12 Celebs Who Missed The Mark On This Year's Met Gala Theme
Arguably, the theme of the 2025 Met Gala — Tailored For You — is one of the easiest in recent memory to claim you attempted. After all, just showing up in a black suit would technically fit the bill. It might be dull, but such is life. But of course, there is much more to the theme than a Boring Black Suit™. The museum's Costume Institute's exhibit this year is Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, so looks should ideally further celebrate Black excellence in fashion and the style of Black dandyism. Some people rose to the challenge remarkably, such as Teyana Taylor, Zendaya, and Rihanna. Others, presumably, saw the theme as more optional. A quick note! Just because a look is not on theme does not mean it doesn't look good (editor, you are welcome for the triple negative). Conversely, a look that is on theme can still look more like an outfit to wear to the Deloitte Christmas party than the Met Gala. But, without further ado, here are some celebs who went off-theme this year: 1. Sydney Sweeney Michael Buckner / Penske Media via Getty Images Sydney's Miu Miu dress is an homage to Kim Novak, specifically a gown she wore in the 1967 movie The Legend of Lylah Clare. Sydney is playing Kim in a movie directed by Gala co-chair Colman Domingo, so the link to the theme is tenuous at best. 2. Maya Hawke The look is custom Prada. Not super sure what the intent was here. 3. Sadie Sink TheStewartofNY / GC Images Admittedly, I've flip-flopped on whether or not this Prada bodice really evokes good tailoring. 4. Diana Ross TheStewartofNY / GC Images The icon decided to attend the gala last-minute and wore a garment embroidered with the names of all her children and grandchildren. A jaw-dropping moment! But oh no, it's me, the theme police. 5. Sha'Carri Richardson 6. Sofia Richie Grainge TheStewartofNY / GC Images According to Vogue, the Tommy Hilfiger bow is a nod to dandyism...I cannot see it. 7. Georgina Rodríguez I a Vetements slip. 8. Saquon Barkley The Eagles star is on this list because of how ill-fitting his suit is. Sorry. 9. Shakira 10. Natasha Lyonne Obviously, anyone named Natasha is gorgeous and stunning. Not sure I'm seeing tailoring though... 11. Vera Wang TheStewartofNY / GC Images Can you guess who she wore? 12. Finally, Heidi Klum James Devaney / GC Images

Met Gala 2025: Sydney Sweeney stuns in Kim Novak-inspired look
Sydney Sweeney honored Hollywood actress Kim Novak on the Met Gala carpet Monday night. The "Euphoria" and "Anyone But You" star stunned in a black beaded gown by Miu Miu Sweeney's dress, which was similar to one Novak wore in the 1968 film "The Legend of Lylah Clare," had fringe tassels on the sleeves and a peekaboo neckline accented with a gold brooch. Both dresses feature similar necklines and figure-hugging silhouettes. Sweeney shared a black-and-white photo of Novak in the gown on her Instagram story ahead of the Met Gala. This year's Met Gala marked Sweeney's fourth time attending the event. She said on the carpet that it's her third time attending the event with Miu Miu. "This is actually paying homage to Kim Novak, and I'm doing a movie with Colman Domingo, so we wanted to really just bring that to life," she said, speaking with Vogue. Sweeney and Domingo are currently working together on the film "Scandalous," which follows the real-life short-lived relationship between Novak and singer and actor Sammy Davis Jr. Sweeney is slated to portray Novak in the upcoming project, which will mark Domingo's directorial debut. Novak's dress was also featured in the 1937 film, "The Bride Wore Red." Actress Joan Crawford wore a red version gown in that film.
