Kendrea Linton has won prizes in The Lamp game several times before, but this time was different — she scored a jackpot worth $443,343, the Virginia Lottery said in a May 22 news release. 'I saw it and said, 'Oh my gosh, I really did win!'' Linton told lottery officials. She said she plans to put her winnings toward her retirement, according to lottery officials. The odds of winning per game are 1 in 3.55, and the odds of winning the jackpot vary by price point, lottery officials said. The game costs between 50 cents and $30 per play, according to the game's web page. The estimated jackpot as of May 23 is more than $160,000.

Brian Cullen, from Virginia Beach, won a jackpot prize worth $541,440 while playing The Lamp game, the Virginia Lottery said in a March 25 news release. 'It really feels good,' Cullen told the lottery. Cullen said he hopes to retire soon, so the winnings will assist with his plan, according to lottery officials. The odds of winning a prize in The Lamp game are 1 in 3.55, and the odds of winning the jackpot 'vary by price point,' according to the game's web page. Tickets cost between 50 cents and $30. As of March 25, the estimated progressive jackpot for The Lamp game is more than $81,400.

March 19 (UPI) -- A North Carolina man won a $150,000 lottery prize thanks to some advice from his mother and a healthy serving of beginner's luck. Rock Hill resident Savion Lytle told North Carolina Education Lottery officials he had never bought a lottery ticket before he listened to his mother's advice. "My mom was actually the one who got me into it," he said. Lytle placed a $30 bet on the digital instant game The Lamp while in Raleigh for work, and scored the $150,000 prize on his first attempt. "It was my first time playing any lottery game," he said. He said some of his winnings will go toward paying for trade school, where he hopes to learn welding. "This is a blessing," Lytle said.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Four Hampton Roads lottery players won big in the past couple months. The three winners come from Virginia Beach, James City County, Smithfield and Cape Charles. A Cape Charles man won the top prize for the Virginia Lottery's Cash 5 with EZ Match game, winning $250,000. The retiree told Lottery officials he had no immediate plans for his winnings. Cash 5 with EZ Match features a rolling jackpot starting at a minimum of $200,000. The odds of matching all five numbers to win the jackpot are 1 in 1,221,759. The highest winnings in the region came from a Virginia Beach man who decided to play the Virginia Lottery's The Lamp online game on his mobile phone, leading to a win of $623,371. On Christmas Day, James City County man 'cried tears of joy' when he realized he'd just won a jackpot worth $431,457 in the Virginia Lottery's Castle of Crystals online game. A retired Navy officer won $100,000 in Smithfield on New Year's Day. Bellew, a retired U.S. Navy officer, said there may be a new car in his future.
