The crowd erupted in cheers as Tresind Studio was named a three-star winner at the Michelin Guide's fourth Dubai ceremony, along with another Dubai restaurant – FZN by Bjorn Frantzen. It also marks the first time restaurants in the United Arab Emirates received the top Michelin rating. "Today I realised what is the word called 'only' and how heavy it is when we are awarded (the three stars) as the only Indian restaurant," said Bhupender Nath, founder of Tresind Studio. Chef Himanshu Saini, 38, said he felt "proud" that the fine-dining restaurant had made history. "I hope this motivates all the younger upcoming chefs," he said, adding "it's a dream which is possible". "I think it's a great time for Indian food". Michelin guide international director Gwendal Poullennec called the chef a "pioneer" who had paved "the way for many more talents to join the industry in India". 'Culinary history' On its website, the restaurant said it aimed to challenge common perceptions of Indian cuisine "by showcasing flavours both new and familiar through a creative lens". The eatery with just 20 seats and an open kitchen located on the Palm, Dubai's famous man-made island, said it favours ingredients locally sourced from organic and sustainable farmers in the UAE. "Tresind Studio in Dubai has just made culinary history, becoming the first-ever Indian restaurant to earn Three MICHELIN Stars," the Michelin Guide said on its website. "While The MICHELIN Guide is not in India, the global spotlight is brighter than ever. Indian chefs in cities from London to Dubai have been rewriting the playbook, fusing time-honoured flavours with boundary-pushing techniques," it added. In 2022, 11 Dubai restaurants were awarded the first Michelin stars in the Middle East as dozens of the city's eateries made it into the prestigious gastronomic guide. Created in 1900 by the brothers Andre and Edouard Michelin of tyre company Michelin for motorists, the guide has become a reference for food lovers and has been known to make or break careers. Most UAE residents are foreigners and it is home to around 3.5 million Indian nationals – the largest expatriate community in the Gulf country. saa/aya/dv Michelin

The Michelin Guide is finally coming to Boston this year

Gird your loins, Boston restaurants—the Michelin Guide is coming. Yes, Michelin—the century-old restaurant rating system and guidebook series from, oddly enough, the French tire company of the same name—is officially bringing its brand of culinary discernment to Beantown this year. That means that not only will Boston join fellow newcomer Philadelphia as well as pre-existing cities like New York, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. in the Michelin Guide's Northeast Cities edition, but Boston-area restaurants will also be evaluated by Michelin's anonymous inspectors and could receive Michelin star ratings down the line. (The guide awards up to three Michelin stars for excellence to a select few restaurants across the country—as of 2024, only 146 restaurants worldwide hold the coveted Michelin 3-star rating.) All of the guides' 2025 selections will be announced at a Northeast Cities Michelin Guide Ceremony later this year, however the date and location of the ceremony hasn't been announced yet, per Eater Boston. 'We are thrilled for Boston and Philadelphia to join The MICHELIN Guide Northeast Cities as both are premier destinations for gourmets to experience a rich diversity of cuisine and culinary history,' said Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of The MICHELIN Guide. 'The local passion, talent, and camaraderie in both Boston and Philadelphia are evident in their restaurant communities and the anonymous Inspectors look forward to spotlighting their unique experiences in both cities.' Boston is famously a top-rate culinary hub—from Mediterranean stunners like Bar Vlaha in Brookline and Sarma in Somerville to chic sushi dens like O Ya in the Leather District and Uni in Back Bay—so its inclusion in the Michelin Guide feels not only deserved but vastly overdue. "The Boston restaurant scene has reached new heights, a fact validated by The MICHELIN Guide's entrance into our market,' said Martha J. Sheridan, President & CEO of Meet Boston. 'Long known for distinguished and unparalleled farm-to-table and sea-to-table cuisine, Boston now boasts an expanded portfolio of epicurean excellence, underpinned by our great diversity of offerings and contributions from a global diaspora of culinary creators. We invite all to see and try for themselves how Greater Boston's contemporary culinary culture has evolved." The Boston and Philadelphia additions continue a period of rapid expansion for the Michelin Guide, which has stretched its culinary coverage to Colorado and Atlanta in 2023, Mexico and Texas in 2024, and Québec and the American South earlier this year.

The Michelin Guide explained: "Never before has the city of Cardiff had a Michelin-Star restaurant, making Tom Waters' endeavour not just a brilliant dining experience (which it undoubtedly is), but a pioneer for the city's food scene." A Michelin Guide inspector described the Cardiff restaurant as "undoubtedly one of my favourite openings of the last year". Before adding: "A personal, charmingly run place, it was a pleasure to visit and Tom Waters' food has such a wonderful simplicity to it that often evades less mature and skilful chefs. Gorse has also received high praise from customers, boasting a 4.5 (out of 5) rating on Tripadvisor. One review read: "We had a fabulous night at Gorse, did the 7 course menu and every dish was excellent - a particular favourite was the venison and Celeriac dish.
