Mum-of-three Gemma Archer, from Swansea, suffered a serious injury on Easter Sunday while roller-skating and required major surgery. However, within 24 hours her life was changed for the better when she won a share of £1m on People's Postcode Lottery. The stunned 44-year-old bagged £90,909 less than 24 hours after undergoing major surgery on her broken wrist and forearm. ‌ Gemma said she was so thrilled by the news that it is the first time in weeks where she hadn't felt any pain. She said: "Yesterday, I was in hospital having an operation and the very next day I've won over £90,000. ‌ "I'm still in shock. I couldn't breathe. It's life-changing. I just really, really wasn't expecting it. It's really strange as it doesn't happen to people like me. "For the first time in two and half weeks there is no pain right now. The adrenaline and everything have just kicked in. I'm in a world of my own." Gemma missed the initial attempts the lottery had made to try to get in contact with her during her hospital stay, before they finally turned up on her doorstep with the massive surprise. Article continues below "It's been a very big 24 hours. I only found out I'd won something at 10am this morning when Postcode Lottery knocked on my door," Gemma said. "A few hours later I got given a huge cheque with some of my neighbours." Never miss a Swansea story by signing up to our newsletter here Gemma was among 11 neighbours sharing the £1m prize. "They're going to have an amazing year now - holidays and whatever they want," she said. Gemma endured the unfortunate accident after her first time roller skating two weeks ago. Her and a friend decided to take it up as a new summer hobby, but it only lasted 10 minutes. "It was a just small fall, but I landed really awkwardly," Gemma explained. ‌ "I did a good job of it. I really broke everything in my lower arm, and I had the operation yesterday to try and fix it all. I got a plate and screws fitted to put it all back together.' But despite the serious injury, it hasn't deterred Gemma from lacing up her skates again. She said: "I have ordered all the protective elbow, wrist and knee padding. I'm going straight back to try again… once I've healed.' It's not the first time Gemma has required surgery after fracturing her elbow while taking a tumble on a night out with friends some years ago. ‌ Now she's quickly hoping to put her winnings to use for a fun holiday. Gemma said: "Me and my best friend are going on holiday together. I'm going home to book one now. I actually missed out on a girl's holiday to Morocco last year, so I might go there. "As long as there's lots of cocktails. All the rounds are on me." Gemma's friends had promised to take her out for the day to take her mind off her injury but now she says she'll be taking them out to kickstart her celebrations. "My original plan was to go on a day out with my friends, they were going to pick me up and distract me from the pain. But I'll take them out for lunch and drinks." Article continues below Gemma added: "I might have a little party with the children tonight and a nice big bottle of champagne." Gemma was among 11 neighbours sharing the lottery's Millionaire Street prize after SA1 6XS in Swansea was announced as the winner on Saturday, May 10. Each ticket was worth £90,909.
