10 Actresses Who Made Powerful Comebacks After Break: From Drew Barrymore to Jennifer Lopez
Hollywood has seen several actresses take a break from the spotlight to focus on their personal lives or rediscover themselves away from the attention. When they return to the showbiz after years to deliver breathtaking performances, audiences cannot stop gushing. In an industry with "out of sight, out of mind" mentality, these actresses have proven that their fandom can wait years to see them grace the silver screen or television again, no matter how long their sabbatical was. Here are 10 actresses who reclaimed their place in the industry and returned to acting after a break! Nicole Richie Comeback Project: Great News Director/Producer: Tracey Wigfield Release Year: 2017 Nicole Richie rose to fame with the reality show, The Simple Life, which also featured Paris Hilton and aired from 2003 to 2007. In 2017, she made a major comeback as Portia Scott-Griffith in the NBC sitcom Great News. She is now married and also has two kids. Richie also launched a successful fashion line, named House of Harlow. Drew Barrymore Comeback Project: The Wedding Singer Director/Producer: Frank Coraci Release Year: 1998 Drew Barrymore had a troubled childhood. After achieving immense fame as a child actor in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) and Firestarter (1984), the actress's life went downhill. She was sent to a rehab center at 13 and again at 14, when she tried to commit suicide by cutting her wrists. Jennifer Lopez Comeback Project: Hustlers Director/Producer: Lorene Scafaria Release Year: 2019 After starring in the 2003 film Gigli with Ben Affleck, JLo didn't bag a major acting role, so she decided to focus on other passions, like singing. However, in 2019, she once again proved her acting prowess in Hustlers, which also starred Constance Wu, Julia Stiles, Lili Reinhart, Keke Palmer, Lizzo, and Cardi B. Since then, she has delivered several groundbreaking performances in films like Marry Me, Shotgun Wedding, The Mother, Atlas, Unstoppable, and Kiss of the Spider Woman. Next, she will feature in Office Romance, directed by Ol Parker, written by Brett Goldstein. Hilary Duff Comeback Project: Younger Director/Producer: Darren Star Release Year: 2015 Disney darling Hilary Duff shot to fame in the early '00s by playing Lizzie McGuire in the titular TV series and movie. She also played pivotal roles in Cheaper by the Dozen and A Cinderella Story. However, post that, she vanished from the screens and only made a few cameos here and there. In 2016, she decided to make a comeback with TV Land's Younger as the main lead, Kelsey Peters. The series' finale aired in June 2021. The role brought her back to the spotlight, and her fans were all praise for her performance. Natasha Lyonne Comeback Project: Orange Is the New Black Director/Producer: Jenji Kohan Release Year: 2013 Natasha Lyonne surprised fans with her acting in the 1999 teen comedy American Pie. She later played the role of Nadia Vulvokov in Russian Doll, further cementing her status in Hollywood. Winona Ryder Comeback Project: Stranger Things Director/Producer: The Duffer Brothers Release Year: 2016 Before getting arrested in 2001 for shoplifting, Winona Ryder played several pivotal roles in films and television shows. When the controversy resulted in an unannounced ban from Hollywood, she took a four-year career hiatus. Picture a chaotic meet-cute involving spilled coffee, a minor argument, and then making out in an Uber. Basically, The Proposal meets a Red Bull ad. Taurus – Classic period drama. Slow burn, candlelit dinners, intense eye contact, and emotional repression. Think Pride & Prejudice , but with better snacks and zero horse-drawn anything. Gemini – Love story with a twist ending. What Movie Couple Had No Chemistry, In Your Opinion?
