Raiders' OL Jackson Powers-Johnson Reveals Position He Prefers to Play
While general manager Tom Telesco did not last long with the Las Vegas Raiders, he did provide the franchise with several cornerstone players. Unfortunately, he was attached at the hip with head coach Antonio Pierce, so he was unable to continue building the program in his image. Still, he grabbed three starters in the first three rounds of his only NFL Draft, nabbing Brock Bowers, Jackson Powers-Johnson and DJ Glaze with consecutive picks. All three of these players were key contributors for the Raiders last year and showed hope for a promising future despite winning just four games all season. Las Vegas Raiders OL Jackson Powers-Johnson (58).Kirby Lee-Imagn Images Powers-Johnson missed the early part of the season, but settled into the starting lineup at both guard and center during the 2024 campaign. Many have tried to predict which position he will play this season or what he prefers, but Powers-Johnson set the record straight on a recent episode of "The Rush with Maxx Crosby." Advertisement "Center, easy." Powers-Johnson said. "I want to take that step mentally, as a center, so that any look that presents to us, I can diagnose it and help Geno (Smith) get into that. I think that's so much fun and why I love center so much." New head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Spytek did not address the center position this offseason, so it appears that Powers-Johnson will start once again in the middle of the offensive line. He won the Rimington Trophy in college for the being the nation's best center, and he will attempt to bring that prowess to the Silver and Black once again in 2025. Maxx Crosby Issues Eye-Opening Statement About Malcolm Koonce
The Las Vegas Raiders were expected to have one of the best defensive lines in the NFL last season. Unfortunately, injuries plagued the unit, as edge rusher Malcolm Koonce tore his ACL before the season opener and defensive tackle Christian Wilkins broke his foot in the first quarter of the season. Luckily, the Raiders have both of these players under contract for the 2025 season. Under new head coach Pete Carroll and alongside several new additions from general manager John Spytek, this defensive line could finally live up to the lofty expectations that were placed on them before the start of last season. Las Vegas Raiders DE Maxx Crosby (98) and Malcolm Koonce (51).Kirby Lee-Imagn Images Star edge rusher Maxx Crosby recently had Koonce as a guest on his podcast, "The Rush with Maxx Crosby." After the episode was uploaded and fans had reacted to what was said, Crosby made an incredibly strong statement about his teammate. Advertisement "More Is Required," Crosby wrote. "One Of The Best Teammates I've Ever Had, Greatness Incoming For 51. 🦅🖤" Koonce took a bit of time to get going in the NFL, but he made a major leap in his third season. In the last nine games of the 2023 campaign, he recorded 8.0 sacks, which was one of the highest marks in the league during that span. Alongside Crosby and a slew of other great talents on the defensive line, this defense should surprise some people this year. They'll need to wreak havoc if they want a chance to improve from last year's four-win season. Shedeur Sanders drops subtle hint about possible NFL Draft landing spot
Shedeur Sanders may have dropped a hint as to which team he thinks will select him on Thursday during the first round of the NFL Draft. Sanders, 23, was asked who his top four quarterback-wide receiver duos are of all time. "Tom (Brady) and (Rob Gronkowski), of course, but's (Gronkowski is a) tight end. "I liked Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams, I like Chris Olave and Derek Carr," Sanders said during a recent appearance on "The Rush with Maxx Crosby." "Whoever going to be the quarterback for DK Metcalf and George Pickens, whoever that is," Sanders said as his fourth quarterback-wide receiver duo. Metcalf and Pickens are both wide receivers for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Sanders has been linked to the Steelers in the days and weeks leading up to the NFL Draft as the team does not have a long-term answer at the quarterback position on the roster. Even if the Steelers end up signing free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers, they could still select Sanders with the No. 21 overall pick in the first round as Rodgers would only be a short-term solution. The caveat for the Steelers is Sanders may not fall to them at No. 21. The New York Giants have spent extensive time scouting the Colorado quarterback, and the New Orleans Saints have been tied to Sanders in lieu of the injury news surrounding Derek Carr. The Giants and Saints pick No. 3 and No. 9 overall, respectively, and if the Steelers fear Sanders may be taken before them at No. 21, they would be forced to go in another direction or trade up to secure Sanders. The only two quarterbacks currently on the Steelers roster are Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson. Regardless of how things shake out Thursday night, Sanders is clearly enamored by the idea of landing in Pittsburgh and getting to throw to two top-tier receivers in Pickens and Metcalf. Last season with Colorado, Sanders threw for 4,314 yards and 37 touchdowns with 10 interceptions, helping lead the Buffaloes to a 9-4 record and a bowl game appearance. Sanders' play is a big reason the team improved to 9-4 after going 4-8 the prior season; Colorado was 1-11 the year before the Sanders family came over. Raiders' Maxx Crosby: Aaron Rodgers is going to have big year
March 5 - Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby said quarterback Aaron Rodgers is ready to return with a flourish, and he is hopeful that it comes with the four-time NFL MVP wearing silver and black. The star pass rusher defended Rodgers Tuesday on own podcast, "The Rush with Maxx Crosby." "First year after an Achilles is one of the hardest things to do," Crosby said. "I think with all the doubt, all the negativity around Aaron Rodgers, 'Oh, he needs to retire,' things like that, he's getting cut by the Jets, I think he's going to come back and have a -- I know he's 42 or 41, but I think he's going to have a big year this year, and I hope it's in our town. That would be legendary." The Jets informed Rodgers last month that they are moving on without him. Last season, Rodgers rebounded to start all 17 games but the Jets finished only 5-12. He completed 63.0 percent of his passes for 3,897 yards with 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. "I think this year, fully healthy, full offseason, my prediction is he's going to have a great year," Crosby said. Rodgers spent 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers before moving on to the Jets. The future Pro Football Hall of Fame member ranks in the top 10 in NFL history in many statistical categories. He is first in passer rating (102.6), fifth in career touchdown passes (503), and seventh in both pass completions (5,369) and passing yards (62,952). The Raiders used journeyman Gardner Minshew and second-year quarterback Aidan O'Connell last season. New coach Pete Carroll is expected to seek a veteran signal-caller.
