Canceled MSNBC Host Katie Phang Reveals Her Next Move

Katie Phang has officially announced her next venture after her eponymous MSNBC show was canned earlier this year. The journalist has launched a YouTube channel in partnership with MeidasTouch, the left-leaning media network said in a press release Wednesday. 'YouTube is the perfect place for Katie Unleashed,' Phang, an attorney and legal analyst, posted on X. 'We'll talk about the law, politics, and culture. You'll hear from trusted, familiar voices. And you'll hear from new voices with fresh takes.' 'It's time we realize WE are the cavalry we've been waiting for,' she added." MeidasTouch, which bills itself as 'the nation's top independent pro-democracy media network,' called Phang a 'respected voice in both law and media' and celebrated their new collaboration. 'This partnership marks an exciting new chapter for both Phang and MeidasTouch as they expand their efforts to build a powerhouse platform for independent, hard-hitting journalism and analysis—at a time when it is needed more than ever," it said in its news release. The group's YouTube channel has 4.84 million subscribers. Phang's new channel, which made its first post on Tuesday, has nearly 90,000. In her first video, Phang was joined by MediasTouch co-founder Ben Meiselas. 'When it came time for me to get out of mainstream media and find my way into the holy land of independent journalism, I could not think of a better place to be than [with] the guys at MeidasTouch,' she said before kicking off her analysis. Phang has also launched a Substack account, and shares commentary and interviews on the subscription-based newsletter platform. She's also continuing on as a legal commentator at MSNBC. The commentator teased her next move on the final episode of MSNBC's The Katie Phang Show late last month, telling viewers she intended to 'meet you where you are at places like Substack and YouTube with fellow truth tellers like MeidasTouch.' In February, she revealed she had been 'stunned' to learn her show was being canceled as part of MSNBC's major shake-up of its lineup. 'I was proud to platform more AAPI voices than any other cable show ever,' she said at the time. 'And I was, and remain, proud to have been one of the only AAPI hosts with her name on a show. Representation matters.' The network axed an array of shows, including those hosted by Joy Reid and Alex Wagner, in February, giving more airtime to figures like former White House press secretary Jen Psaki and Democratic strategist Symone Sanders-Townsend. MSNBC's ratings nosedived after the presidential election, but saw a significant rebound in the new year. Following a November announcement, the network is in the process of being spun off from NBCUniversal and Comcast into a new entity called Versant Media.

Maddow Rips Trump as Too ‘Incompetent' to Be Full-Blown Dictator

MSNBC's Rachel Maddow slammed President Donald Trump as a would-be dictator who can't even get authoritarianism right on Saturday. 'I do think we're in the middle of an attempted authoritarian overthrow of American democracy,' Madow said on The Katie Phang Show, further eviscerating the Republican leader for being too 'incompetent' for more than a 'botched' attempt at an 'authoritarian overthrow.' 'I mean, I think everybody who predicted that was right, but I don't think he's any better at it,' she said. Saying she expected Trump to be 'more efficient' and 'better at doing what he wanted to do,' Maddow said she doesn't think 'that's the way it's worked out.' She then reeled off a 'litany of mistakes' the Republican administration has made in the months since Trump took office. These include the White House's notorious flip-flops on freezes to federal grants and funding for Ebola prevention. Both moves were put out in official memos, which were promptly rescinded, before in turn being reinstated at the direction of Elon Musk's chaotic DOGE cost-cutting drive. While staggered by the perceived level of generalized inefficacy, Maddow nevertheless went on to insist the overall carnage still represents a very real and present danger to the future of democracy. 'They've done a lot of it despite themselves and their incompetence is not a blessing,' she said. 'A lot of people glibly say like, 'Oh, you should have enemies that are this incompetent, they'll fall down, you don't have to trip them.' But their failure [has] created [a] wreckage in the U.S. government.'

TV host bursts into tears and says heartbreaking goodbye to guest in shock announcement

