Billy Joel's Albums Surge Back To The Charts Following His Major Announcement

Billy Joel's albums The Hits and The Stranger reenter the Billboard 200 after the piano player ... More canceled all upcoming shows following his diagnosis. LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - NOVEMBER 09: Billy Joel performs at Allegiant Stadium on November 09, 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by) Billy Joel has been a major touring force for many years, which seems to have appeased many longtime lovers of his work, as he disappointingly no longer releases music as frequently as he once did. Sadly, the superstar is stepping away from all scheduled performances, which have been canceled for the foreseeable future. This sweeping move follows a May announcement revealing that he has been diagnosed with a condition called normal pressure hydrocephalus, which can affect everything from vision and hearing to balance, making it unsafe for him to perform live. Fans of Joel are understandably disappointed they won't be seeing him play anytime soon, but they don't seem to be complaining. Instead, they're showing their love by returning to his music. Just days ago, Joel didn't appear on any Billboard rankings, but following the announcement of his health condition, several of his projects have experienced a resurgence, and they bring him back to the most important albums tally in the United States. Leading the comeback is The Hits, a compilation of Joel's most beloved tunes. The appropriately-titled release returns to the Billboard 200 at No. 178. According to Luminate, the collection moved just under 8,900 equivalent album units in the latest tracking frame. Fewer than 10 spots behind The Hits comes one of Joel's classic studio efforts, The Stranger, which reenters the Billboard 200 at No. 187. The project moved 8,700 equivalent units, with nearly 800 of those coming from pure purchases. Streaming activity appears to have largely made up the rest. Between the two, The Stranger stands out as the greater success on the Billboard 200. It originally peaked at No. 2 and has now spent 139 frames on the list. The album ranks as Joel's second-longest-charting title, behind only The Essential Billy Joel, which — somewhat surprisingly — does not return to the ranking this time around. The Hits, meanwhile, has spent just over half a year on the Billboard 200 since debuting in 2011. The project narrowly managed to become a top 40 success on the competitive list, as it once peaked at No. 34.

Sir Rod Stewart cancels gig hours before he's due on stage due to illness

The Maggie May singer said he isn't feeling well. Sir Rod Stewart has had to cancel his performance tonight just hours before he's set to take to the stage. The 80-year-old singer was due to be gigging at the The Colosseum at Caesars Place but has had to cancel due to being ill. Announcing the news on Instagram, Rod told fans: "I am sorry to inform you that I'm not feeling well and my show tonight at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace is being rescheduled to June 10. Your tickets will be valid for the new date. Sir Rod." ‌ This is not the first time Sir Rod has had to cancel his Vegas shows as last summer he was forced to cancel a string of tour dates including his milestone 200th Las Vegas residency show. Rod's team said he had to miss the milestone show due to 'recovering from a summer strain of Covid-19. ‌ The Celtic-daft singer was set to bring his The Hits show at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace to a close after performing at the venue across the last 13 years. However, Sir Rod withdrew hours before what was meant to be his last show at the venue, saying he was "desperately sorry". Just last week, Rod made a huge announcement about his Glastonbury performance that he will be joined on stage by his Faces bandmate Ronnie Wood. ‌ The rockstar is filling the coveted legends slot at the Worthy Farm festival, with headliners The 1975, Olivia Rodrigo and Neil Young also set to play over the course of the five-day event. Faces, who are best known for hits including Stay With Me, formed in 1969 following the split of Small Faces. The band was made up of bassist Ronnie Lane, keyboard player Ian McLagan, drummer Kenney Jones, Ronnie Wood on guitar and Sir Rod on lead vocals. When asked if he keeps in contact with The Rolling Stones' members and 'other people in music' whilst starring on That Peter Crouch Podcast, Sir Rod replied: "Not really. Woody (Wood) I do a lot, just recently, because we're going to do Glastonbury together. Elton, sometimes, you know, birthdays, but nowhere near how we used to. ‌ "I think probably because he doesn't drink anymore, and Woody doesn't drink, and I still do. They stay away from me. Bad influence." He also told the podcast: "I've done it (Glastonbury) before. I did it in 2002 but this is on the legend stage. ‌ "I was only supposed to play for an hour and a quarter, but I've asked them 'Please, another 15 minutes' because I play for over two hours every night and it's nothing, but yeah, looking forward to it." Sir Rod's Glastonbury legends slot will kick off at the traditional teatime on Sunday June 29, although the exact time is not confirmed until the complete timetable is officially announced by organiser Emily Eavis,. ‌ While the headliners and the majority of performers for this year's festival have now been confirmed, many fans have been left wondering who the secret set might be after Kasabian's memorable appearance last year. Speculated contenders are Mumford & Sons, Green Day, Sam Fender, The Cure and US rockers HAIM, but it's anyone's guess at this stage. Faces released four studio albums and toured regularly up until the band split in 1975 and Sir Rod went on to pursue his successful solo career. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Rod Stewart, 80, cancels gig over ill health after making Glastonbury promise

