Fire crews 'use axes and saws' after blaze breaks out at Edinburgh restaurant
An eyewitness reported seeing firefighters attempting to 'break down a wall' at the premises. Fire crews have been spotted using "axes and saws" to "break down a wall" as they tackled a blaze at a premises in Edinburgh. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service first received reports of the incident on Duke Street, in the Leith area, at around 4pm on Saturday, May 24. Police are also on scene, with the street cordoned off to the public. It is understood the fire started in the basement of a Chinese restaurant. "They're using axes and saws to break down a wall, because there's fire coming from the basement in The Lucky Buddha." A picture taken from behind the cordon shows several fire engines in the road, with around eight firefighters gathered around the entrance to the restaurant. Smoke still appears to be billowing out from its front door as hoses can be seen snaking inside. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were in attendance at the scene. It comes a week after an unrelated incident in a car park at Edinburgh Airport, which saw a car burst into flames. Fire crews were called at around 1.40pm on Saturday, May 17. Images shared online showed smoke rising into the sky with plumes visible from a considerable distance. An update issued later by the airport stated the vehicle fire had been extinguished by their on-site fire service and investigation had been launched to establish the nature of the fire.

Edinburgh fire crews raced to a blaze on Saturday afternoon. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the fire at around 4pm. At least four appliances and 10 firefighters were dispatched to Duke Street in Leith, with locals seeing them use 'axes and saws to break down a wall'. Police Scotland were also on the scene and had taped off the street. It's understood that the flames were coming from the basement of a Chinese restaurant.