US news anchor Katie Phang couldn't hold back her tears live on-air as she bid an emotional farewell to one of her guests . While wrapping up the penultimate episode of her MSNBC show, Phang engaged in a political chat with Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, the Democratic US representative for Texas 's 30th congressional district. As the interview neared its end, Phang was overcome with emotion on-air . "This is the second-to-last episode of the show. Congresswoman , I wanted to thank you for always getting up early and delivering it, but I also want to say thank you for your continuing support for democracy. It's definitely something that you have made your brand, and it's integrity that you're bringing and I'm grateful for you, always," she said. Crockett was the first to shed tears, barely whispering: "We'll miss you." You're gonna have me crying at the beginning of a show! Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, you haven't seen the last of me. Thank you for being here and getting us started today. I always appreciate you." Katie and Jasmine both broke down in recent MSNBC airing (Image: (Image: MSNBC)) Phang's departure comes as part of a network overhaul by President Rebecca Kutler, leading to the cancellation of The Katie Phang Show. Reflecting on the unexpected decision, Katie remarked, "I was proud to platform more AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) voices than any other cable show ever. And I was, and remain, proud to have been one of the only AAPI hosts with her name on a show. Representation matters." Despite facing the end of her show, she's set to stay within the network family. However, the axe didn't stop there, as Joy Reid and Jonathan Capehart also faced the music – Reid got the boot altogether, whereas Capehart will be sticking around without his show. Ayman Mohyeldin and Alex Wagner said goodbye to their shows, too. Katie's heartfelt goodbye on-air moved the audience deeply, prompting one viewer to write, "Love this so much. Jasmine waves goodbye because she's crying too much!" Another voiced support: "No idea what the hell is going on at @MSNBC. Katie Phang is a great show host. A great legal mind who is able to distill complicated subjects. And she has a heart." For the latest local news and features on Irish America, visit our homepage here .

Jasmine Crocket Slams ‘Cruelty' of White House's Viral Deported Dad Meme

Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett struggled to pick her jaw up off the floor after the White House openly mocked a Maryland dad the administration has wrongfully deported. 'Who are we, where are we living, and who is running this country?' Crockett said during a Saturday appearance on MSNBC's The Katie Phang Show. On Friday, the official White House X account posted a photoshopped image of a New York Times story and edited the headline to say that Kilmar Abrego Garcia—who the Trump administration itself admitted was deported because of an 'administrative error'—was 'an MS-13 illegal alien' who is 'never coming back.' 'One of my colleagues actually put this post up in a group chat, and I was, like, 'Okay, this isn't real, right?'' Crockett said. 'Because [of] the level of childishness we saw in this post but also just the level of cruelty and the level of admission that we've seen.' Last month, the Trump administration mistakenly deported Abrego Garcia, who is currently being held in an El Salvadoran megaprison. The Supreme Court has ordered the government to 'facilitate' his return, but Trump officials continue to falsely claim that the El Salvadoran national is a member of the notorious MS-13 street gang. 'This [post] will most likely show up in a contempt hearing,' Crocket speculated on Saturday, further wondering who on the White House press team might have thought sharing the meme was a good idea or, at this stage, even 'if they really do care.'

Transgender activist claims 'science is on our side' while pushing Democrats to fight back on the issue

A transgender rights activist is urging the Democratic Party to continue the fight over trans issues, claiming "science" supports their side. "It's very easy to fight back on trans issues," activist Charlotte Clymer said on Saturday during MSNBC's "The Katie Phang Show." "The science is on our side," Clymer added. "Every credible medical organization has come out and endorsed gender-affirming care and said that the trans military ban is ridiculous and unnecessary… But the more we don't fight back, the more Republicans are going to engage in bad faith and run up a score on Democrats." Top Us Hospital Hit With Scathing Ad Campaign Over 'Extreme Woke' Agenda: 'Politics Over Patients' Recent studies, however, point to troubling statistics for those who have undergone a sex change operation. A study published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine found the rates of depression, anxiety, substance-use disorders and tendency to suicide were "significantly higher" among those who had a sex change surgery, assessed two years later. According to the study, men who had sex-change surgery had depression rates of 25% as opposed to males who did not have surgery (11.5%), and anxiety rates among that group were 12.8% compared to 2.6%. Women who had sex change surgery had depression rates of 22.9% compared to 14.6% in the non-surgical group. The transgender activist is concerned that more Democrats are not being more outspoken on the issue. Voters Widely Oppose Taxpayer-funded Gender Surgeries, Revealing Democrat Party's Vulnerability: Poll "I'm not seeing a lot of fight from Democratic leadership in Congress, and that is a huge mistake," Clymer said. "The problem with this thinking is that we have an open goal. No one's defending it. Why wouldn't Republicans keep kicking at that goal?" The contrast, the activist added, is with Republicans, who have made the issue a defining part of their platform. "Only one party is really talking about trans issues. It's the Republican Party," Clymer said. "They've made trans issues one of their central topics in campaigning and the national discourse." Fang, who interviewed Clymer, said Republicans "fearmonger" on the issue. "They love to fearmonger. That's their currency," Phang said. "It galvanizes people to vote based on fear, not on facts. I always like to say, don't vote on feelings, vote on facts." Clymer said if Democrats don't get better with their messaging, it could cost them. "The more the Democrats ignore this, the more it's going to come back to haunt us in future elections," Clymer article source: Transgender activist claims 'science is on our side' while pushing Democrats to fight back on the issue
