Minneapolis theater spotlights new theatrical work with NEXT Festival this summer
Theater Latté Da is spotlighting fresh theatrical work again this year as part of its 2025 NEXT Festival. Three local and national artists will have new work run through a two-week development workshop that culminates in a pair of public presentations, a continuation of Latté Da's commitment to championing new work and voices in the theater. 'The enthusiasm and insight our audiences bring to the NEXT Festival has a profound impact on the development of new musicals,' Elissa Adams, NEXT Festival producer and Director of New Work at Theater Latté Da, says in a statement. The new works will include "The Homefront" by Malika Oyetimein, Jenny Stafford, and Sam Salmond; "How to Play the Cello (Until You Don't)" by Benjamin Emory Larson; and "Okuni" by Naomi Iizuka and Paul Hodge. It's all part of Theater Latté Da's ongoing commitment to developing new works, which it does through workshops, residencies, commissions, and the NEXT Festival. Here's when audiences can catch the performances: "The Homefront — July 25 and 28 "How to Play the Cello (Until You Don't) — Aug. 1 and 4 "Okuni" — Aug. 8 and 11 The first look at all three musicals will take place at The Ritz Theater in Minneapolis. Three-show passes, priced at $42, are on sale now. Individual tickets will be available for $16 beginning April 15 at noon.