Sir Rod Stewart has pulled out of his gig tonight hours before he's due on stage. The 80-year-old rocker was due to play The Colosseum at Caesars Place but has had to cancel due to ill health. Taking to Instagram, Rod said: "I am sorry to inform you that I'm not feeling well and my show tonight at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace is being rescheduled to June 10. Your tickets will be valid for the new date. Sir Rod." Last summer, Sir Rod was forced to cancel a string of tour dates including his milestone 200th Las Vegas residency show as he made a sad health admission. Rod's team said they 'regretted to announce' that Rod would have to bow out as he is still 'recovering from a summer strain of Covid-19. T he singer was set to bring his The Hits show at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace to a close after performing at the venue across the last 13 years. However, Sir Rod withdrew hours before what was meant to be his last show at the venue, saying he was "desperately sorry". He added: "Most people can work with strep throat but obviously not me. I'm absolutely gutted. I've been looking forward to this concert for so long. My deepest regrets for any inconvenience this has caused. Thankfully we'll now be returning in 2025 and I hope to see you all there," he vowed. According to the NHS, a strep infection can mean patients having a sore throat, a rash, nausea and vomiting and muscle aches. It is often not a serious illness and can be treated with antibiotics. The star's latest health blow comes after he said he was in the prime of his performing career and couldn't see himself retiring in a brand new interview. Sir Rod also confirmed he will reunite with his former Faces bandmate Ronnie Wood for his set at Glastonbury Festival. The 80-year-old musician is filling the coveted tea-time legends slot at the music event, which is being headlined by British pop/rock band The 1975, folk rock star Neil Young and US pop singer Olivia Rodrigo. Faces, who were known for hits including Stay With Me, formed in 1969 following the split of Small Faces. Bassist Ronnie Lane, keyboard player Ian McLagan and Kenney Jones were joined by Wood on guitar and Sir Rod on lead vocals. Asked if he keeps in touch with The Rolling Stones' members and 'other people in music' while on That Peter Crouch Podcast, Sir Rod said: 'Not really. Woody (Wood) I do a lot, just recently, because we're going to do Glastonbury together. 'Elton, sometimes, you know, birthdays, but nowhere near how we used to, I think probably because he doesn't drink anymore, and Woody doesn't drink, and I still do. They stay away from me. Bad influence.' He also told the podcast: 'I've done it (Glastonbury) before. I did it in 2002 but this is on the legend stage. 'I was only supposed to play for an hour and a quarter, but I've asked them 'Please, another 15 minutes' because I play for over two hours every night and it's nothing, but yeah, looking forward to it.' Faces released four studio albums and toured regularly until 1975, when the band split up and Sir Rod went on to pursue a solo recording career. Earlier in the week the veteran rockstar was presented with a prestigious lifetime achievement award by five of his children at the American Music Awards (AMAs). His best known solo songs include Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?, Every Beat Of My Heart, and Maggie May. In 2024, he promised he would not retire but confirmed his 2025 European and North American shows would bring an end to his 'large-scale world tours', with his next slate to be held at more intimate venues. His latest album, a collaboration with Jools Holland, was released in February 2024 and went to number one on the UK chart.

My Perfect Solo Saturday

I love socializing as much as the average bear — at least, a bear that goes out to dinner almost five nights a week — but there's nothing I find as soul-filling as a solo day on the town. You know when you're on vacation and you're so excited to write the itinerary, bop between exciting new restaurants and marvel at things along the way? That's what an afternoon alone in New York can feel like, if you let it. So behold, one of my many dream-solo-day itineraries. One of the many great joys of being a party of one: You can get in virtually anywhere. Especially at a restaurant with some bar seats, like Baby Blues Luncheonette in East Williamsburg, where they're likely to have room for little old you, even on days when the brunch wait list closes by noon. True to its name, the restaurant is swaddled in baby blue, including the tables, chairs, booths and a metal shelving unit housing an impressive, nostalgia-inducing VHS collection. Now, this is your day, so follow your heart. But if you want my recommendation, it's The Hits plate ($34), which is labeled 'to share' on the menu but is perfect for just me. Grilled halloumi, marinated feta, a soft boiled egg and smoked salmon are surrounded by pickled banana peppers, olives and a bunch of other vegetables. With a side of pita bread, you can sit there and build perfect bite after perfect bite, not worrying about sharing a thing. One unmissable order, though, is their Greek frappe ($6), strong and cinnamon-y and just on the brink of overflowing with milky foam. 97 Montrose Avenue (Leonard Street) Want all of The Times?
