City council to review common consumption area in downtown Overland Park

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Overland Park City Council will review a plan to set up a Common Consumption Area (CCA) downtown on Monday. A CCA establishes a broader boundary where alcohol can be bought and consumed. Think of it as a treaty between the city, local businesses and patrons. If all goes well, everyone wins. On Monday, the Overland Park City Council will begin the process of setting up a CCA in the area of 79th and Santa Fe Drive, south to 80th Street and Marty-Overland Park Drive to Valley View Drive and Foster. City leaders must work through the details, such as reviewing street closures, establishing fire and EMS routes and getting input from residents. If established, downtown Overland Park could have a much different vibe this summer. Here are the businesses that would benefit from CCAs: Buffalo State Pizza The Peanut The Other Place Strang Hall The Culinary Center of Kansas City The Table/Engineer Edibles The Brew Lab Mr. Brew's Taphouse Big Dave's Downtown Liquor The Bottle Shop Maloney's Tap Truck Kansas City residents to vote on $474 million KCPS school bond Here are other areas in Johnson County that have CCAs: Prairiefire in South Overland Park Downtown Shawnee Downtown Mission Downtown Olathe Downtown De Soto Lenexa Public Market The Overland Park City Council meeting is at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
