, which spanned over two decades, Mithali moved the needle in terms of popularising women's cricket. Mithali said the turning point for the sport came in 2006, when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took control of women's cricket. 'In my early days, when the Women's Cricket Association of India (WCAI) ran the sport, the financial aspect was not great. It was a struggle to get investors and endorsements for us to have an international series. Coming under the BCCI was huge, because that opened access to better infrastructure, resources, equipment, and domestic structure,' Mithali said. Coming under the BCCI umbrella gave Mithali and others access to top-class facilities like the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. At the NCA, interactions between women cricketers and stalwarts like Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid proved to be invaluable. 'When you have a dialogue with the likes of Sachin and Dravid, you learn a lot,' Mithali said.
