Wynonna Judd says touring immediately after her mom Naomi's suicide helped with her grief

Wynonna Judd says touring right after her mom Naomi's tragic death helped her cope with her grief. The 60-year-old country musician rose to fame in the 1980s alongside her mother in their mother-daughter country music duo, The Judds, and after she took her own life in April 2022, at the age of 76, Wynonna decided to still complete 'The Judds: The Final Tour', because she didn't want to be "defined" by her death, or let their fans down. Appearing on 'Talking in Circles' with Clint Black to promote her 'Wynonna Judd: The Greatest Hits Tour', she explained: "Here's the deal, y'all. We have to celebrate the past because it's where we come from but not be defined by it. "So I'm trying to go back and stop the car, read the map and see where I'm going because I'm making a record right now. But I'm also living in the past, I'm in the present, and singing in the future." Ultimately, Wynonna came away feeling "better, not bitter" after finishing the jaunt. She continued: "I got through it. I'm better, not bitter, for all the c*** that's happened to me. That's the key. "I think you have to get to a place in your life where you realise you're not a victim. And all this c*** has happened to me with mom committing suicide last year I had a choice to make. "I could either let that define me or give me permission to show everybody and myself that I could do it even in spite of the hellish time period that I went through, that I could still sing. And so I went on tour because those fans bought the tickets and they were there for me." Wynonna insisted there was no way she was going to "stay home and complain". Wynonna - who had a fraught relationship with her late mother - predicted that the tour would "heal" her. She told PEOPLE at the time: "This is my opportunity to step into a situation that I don't know that I am ready to do what I'm about to do, but I think it's going to heal me. "Am I going to go home and just get depressed and down, and stay stuck in that? "I signed on for this tour because it's like, 'I gotta do something.'"

Ashley Judd Recalls Final Moment With Late Mom Naomi

During Lifetime's two-night docuseries The Judd Family: Truth Be Told, reflected on her final moment with her mom, Naomi Judd. Naomi, born Diana Ellen Judd, died by suicide on April 30, 2022, at the age of 76. Naomi and her eldest daughter, Wynonna Judd, were scheduled to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame as The Judds on April 30, so Ashley traveled to her mother's farmhouse in Leiper's Fork, Tennessee, a couple of days earlier to help her prepare for the honor. 'On the evening of the 28th, [Mom] went to sleep and I went to sleep. When I woke up, I had a text from Mom that just said, 'Please help.' When I got there, Mom was very uncomfortable in her body, pacing around the kitchen and expressing that she didn't want to be here anymore,' Ashley recalled. 'I put my hand on her leg and she patted me and she slowly softened and came back to herself and calmed down and shared a couple of things that I would say are private, between us, about why she chose to continue to live,' the Double Jeopardy actress added. Ashley then explained that her mother went upstairs. 'When I rounded the corner, I entered her bedroom, and I saw that she had harmed herself,' Ashley detailed. 'And then I spent the next whatever it was—half hour—just holding my mother and talking to her, and the first thing I said to her was, 'It's OK, I've seen how much you've been suffering,'' she continued. 'When she died, my most earnest wish was to make sure that she was relieved and absolved of her guilt and shame.' Ashley concluded that she was ultimately grateful she got to be there for Naomi. 'It was like this final consummation of the love in the relationship that we had transformed,' she said. 'What an honor, to be born into this human life, to be chosen by her. I got to hold space, I got to bookend. And I'm just so glad I was there.' Country singer's husband reveals she once shot at him after discovering affair

The widow of country music singer Naomi Judd has confirmed she once shot a gun at him after finding out he'd cheated. Judd was best known for being part of the duo The Judds with her daughter Wynonna. After forming in 1980, they went on to win five Grammy Awards and nine Country Music Association awards however stopped performing in 1991 after Naomi was diagnosed with hepatitis. In 2022, the day before The Judds were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, she died by suicide. A few years on her widower Larry Strickland – whom she married in 1989 – has spoken about their at-times tumultuous relationship. This week a new documentary titled The Judd Family: Truth Be Told has been airing on the United States. Recalling their first meeting, Strickland said it was 'almost love at first sight' however Judd once said that while they were 'wildly, madly, passionately in love', he was never home. In her 2016 memoir, River of Time: My Descent into Depression and How I Emerged With Hope, Judd detailed how she once received a phone call from a woman who said she 'loved and missed' Strickland. Realising her husband had been unfaithful, Judd cut up all of her photos of him and threw his belongings into their garden in trash bags. 'Oh, it was hell. I heard everything,' her daughter Ashley Judd recalled in the series. 'I heard Mum's phone calls to him on the road, I heard them fight, I heard them not fight, I heard it all. In 1995, Judd produced a TV movie about her life called Naomi & Wynonna: Love Can Build a Bridge, which included a scene where she shot at her husband after accusing him of infidelity. After being asked about the incident in the new documentary, Strickland added: 'Well, it really happened, that's all I can say,' Strickland said in episode 2 after watching the clip. 'That's all I wanna say. It happened.' Despite their marriage troubles, the couple stayed together until her death. Speaking about Judd taking her own life, Strickland said she was struggling behind the scenes. 'There was a couch, and in the latter days, she laid on that couch. She just couldn't get off of that couch,' he recalled. 'Toward the end, the last year of her life, it was just about every night she would be in a panic mode.' When announcing Judd's death in April 2022, her daughters shared that she had died 'to the disease of mental illness'. 'Today we sisters experienced a tragedy. We lost our beautiful mother to the disease of mental illness. We are shattered,' the statement read.
