This story discusses suicide. If you or someone you know is having thoughts of suicide, please contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline by dialing 988. Aubrey Plaza was concerned about her husband, Jeff Baena, months before his death, according to a report. Plaza and Baena had been separated since September 2024 when, a month later, Baena made "concerning remarks" to Plaza that prompted the actress to "call a friend to perform a welfare check on her husband," according to a report by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner, which was obtained by People. After the welfare check, Baena began going to therapy. According to the outlet, Baena explained that he was experiencing "recent marital difficulties" with Plaza. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed authorities responded to a call near Baena's residence on Jan. 3. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, the LAPD told Fox News Digital at the time. His cause of death was ruled a suicide. "The family is devastated and asks for privacy at this difficult time." Plaza last communicated with her husband via text on the day of his death at 10:36 a.m. ET, according to People. On Jan. 6, Baena's representative directed Fox News Digital to a statement originally shared with Deadline. "The family is devastated and asks for privacy at this difficult time," the statement read. Baena and Plaza were private about their relationship after meeting in 2011. It is unclear when the two wed, but Plaza confirmed the couple's marriage status in 2021 with an Instagram post. Plaza has deactivated her Instagram page following Baena's death. Plaza did not attend the Golden Globes days after Baena's death, although she had previously been announced as a presenter. Baena was born and raised in Miami. He attended film school at New York University and later began his career in Los Angeles. Baena made his directorial debut with "Life After Beth," which starred Plaza, in 2014. He was also known for films such as "The Little Hours," "Horse Girl" and "Joshy."

Aubrey Plaza's husband Jeff Baena texted her on day of his death

Actress Aubrey Plaza became concerned about her estranged husband's welfare months before his death, a medical examiner has said. Director Jeff Baena died aged 47 in January, with the Los Angeles County medical examiner concluding he took his own life. He worked with Parks And Recreation star Plaza, 40, on the 2014 horror film Life After Beth and 2017 historical comedy The Little Hours. Plaza separated from Baena in September 2024, the report by Philip Kim, Los Angeles County Coroner Investigator, says. 'In October 2024, Baena made concerning remarks which prompted her to call a friend to perform a welfare check on her husband,' the report says. 'Baena had been attending therapy since that event. According to (an unnamed person) Baena did not have any previous suicide attempts. He had a history of difficulty sleeping.' The examiner said Plaza 'last knew her husband to be alive when he sent her a text message' on the morning of January 3, the date of his death. The director and screenwriter was found by a dog walker at a home close to the Fern Dell Nature Trail near the Hollywood Hills, with the cause of his death determined as hanging. Another person, unnamed in the report, said that Plaza moved to New York following their separation. Plaza previously issued a statement along with his family, calling it an 'unimaginable tragedy', and saying they were 'deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support'. She had been in a relationship with him since around 2011 and they married a decade later, with Plaza telling The Ellen DeGeneres Show in December 2021 that they made the decision to tie the knot after getting 'a little bored one night' during the Covid pandemic. Plaza was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2023 for her role in the second series of HBO dark comedy White Lotus and is also known for Disney+ series Agatha All Along. She has also starred in Hollywood films including Megalopolis, My Old Ass, Ingrid Goes West, Dirty Grandpa and Emily The Criminal. Baena wrote 2020 thriller Horse Girl, starring Alison Brie, and 2022 dark comedy Spin Me Round, both of which he also directed, as well as 2004 comedy I Heart Huckabees starring Jude Law, Jason Schwartzman, Dustin Hoffman and Mark Wahlberg. He also created the anthology comedy series Cinema Toast, which had an episode directed by Plaza and another starring Community actress Brie. Last month, Plaza appeared on the 50th anniversary celebration of Saturday Night Live (SNL), introducing musical guests Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard, who performed a cover of late Irish singer Sinead O'Connor's Nothing Compares 2 U.

See Real-Life Couple Alison Brie and Dave Franco Go to Some Very Dark Places in Disturbing 'Together 'Trailer

Dave Franco and Alison Brie's (onscreen) relationship is undoubtedly put to the test in Together. Neon released a teaser trailer for the upcoming Michael Shanks-written and directed horror flick on Wednesday, March 19, which opens with a blissfully in-love Millie (Brie, 42) being carried by her husband Tim (Franco, 39) into their cozy-looking new home under a canopy of trees. The trailer soon shows just how those supernatural entities unfold, beginning with a sighting of two dogs in the forest that stand still in their tracks, as if frozen in time. Tim is next shown looking into a bathroom mirror, pulling a seemingly never-ending black string from inside his mouth, before Millie, who is presumably a teacher, peers down at a drawing done by one of her students: two fire-tailed dogs that appear conjoined at their heads, foaming at the mouth.