Not all movie couples are created equally. Some have undeniable passion and chemistry that jumps off the screen, while others fall a little flat. They are actors, after all, so sometimes it's hard to really sell that spark between characters when the real-life feelings aren't there. Maybe you grew up loving the Harry Potter books and movies, but you couldn't help but feel that Harry and Ginny, as a couple on-screen, had no chemistry whatsoever. Their bond seemed more familial than romantic, and though you wanted to root for them as a pair, you weren't sold on their love story. Perhaps you're not feeling much of a spark between Paul and Chani in the Dune movies. You love Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya as actors, but you're not buying their connection in the films for some reason. Or, perhaps you love rom-coms but have never been able to sit through The Proposal because you don't see an ounce of chemistry between Margaret (Sandra Bullock) and Andrew (Ryan Reynolds), and you find it hard to pull for them. You think they're really stiff when they're supposed to be falling for one another, and it's not your cup of tea.

March 20 is National Proposal Day, so say those 4 little words
National Proposal Day, celebrated annually on March 20th, is a special holiday designed to encourage people to ask: 'Will you marry me?' The idea for this holiday comes from an American, John Michael O'Loughlin, who noticed that many people — while they felt ready for marriage — struggled to find the right moment for a proposal. He chose March 20 for the holiday, the day of the spring equinox, as a symbol of new beginnings and balance in life. If you're considering popping the question, we're not going to give you any imaginative ideas. Sure, we could tell you to go for a scenic hike or a hot air balloon ride or a sunset walk on the beach, but – we both know that the most perfect proposal is going to be the one that comes from your heart. And that you already know what to do. So go do it. And — if you're not ready to propose to anyone, that's fine too! Everyone else can enjoy some of our most favorite proposals of all time. When it comes to cinematic, Miles Teller's 2018 proposal set the bar sky-high — literally. The actor popped the question at a scenic vista in the middle of a luxury safari in Africa. While on a morning outing with his now-wife Keleigh, Miles had their game guide secretly tie a single rose to a nearby tree. Romantic, right? Well, Keleigh saw the flower and assumed it was a memorial for someone who had passed. (Oops.) View this post on Instagram A post shared by @keleighteller But Miles quickly redirected the moment, revealing a handwritten note marking two special dates: the day they first became a couple (May 11, 2013) and the day he planned to change their relationship status forever. 'This is the day you became my girlfriend,' he told her, 'and today is the last day you wake up as my girlfriend.' Cue the collective aww! Best movie proposal: When Sandra Bullock begged Ryan Reynolds in 'The Proposal' Most rom-com proposals are grand and extravagant, heartfelt and sweet … this one was straight-up chaotic and maybe that's why we love it. In The Proposal (2009), Sandra Bullock's character, Margaret, goes from icy-cold boss to mildly desperate wannabe-fiancée in record time when she realizes she needs her assistant, Andrew (played by Ryan Reynolds). The setting? A bustling New York City street. The vibe? A complete mess. In a moment of sheer panic, Margaret literally drops to her knees on the sidewalk and rambles a proposal. Pedestrians gawk, Andrew is bewildered, and Margaret — normally composed and in control — looks like she's seconds away from passing out from embarrassment. It's unexpectedly sweet… and who wouldn't kneel on dirty city pavement to propose to Ryan Reynolds? Best viral proposal: When a Utah Jazz cheerleader didn't know the moves You have probably seen this beautiful plot twist of a proposal remixed a million times on social media — the classics are classics for a reason. In 2021, Utah Jazz dancer Danielle Bush was absorbed in a halftime routine when — without warning — her fellow dancers switched to choreography she didn't know. Confused but committed, Danielle kept going, until she turned around and saw her boyfriend kneeling on the court, ring in hand. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Utah Jazz (@utahjazz) This one never gets old because it's so equally romantic and terrifying — imagine realizing mid-dance that you're the only one who doesn't know the moves? Luckily, Danielle recovered quickly, said yes, and sealed it all with a kiss — proving that even a botched routine can lead to a perfect ending. National Proposal Day is a beautiful reminder to cherish and celebrate the love that enriches our lives, whether by taking the next step in a relationship or simply appreciating the journey together.
