MSNBC Hosts Clarify Their New Roles as the Network Announces The Weekend Co-Hosts

Over the weekend, MSNBC hosts Jonathan Capehart and Ayman Mohyeldin cleared the air surrounding their positions within the network. The two hosts addressed audiences on their respective programs, acknowledging the network's significant programming changes in the past week and announcing their roles as The Weekend co-hosts. At the end of The Saturday Show, Capeheart said, "I want to share some news about this show and about my next assignment here at MSNBC. I've enjoyed bringing you the Saturday Show and The Sunday Show at 6 p.m. ET for just about over a year now, but come spring, I'll be moving back to mornings to co-host The Weekend on MSNBC from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays." Capeheart informed viewers that current hosts Symone Sanders Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez will be moving to weeknights at 7 p.m. ET, the timeslot that Joy Reid previously occupied. Mohyeldin also used his on-air opportunity on Saturday night to speak on his new assignment, anchoring an evening edition of The Weekend on Saturday and Sunday at 6 p.m. ET. In addition, Mohyeldin acknowledged Reid and other colleagues who lost hosting opportunities at the network and clarified misinformation surrounding the network as a result of programming changes from MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler. "This week, several headlines claim that my show, this show, had been canceled and that I was leaving the network, and that incorrect news created a wave of commentary and criticism about which voices can be heard and which cannot on mainstream cable news, especially when it comes to coverage of the Middle East." Mohyeldin added, "It is important for me that I set that record straight. I'm not leaving the network." He spoke on his commitment to continue important stories in his new role, saying, "One thing that won't change is my promise to you, the viewers, that I won't stop talking about the difficult stories and challenging topics that others don't cover." MSNBC is moving quickly to fill the co-host role of the morning and evening editions of The Weekend. On Monday, the network announced that Eugene Daniels from Politico and the current White House Correspondent Association president will join Capehart in the mornings. In addition, Jackie Alemany from The Washington Post will join the show, MSNBC announced on Tuesday. Alemany was previously a congressional reporter for the Post, and in addition to her cohosting duties, she will also serve as MSNBC's Washington correspondent. Daniels and Alemany's additions to The Weekend were announced on Morning Joe on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.

No, MSNBC's Jonathan Capehart Is Not Leaving After Shakeup

Many viewers are wondering if Jonathan Capehart is leaving MSNBC after the network's recent programming shakeup. The Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and political analyst hosted The Saturday Show and The Sunday Show, where he provided insightful commentary on key issues across America. However, the cancellation of his weekend programs has left fans wondering about his future with the network. So, here's all you need to know about Capehart's next role at MSNBC. Despite speculation, Jonathan Capehart is not leaving MSNBC following the cancellation of The Saturday and The Sunday Show. As part of a broader restructuring, MSNBC made significant programming changes, which saw The Saturday Show and The Sunday Show getting canceled. However, the renowned host will continue to stay on the network, bringing his political prowess to The Weekend Show. The current show's trio, Symone Sanders Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez, will be shifted to host a brand-new news program. They will take up the 7:00 pm ET slot on weekdays, previously occupied by The ReidOut. The programming will air for two hours on Mondays from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. MSNBC is committed to introducing a new set of trios for The Weekend, which will now have two editions: morning and evening. Each slot will be hosted by a different group of anchors. Capehart is set to join The Weekend's morning roster, premiering at 7 a.m. ET. In addition, there will be an increase in live programming by 2 hours on weekends. MSNBC host Ayman Mohyeldin is set to take on The Weekend's evening slot with other unannounced hosts. On the other hand, Ali Velshi, host of Velshi, which runs every weekend, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., will get extended by an hour. (via The Hollywood Reporter) MSNBC's shakeup follows the appointment of Rebecca Kutler, former CNN Senior Vice President, as the network's new president after Rashida Jones' departure. Under her leadership, the network is undergoing significant modifications, with current anchor shakeups being a part of it.
